Distorted World: Rise Of The Black One - Volume 3 Chapter 94 4
Asher wrapped up this case with zero evidence of their actions
“Si: all’s well that ends well I guess…”
Sieg said leaning back on the bench
“As: thanks for helping me out…intelligence gathering would have been impossible without you”
Asher said tossing a can of juice to Sieg
(As: even in this world where no true technological advancement can be made, they still invented canned drinks huh? I guess people will do anything for convenience these days)
Asher said sipping a can of this world’s version of coke
Catching the can in the air Sieg opened it and took a gulp himself
“Si: ahhh…that feels great”
Sieg commented
“Si: so…how’d it go?”
Sieg asked glancing at Asher with one eye
“As:…I’ll be honest…it went way better than I expected”
Asher said breathing a sigh of relief
“Si: well that’s good…so how’s “she”?”
Sieg said implicitly putting the emphasis on “she” in his voice
“As: she’s currently taking a bath in our dorm, she seems to be a lot cheerier than before so I’ve succeeded on that front too”
Asher explained
“Si: haaahh…you’re absolutely ruthless you know? Manipulating the heart of a maiden by filling her with despair and immediately dispersing it like some kind of hero…”
“As: well she has been manipulating me ever since I came here so a little payback couldn’t hurt”
Asher said scratching his cheek
“As: and besides no one cares about the methodology or the side effects, results are all that matters, even Elise must have noticed that I was outplaying her and yet she didn’t seem to care so it’s a win-win”
“Si: sigh…I wish I had the ability to come out of things like this as clean as you”
Sieg contemplates
“As: “clean”? If clean is what you’re looking for then I suggest you find a new hobby or develop some new talents, cause being “clean” in our line of work is a mathematical impossibility”
Asher said with a scaringly straight face
His eyes were as twisted as a black hole and as bottomless as the blackness of space, devoid of any true meaning, his complexion was as pale as the moonlight like a figure covered in snow standing in the middle of a winter night, the coldness he exudes is enough to shiver the hearts of even the most mentally prepared human and freeze anyone with a beating heart
Behind his empty expression lies a bitterly cruel sense of reality as if Sieg was in the presence of someone who’ve seen the world burn a million times over
This sudden change in mood scared even Sieg but being as he is he regained his composure after a few minutes
“Si: true, people like you, me and Elise are never truly clean, but the world needs people like that to work…that’s just how it is”
(Si: even me a homunculus, a poor imitation of humans know that)
“As: true…”
Asher stated changing back to his usual ambivalent but less edgy self
(As: rules and laws make the world work they don’t protect you. Justice is ultimately a tool use by the strong to impose their ideals on the week. And any concept can be overwritten with enough authority… so when it comes down to it, you can only rely on yourself or you can either rely on numbers or run away, but that’s kind of a give-or-take scenario at best)
Sieg held up his can to Asher
“As: huh?”
“Si: a toast…”
Sieg said
“As: to what?”
Asher asked
“Si: to us pariahs”
Sieg smiled
“As:…”
“As: to the outcasts”
Asher cheered
