Divine Emperor of Death - Chapter 3921: Katherine's Change
“I see. I see…”
Katherine saw Davis mumbling about something as he looked over at the ton of scrolls he had written himself. He seemed to be verifying his findings and unifying his insights, all the while having her seated on the bed and waiting. She could only look at him and wonder how amazing he was to be this serious when it came to doing something that she also wanted to learn from him.
That’s why she had volunteered to help and become a test subject. She felt guilty about spending all her time playing around with the children, but with this experience, she finally felt she could be of some use.
She also couldn’t help but feel excited.
It was finally time. Her core, which had been experimented on a lot, was already showing signs of change— perhaps breaking down and collapsing from the inside. All Davis had to do was complete the last step. She knew she might die again or join the ranks of a Grand Saint Magical Beast, making her wonder what kind of lion she would become.
As she was lost in her daydreams, Davis finally appeared in front of her and put his hands behind his back.
“Are you ready for this? If the technique fails, I may not be able to revive you again.”
Davis said, lies escaping from his mouth.
“I am ready, Master.”
Katherine literally had no hesitation. There was only unwavering trust in her eyes.
Davis could see that very well, causing him to raise his hands and pat her head. Katherine lowered her head in response as she appeared to be love being caressed. She even purred giddily.
He couldn’t help but smile.
“I’ve been hard on you, taking advantage of your kindness. Even as the family was in danger, you should’ve been a target of my protection, but instead, I chose to experiment on you even though you volunteered. Do you hate me?”
Davis raised his brows. Because the family was endangered, he moved his bottom line quite a bit from his usual position.
Because of that change, his avatar was rather violent with her, aggressively experimenting even with the failsafe and going easy on her. He felt guilty, even hating a part of himself, as this wasn’t really his decision. After all, he had been disconnected from his avatar, and it turned out he didn’t need to push himself so hard.
Only Katherine Hilltail was the victim of his hastiness.
“No way.” However, Katherine seemed to be of another opinion as she displayed a silly smile, “Master, you freed me and allowed me to do as I want here. Every day is fun as I play with Eterna and Celestia. Even though they bully me, Eterna is feisty and loves to snuggle with me to sleep. Celestia acts calm, but she definitely wants to be my favorite as she adores me~”
Katherine giggled like a child, causing Davis to look at her fondly.
“You took care of my children in our stead. I couldn’t be with them for most of the time, so I thank you for keeping them preoccupied and never letting their smiles wilt. I will never forget this, Katherine.”
He took his hand back and made her lie down.
“Relax and close your eyes. This is going to be more painful than before, but I can only let you endure to experience the changes.”
He took his hand back and made her lie down.
“Relax and close your eyes. This is going to be more painful than before, but I can only let you endure to experience the changes.”
“I’m prepared!”
Katherine clenched her fists as she yelled out.
“Relax.” Davis reminded again, causing Katherine to giggle and loosen her fists embarrassedly.
“When you feel an urge, don’t hesitate to change into your magical beast form.” He additionally said.
“Mhm~”
“Good girl. I promise everything will be alright.”
Davis uttered words of encouragement before he brought his hands to her head and began casting his life energy on her. At the same time, karmic energy also began overflowing from his palms. The two of them began mixing and fusing outside as they amalgamated into something the world might have never seen before.
It went into her core, extracting all kinds of bloodlines imbued within the mystical core, even ancestral ones, through the karma it held. It was through this mysterious karmic connection that magical beasts shared inherited memories even if they were many generations apart.
Davis’s technique extracted the genetic memory and began to spread it out through the composition of the core. The magical beast’s core glowed like a molten liquid, appearing to undergo a change.
“Ughaaaaaaa!!!”
Katherine began to growl before she went full-on berserk. She waved her hands left and right and screamed, trying to get Davis away from her, but it was useless. He was strong, completely standing like an anchor stuck to the ground while continuing the treatment.
“Calm down, Katherine. Focus on enduring the pain and living to see the children tomorrow…”
Davis uttered lightly.
His words seemed to be of little help as they didn’t calm down Katherine.
Davis went silent, but eventually, she quieted down. She closed her bloodshot eyes and made herself short as she wrapped her arms around her knees. A strange ripple began to emanate from her, making Davis’s heart churn.
The core was finally undergoing a complete change.
Was he successful…?
Davis didn’t know, but he let nature take its course as he began imbuing life energy all across Katherine’s body, trying to heal her body and boost her growth. This continued for an hour before Katherine shuddered all over.
Her body flashed with a copper light, but Davis also reacted, sending her outside the Nine-Treasured Immortal Ordeal Palace with a wave of his hand.
In the vast void dust land, a mighty lion with a copper-colored mane and bronze-crimson scales appeared. It waved its segmented, rattling tail around, generating strange tremors in space, and caved the ground every time it struck the surface.
Katherine Hilltail’s eyes were glowing red as though she was not herself. It was unknown if she was going berserk or turning into a mindless savage beast, but Davis also appeared beside her and observed with focused eyes.
The sandy earth rumbled beneath the paws of the Rumbling Earthtail Lion as it prowled the vast space, its copper mane shimmering in the starry light. Bronze-crimson scales reflected the fading stars as its segmented tail rattled softly, sending tremors through the rocky terrain with each subtle flick.
Katherine paused, her blood-amber eyes narrowing, sensing something deep within the ground.
Suddenly, a violent tremor surged up from the earth. The ground cracked beneath it, glowing fissures of molten energy spreading outward like a web. The lion roared, its voice a thunderous sound that echoed through the void dust space, but this was not an ordinary roar—this was the roar of change.
The ground beneath the Rumbling Earthtail Lion erupted as if the very heart of the earth had chosen it for something greater. Great shards of magma shot up around the lion, encasing it in a cyclone of earth. The air buzzed with energy as the earth seemed to pulse in time with the lion’s heart.
The beast’s mane began to glow, transitioning from its coppery hue to a molten bronze, swirling like liquid metal. The fissures on the ground mirrored its transformation, their glow intensifying. The lion roared again, and its scales began to shift, hardening further, deep fissures forming across its body. Magma-like light pulsed through these cracks as if the earth itself was flowing within the lion’s veins.
The runes also appeared to be changing significantly, completely changing appearances.
The segmented tail of the lion rattled violently, each segment expanding and taking on the appearance of small molten boulders brimming with a strange seismic energy. The ground responded in kind, shaking with the power of each movement. Dust and stone cascaded down the air, making it quite an apocalyptic scene.
Noticing the berserk undulations, many came out to look.
The energy surrounding the lion intensified, swirling faster and faster. The light from its body grew blinding, and then—silence. The ground, which had been quaking moments before, stilled as the light faded.
Standing in the center of the canyon was no longer the Rumbling Earthtail Lion.
“Isn’t that the… Quaking Earthflame Lion? A Great Saint Magical Beast…” Someone uttered.
The Quaking Earthflame Lion now stood tall, its bronze-crimson scales cracked with glowing veins of molten rock, its molten bronze mane rippling like a river of magma. Its tail, no longer simply a rattling threat, now resembled a living fault line, segments of boulders clattering together with the force of tectonic plates shifting.
The lion took a single step, and the earth responded. A shockwave rippled out from its paw, quaking the region. Rocks and cliffs trembled, but it wasn’t just destructive. There was a deep hum of vitality beneath the devastation, as if the earth was responding to the lion’s presence, acknowledging its newfound power.
With a final, resonant roar, the Quaking Earthflame Lion gazed across the trembling landscape, appearing one with the land. It had transcended into something far greater—a sovereign of the land, the heart of the earth itself.
“Rumbling Laws… incredible…”
Isabella could sense the changes in Katherine’s aura, and within her energy, she picked the faint hint of Rumbling Laws, something that didn’t seem to be innate but definitely something that Katherine could comprehend if she kept learning Earth Laws.
