Distorted World: Rise Of The Black One - Volume 3 Chapter 110 20
“what just happened?”
this question ran through everyone’s mind right now with only a few select individuals who knows
The answer?
(As: The arena. Back in the first practical exams(the one where I kicked Ron’s a**) for newcomers a sort of bubble reality was created to host multiple matches between students at the same time, this bubble reality was like the same one prof.Jonathan used on the all jokers class
Because it’s a very complex technique only those of level 100 or above can use it
But since the arena has a pre-written magic formation for that spell that made our job much easier (author: TL;DR basically the reality marble in fate)
This particular bubble reality in the arena had 4 special rules encoded onto it
1.Equalising: meaning only people in relatively the same level range will be allowed to fight one another (since that Utopia guy was too high leveled he didn’t get transported in like everyone else
2. Only one on one matches: this rule was specifically made for the mandatory opening match when entering the academy between students
3. Infinite magic: since the exam was to test the combat prowess of students running out of magic was impossible during the the course of the match
4. Immortality: since the bubble reality was of a lower spatial dimension then Avalon like how Avalon is to the real world “death” in this reality doesn’t register in Avalon so when a student is fatally injured the match is over and the defeated have to move on to a new match until the judges decide that the student can leave the reality bubble
Me and Elise got the principal to transfer ownership of the spell so that we could tweak a few things, by using Elise’s last piece of magicyte we increased the affected radius of the spell from the confines of the arena to basically whatever we wanted, since we were ridiculously under level to change this on the fly we set the radius to places where we absolutely knew that the cult will be once they invaded (the main campus gates, around the arena, a few places in the outer districts) trapping 100% of their army was impossible since the principal’s Deus ex machina-ess precognition has limited use so we needed to annihilate most of their army before we activated the domed reality, all and all this plan required a lot of organisation and precise approximation so not my greatest plan but time was running out)
(As: now comes the hardest part, or should I say the boldest, a one on one match between me and Utopia…I contemplated asking Regis for help but since I didn’t know the guy (or most other members of our club to be honest) I couldn’t trust him)
“How!? How can this happen? We were waiting so long for this, all the preparations were in place, we even crippled Cornelia’s precognition…they were just a bunch of snot nosed brat how could such a Major oversight missed?”
Utopia stood in the middle of the arena, although his expression couldn’t be read due to the lack of pigmentations and hollow skin you could clearly hear it in his voice, he’s completely losing his shit
“As: well the hardest part of a well conceived plan IS to make sure not a single monkey wrench gets thrown your way”
Asher remarked approaching the robed corpse like men who he assumes is Utopia
“As: greetings, master Utopia Coelum if I’m not mistaken?”
Asher greets the man with a formal bow as if to show respect one elder than him, although his tone of voice is at lacking as always
“Who may you be young man?”
Utopia turned to the young man wearing a simple black set of t shirt and trousers held of by a red belt that looked like it was serrated, although he was greeting the boy courteously the impatience was evident in his demeanour
“As: first year student of Avalon mage’s academy and disciple of prof.Jonathan at your service”
Asher replied
Utopia stood there for a moment although his oppressive aura was still heavily permeating the area the boy stood with an almost impossibly serene expression as if the malicious intent being directed at him were nothing more than a monotonous Daily occurrence in his life
What’s weirder still is that despite being near to someone clearly superior in level to him Utopia can’t sense the boy releasing even a little of his own aura indicating a calm mindset and perfect controls of one’s aura and emotions
“My my, you must be quite adept at magic aren’t you young man? Few people your age can stand before me with such a calm face”
Utopia smirked but this time it was different like he was genuinely praising Asher
“Most people your age would do something like try to sneak attack me or something”
“As: is that so? As smart as that sounds I don’t feel like attacking someone with 10 or more runes carved on their body”
Asher slightly dilated his pupils to clearly transmit his intentions
This gave Utopia even more of a surprise
Runes were permanent effects and buffs/enchantments that could be cast on anything and require little to no magicol to activate and can only be nullified if faced with a more powerful overwriting force or when it’s outlived it’s usefulness to it’s user
This made runes much more useful and practical in combat compared to normal enchantments whose effects are only temporary and can only be cast on humans
Such an advanced technique cannot hope to be understood by Ben some professional mages let alone someone in Asher’s level range
Little did he know with Asher’s facile learning capability and the ever so informative [universal analogy] Asher was already at the level of understanding magic of a high mage both theoretical and practical even if it isn’t completely useful for him at the moment
“Impressive eye you got there son…say, would you be interested in joining the Tricobrial Hydrallisk?”
Seizing the opportunity to get his hands on a once in a Millenia type prodigy, Utopia proposed
“As: ho? You’re not even gonna ask me if I’m responsible for what just happened to your..hm…how do you put it? “Children”?”
Asher was slightly taken aback by the sudden proposal but he posed the obvious question anyway
“They are but a necessary step in my quest for power, you on the other hand have the potential to reach heights I could never dream of and to be frank, you’ve already learned all that you could from this academy haven’t you? If you come with me I could give you access to forbidden techniques only they can dream of”
Utopia extended his hand to Asher
“So how about it?”
“As: my apologies, but that’s impossible”
Asher bowed respectfully declining
“Oh? How so?”
Utopia slightly grunted
“As: I’m currently working for the academy an organisation that I am indebted to in multiple ways and it’s also an organisation with a very deep grudge against the Tricobrial, in order for an agreement to be made between us there we have to be of at least of equal footing but since that is not possible at the moment there is no incentive that you will hold up on your end of the bargain not to mention the total lack of faith both parties have for each other due to the fact that we just met it would defy common sense for me to accept your offer even if I wasn’t working for the academy”
Asher adequately assessed the situation while opting not to provoke Utopia (yet)
“Common sense?…hahahahahaha! I’m surprised the concept of common sense even exist between mages, my apologies I shouldn’t have grouped you up with most magic casters that will jump at the chance for more power”
Utopia laughed amused at the unique individual in front of him
“Then how about a contract then I’ll put my life into it as will you”
A magic formation hovering in mid air approached Asher
“As: master Utopia I would kindly ask that you not insult my intelligence, I’m fully aware that a contract can be rendered null and void with no backlash if the contractor is sufficiently more powerful than the contractee, also no offence but the fact that you’re undead makes putting your life into a magic contract meaningless”
Asher quickly noticed the obvious trap
“Well damn, I must apologise again you really can’t be persuaded, but let me ask you this why do you think that you have to stay here?”
Utopia scratched his head and posed this question, striking a nerve in Asher
“As: what do you mean”
Quickly composing himself Asher said
“You can try to hide it with your youthful appearance but I know, I know more than anyone, those eyes, that apathetic expression, your demeanour everything about you speak of a man who’s been wrongfully robbed of everything he holds dear by the world, you literally have nothing to lose so why stay here? Is it to hold on to that illusion of loyalty? Of course not that thing doesn’t exist in men like us”
“As: are you perhaps saying that we’re the same?”
“Do you deny it?”
“As:………………”
Asher had a moment of silence reflecting on himself
“As: you’re half right…”
“Ho?”
“As: we’re both men that had our hearts blackened by the world…men who were tortured by this world that has tried and failed countless times to break us, but unlike you I don’t intend on giving up on my humanity just yet”
Asher said with utmost resolve
“As: sure it might be meaningless on an objective scale and I would be lying if I said that I didn’t used to think like you that it would have been so much better if I couldn’t feel and just did everything in my own benefit, but if I had to choose between living and fighting for something no matter how small and having no purpose at all than I would probably Choose the former”
“As: I’m tired of wallowing in my own self loathing and misanthropy so once again the answer is no”
(As: no more revenge, no more hatred, a new life requires a new me)
“Is that so?”
“Well too bad I guess I’ll just have to kill you and raise you as an undead”
Utopia readies his staff made of the bones of various animals
Asher replied by readying his own weapon
“As: awaken [dark oracle]”
