Divine Enchantress: Night Emperor’s Beloved Consort - Chapter 67
The group stopped somewhere for a bit of time to rest before continuing their journey.
Two days later, they arrived at the outer perimeter of Mount Trux. Luckily, the remaining journey was smooth without any trouble.
They spend both of the remaining nights in the forest and hunted animals for food because Jiang Ying Yue asked Liu Weimin to keep the raw chicken since they didn’t know what the situation in Mount Trux was like. Maybe they could hunt or maybe they couldn’t.
She wanted to be cautious.
The carriage stopped at a small town near the outer perimeter of Mount Trux. Jiang Ying Yue guessed that this small town must be for the people who came to Mount Trux because what else were they doing there other than going to the mountain?
This place couldn’t be a pit stop for merchant because this place was literally like at the end of the world. She knew that Mount Trux was mysterious and so huge that people didn’t know how big it was. She herself was curious of how big this mountain was too.
Jiang Ying Yue and Liu Weimin got down the carriage and she gave Coachman Wu another 50 taels as a gift. He went through danger just to send them here so this was a token of thank you.
As expected, the man refused saying what she gave previously was more than enough but Jiang Ying Yue insisted. “Take it. This is a token of my gratitude for sending us here. You are going back to be there when your wife is giving birth right? Then don’t forget to eat and rest well on your journey back. You don’t want your wife to be sad due to your negligence do you? I wish you safe journey back and may your wife have a smooth delivery.”
Coachman Wu had tears in his eyes. His young miss was such a kind person. It almost didn’t seem like he was talking to a girl who was more than 10 years apart from him. She was calm and mature.
He thanked her and another pouch came to his view. “Here, take it as my token of gratitude too. Have a safe journey back.” Liu Weimin said.
Coachman Wu could only take it and he departed immediately. He said that he would rest later when he felt tired.
Coachman Wu’s departure was within her planning. From the beginning, even before she found out about Coachman Wu’s wife’s pregnancy, the plan was for him to send them and go back home. He would then pick them up again a month later.
And now, he could be there for wife’s delivery as according the due date, she would be giving birth 8 days from now.
Liu Weimin gave him 50 taels too. He suddenly felt like doing so. But he was curious of one thing. “Yue Yue, why are you so nice to him? I can’t be just because of him being good at his job right?”
Jiang Ying Yue looked at him before answering, “In this world where men take concubines and men being disloyal is a norm, he only had his wife in his head. He would rather sleep at a cold place rather than the comfort of a small inn, eat lesser just to save more and he kept his wife’s small portrait drawing in his pocket. I have seen him staring at it lovingly countless of times before.”
She looked at the sky, as if recalling a distant memory. “Sometimes, men cheat or take in concubines without thinking the wife’s feeling. In this world, woman are oppressed and we are regarded as tools of producing heir. Tell me which woman wouldn’t be sad seeing her husband with someone else? But they could only swallow their grievance and keep mum.”
She continued, “Weimin, try to imagine if the situation was reversed. What if women are the ones who can take male concubines and the main husband could not do anything about it? They could only see the woman they love bedding another man every night and had to wait for their turn. Wouldn’t they feel sad?”
Liu Weimin was speechless. He didn’t know what to say at all. In fact, he never thought of things that way. He had been fed the ideology than men were the alpha and women were beneath them. This thinking was new to him but he didn’t reject it. Her question made him wonder what else could there be in the little head of hers?
And he swore he saw the same melancholy look just now when she was looking at the sky. What had happened to her before?
Jiang Ying Yue did not wait for him to answer. They both went to have lunch at a small stall and booked a small inn. They would depart tomorrow after dawn to the mountain.
Jiang Ying Yue didn’t mean to be this way but she really respected someone like Coachman Wu. Nowadays, even a poor man in the village would take in at least concubine not to say him who was a coachman for a noble household. He could take at least 2 but he didn’t. He loved his wife and that was it.
How many people wouldn’t suffer from heartbreak if no one in this world cheats on their partner?
It’s saddening when you gave your all to your significant other only for it to be taken for granted. Nobody knew how painful it was to cry yourself to sleep when your heart was torn to pieces from heartbreak unless you experienced it yourself.
………..
The next morning, right before dawn, Jiang Ying Yue and Liu Weimin had breakfast together. They then departed right after dawn by foot.
They used qinggong to get to the bottom of Mount Trux faster.
They saw a few people there but disregard them. They were here for a mission to grow stronger and they knew although this mountain was dangerous, some people would come to either grow stronger, collect herbs or get magical beast’s core.
Liu Weimin looked at the girl next to him. “Here is where it will all begin. Whether we die or stay alive and grow stronger depended on our own skill. Yue Yue, are you ready?”
Jiang Ying Yue looked at Liu Weimin and her eyes reflected strong resolution. “Yes, I am ready. Are you?”
Liu Weimin nodded firmly. “Yes I am too. Let’s go.”
Both of them then entered the forest with firm resolution to grow stronger to protect themselves and their loved ones.
They walked into the forest. Although it was bright and early in the morning, once they entered the forest, everything seemed slightly dimmer. Tall tress and plants were everywhere. It was almost as if the mountain didn’t experience the four seasons at all. It was currently almost at the end of autumn but the trees and plants were all healthy as if it was spring.
In fact, they weren’t wrong. The forest only had one season throughout and it was warm and humid.
Both of them decided to to walk further inside to find a river make it easier for them to camp at tonight.
They walked for approximately 2 hours before finding one.
They then decided to not set up a tent now and only do it at night.
“Yue Yue do you want to eat some snacks first or are we going for a ‘hunt’ straightaway?”
What Liu Weimin meant by hunt was precisely finding magical beasts, fight them, take their core and call it a day. As easy as it sounded, finding and fighting a magical beast was a hard task but they were up for it.
“Let’s go for a hunt.” Jiang Ying Yue said.
