Don The Hero - Chapter 12
It has been a month since the Battle of Tri-Aegis ended. Most of the villagers have picked themselves up and started working again.
Even Alfred and Betty had started working again. They had decided to take shifts. one would work while the other would look after Don.
It had already been a month since Don fell into a coma like state. Dr. Stone had continuously checked him but found nothing. He was physically fine but the aura surrounding him was anything but stable.
As Dr. Stone thought of what could have brought him to this state, his hatred of Viscount Bart only grew.
After the battle ended that day, with some encouragement from Maryline, Elijah had brought up his guess on what had happened to Don.
At first the villagers refused to believe it but, the more they thought about and the more clues people brought up, the angrier they became.
Even though the detectives agreed with Elijah’s guess, they warned the villagers not to take action. The Beach family was not something that a small village could go up against. They had offered to help search for him for a bit longer than they had agreed on but that was it. They did not want to become involved in such a big mess.
After the talk with the detectives, the chief felt completely powerless. Thinking about how the Viscount had offered him a partnership in agricultural shipments was just too good to be true.
The Viscount was just making excuses for why he would be leaving earlier. To think, he had given them so many expensive items and had welcomed them into his humble village and they were planning to leave his village in rubble.
The Laire people were angry, even the Vineyard People could not hide their displeasure in their face. Their anger only calmed down later when the Don’s rescue party had found Don at the edge of Bloom village.
Although he looked a little malnourished, he did not look like he was going to die. After rushing back to Laire village, to the dismay of the Finch family, Don did not wake up. They waited a day, 2 days, before they knew it, it started to snow as the Scorpio cycle began.
In this month, the fire siblings became even more fired up than usual. They began to train like crazy and they improved rapidly. In just a month Maryline broke through to level G8 while Elijah was trying to break through the bottleneck to the F level.
Such a drastic change in power is monstrous even for these siblings. For some odd reason the energy that healed the villagers had also increased their talent by a bit.
If the villagers tried, they could easily increase their strength a bit. Teacher Zen who was at a bottleneck, finally broke through to level D. Dr. Stone and the others also noticed that they got stronger and could not say whether the beast horde was a misfortune or fortune.
It did not take long after the detectives left for many adventurers and tourists to come to the villages. Many people were curious about the Aegis and did not even try to show much concern or pity for the villagers themselves. Vernia city had hired another party of adventurers to look into the forest. The governor of Vernia was not a fool. He had heard the news of the beast horde straight from Viscount Bart and knew that he had not told the villagers beforehand.
If he sent the Viscount back to the village, who knows if he would come back with his head still in place.
Due to the huge flood of tourists, the arena had gotten higher amounts of attraction and became very popular with the guests. Malcolm was very excited about the this. His dreams had finally come true. His business was going well, He got a new girlfriend and he even found out that the man his wife left him for was a scammer and her life was spiraling out of control. Even so, he could not help but be saddened.
He really missed the bright boy who had helped him get so far. Even if he nagged and or ruthlessly damaged his pride, he was there to save him from making the same mistakes for the thousandth time.
Malcolm smiled as he reminisced about his earlier failures. He had been thinking that if Don had been there, how much better those plans could have been. He sighed as he continued his paper work for the next fight.
Back in the Finch’s home, Elijah and Maryline were watching over Don. They had kept insisting that their mom should take a break until she finally stopped resisting and fell asleep.
While they were watching Don, they could not help but wonder how he had gotten to the edge of Bloom village. It was such an odd place. He could not have gotten there on his own since it was quite some ways away to walk there and even if he did, People would still have noticed. If the adventurers were going to make him disappear, why would they leave him there.
Elijah and Maryline were very confused as they thought of this. Maryline was going to say something when all of a sudden they heard a grumble. They both instinctually turned to where Don was sleeping. They had never been so happy to see Don look at them before. Don rubbed his eyes as he turned towards them.
“Mar, Elijah are you guys all right?” Before Don could even say another word, the 2 kids hugged their brother tightly.
“Don! I missed you! Don’t ever go anywhere without telling me again! Ok?” Maryline said over her sniffles. Elijah rubbed Don’s hair as he tried to wipe his tears.
“I’m glad your back twerp!” Don smiled weakly as he saw the smiling faces of his siblings.
“I… I am glad you’re alright.” Don then hugged his siblings back. It did not take long after for their mom to rush in.
“Why are you two making so much noi- DON! MY BABY!” Betty quickly ran to hug her little boy. Elijah did not waste time in finding their dad who was working at the fields to tell him of the news. He quickly ran back home after leaving the rest of the day’s work to his employees. That day was the end of the darkest days in the Finch’s history books.
They had a heartwarming hug and had told Don of the crazy things that had been happening and they did not forget to tell him about the mythical Aegis who had come to save the villagers. After hearing the whole story, he was bombarded with questions.
He did not hesitate to tell them that Elijah’s guess was right and that the party had kidnapped him and sealed him in a sculptor. He did not go into much detail on how he had ended up in Bloom village but excused it on Aegis carrying him to the edge of bloom village and saving him.
With the ‘truth’ finally brought to light, all the skeptical villagers who did not believed Elijah before finally understood what had happened. Don was glad that he was able to save some people but sadly he was still a little too late. He had still not been able to save everyone.
To stop his family from worrying too much about him, he had said that the Aegis had saved him even though he was the one who had saved himself and most of the villagers. What shocked him even more than hearing that his family could not recognize him was the fact that they thought he was an Aegis.
Aegises were odd flying creatures that were thought to have originated from the flying creatures’ continent of Aquarius. They acted solo and where characterized by their grey wings and blinding gold face. Even though Their strengths in the species ranking were never known, many believed that they were one of the strongest species on Earth.
One reason why there were never ranked was that no one had ever gotten close enough to them to battle them and live to tell the tale. Even worse was that they never spoke and never gave an impression. No one even knew where their habitat was or what they ate. They were a total mystery.
Even so, Aegises were known as guardians. They would stay hidden in a certain town or city and would protect it whenever it was in danger. Due to their unmeasurable strength, they would be able to save the area from any danger and many people would flock to that area and the area would have a huge boom in population, business and overall status.
This had happened many times over history and the area in which the Aegis was situated in would be renamed to honor their guardian. Don knowing that he was the one who saved the people and not some extinct creature did not know how to feel as he saw the banner on the village being changed from Laire Village to Tri-Aegis town or Triaegis town.
With the large increase in people who wanted to move into the villages, the chiefs had decided to merge the villages together and become a decently sized town. Since they were all in good terms with each other, they did not find it uncomfortable to merge into 1 town.
Don who had seen the end of this transition did not bother to think too much about it and decided to go to Solomon’s and help him out. Solomon who was working hard to build new houses with his wife was delighted to see his favorite Finch all healthy and ready to work. What he did not expect was for those destructive siblings of his to come with him.
“Solomon! Do you need any help?” Don asked with a warm smile. Solomon could not help but smile back as he saw that Don was truly all better now.
“We can always use an extra hand! Just as long as those siblings of yours don’t burn anything!” Solomon answered. Maryline could not help but feel insulted by this statement. She off course had already forgotten the days and nights of unnecessary workload that she had made the poor couple go through.
Elijah on the other hand was not as forgetful and could only awkwardly smile.
“Don’t worry Solomon, we are just here to make sure Don is safe. We won’t get in your way unless you want us to!” Solomon smiled as he heard this. ‘These brats still have some good points at least’ he thought.
Don and the Blacksmith couple worked day and night to help build new houses as new residences flooded in. At some point even the Flame siblings were dragged into the work. After a day of construction and following strict orders from Solomon, they finally realized how hard it was to actually repair things. Without realizing it, they had gained new respect for the lazy blacksmith.
If the Finch children were not helping Solomon and were not at school, then they were in the Martial arts building. All the students were fired up by the beast horde to become stronger. Even Don had started to take the class seriously and even began to have matches with other kids his age.
Everyone had treated him lightly at first but before they knew it, Don had become one of the best martial artist student in his age group. Everyone could only sigh. ‘Truly the Finch children are monsters. Even the book worm can beat you up if he tried.
After a few months had past, the waves of tourist had gone down and the influx of new residence had finally stabilized. The town’s population had gone from 30 thousand to 100 thousand people in just 3 months. The political situation had also changed. The 3 chiefs, Pop, Mayweather and Berns had decided to let the towns people elect who would be the official mayor of Triaegis. Unsurprisingly, it was Chief Pop who had the support of Bloom Village people which were the most numerous in number.
Most of the new residence had decided to stay away from voting as they did not even know the candidates beforehand. Other than Berns and Mayweather becoming part of the Council, Alfred had also become a council member since, he owned the biggest farm land in the whole town. Malcolm Logs who was the owner of the Triaegis arena was also included as a member. Polly Timber and Jenivive Ayo were also picked as council members due to their management in the Timber and inn business respectfully.
At this time, it was already the last week of the Capricorn cycle. Elijah and Maryline’s birthdays had come and gone and they were both 16 and 14 respectfully. They had already been packing their bags in excitement as the thought of what was going to happen next week came to mind.
At the start of every Aquarius cycle, People around the world would travel to Adventurers school to take part in the Exams in hopes of getting in. Without a doubt in their minds, the two siblings had already decided on where they were going to go. Crescent Borne Academy.
