Don’t Fear Of Darkness - Volume 1 Chapter 22 Is There A Gardener Somewhere?
Throughout the whole of January I had a total of 5 days off and on every such day I came down to grassland with familiars to experiment. In the end, I managed to master three spells of the magic of the dark. The first was the energy shield, which, thanks to the trial and error method, was finally almost flawless. Using 1/3 of my mana, the shield can withstand up to 40 strokes of my Barghests, and at full power over one hundred, however, it is difficult to assess its usefulness on the basis of how many times the shield can withstand the attack of an hypertrophied dogs.
That’s why today I took with me several types of weapons that I found on the shooting range, among others AK-47, Walter P-99, M16, MP5, M4 and Uzi, and a few grenades. I was not afraid that Edmund would learn about my tests because I knew he already knew.
I realized it after the third come here that he was watching me. I would like to say that it is due to my perceptiveness and skills … but not.
It was the most common case in the world. When I practiced the magic of the dark I tried to use it to strengthen my body, because I read that the aspect of soul magic is the ability to increase their physical abilities, but it is very rarely used due to large mana loss for small benefits, however, I really wanted to try it.
I poured power into my arm and picked up a small stone. I swung myself and pushed the stone straight ahead. The pebble was flying at high speed above the canopys of trees. Strengthening succeeded, but this one shot devoured of my energy, while for the same amount I could use several fireballs, so it was useless, at least for the moment.
The second thing was the huge pain I felt in my hand. It seemed that this spell would damage my muscles. Just when I waited for the pain to pass I heard several loud glitches from a distance. I tried to check it, but I found nothing strange. It was only after returning that Edmund was lying on the armchair pressing the sack of ice to his forehead. When he saw me coming back he looked at me strangely, and when I asked what had happened to his head he left without saying anything.
It was only later that he explained to me that he knew what I was doing and watched me so that I would not hurt myself. In the end I was much quieter knowing that I had his quiet training permit.
But back to the present moment, I set the energy disc about 5 meters apart and started shooting at it.
Walter, Uzi and MP5 did not have much effect even after several rounds from close range, but AK-47 using two magazines was able to break through, while M4 and M16 needed only 1.5 magazines. As for the grenades, the shield lasted three. In this way I already had some idea how much the shield is able to protect me. However, here comes a big problem, namely when I use the shield I can not move and use other magic to attack than the magic of darkness. I will have to work a little bit over it, because I will only become a easy target.
The next spell I created was “Dark Sickle.” He used half the mana more than a fireball or air blade, but it has more punching power and he can mow the whole tree with just one hit, and he looks great so I’m going to master him to perfection.
For the last spell I do not have a name yet. It is not a defensive or attacking spell, rather for ambushes or escapes. He creates black clouds around me that completely
distrubs visibility. It is useless in the open, but it can be invaluable in buildings or in confined spaces, especially as the fog effect does not work on me.
(Hmm, I wonder if it’s because of these eyes?)
By the way, thanks to these golden eyes, I have recently been able to see in the dark as well as in the day, which is a useful option
In any case, today’s day I found it successful and I was about to come back when I saw that Bast was chasing a rabbit. He was about to get him when he suddenly threw himself to the right and jumped into the bushes. Suddenly, in the bushes, something started to move and something shot out of them.
It was the rabbit, but at the moment it looked like Swiss cheese – was all pierced. Bast jumped away from the bushes and took up a fighting position. A glow began to glow from his mouth, and then a fiery ball flew out of him.
Yes, recently the Barghest have acquired a new ability, a fire shooting from their mouths. They can do it three times a day, but not in a row. The fire reached the bush, and when it hit him I felt the earth begin to tremble.
A dozen black tentacles of the thickness of my head with rotten-green spikes grew
jumped out of from the ground. They all went straight to Bast.
Without waiting, I threw myself in his direction, simultaneously attacking the creature. I used a fiery lance and threw it towards something that looked like the core of a monster. He felt threatened and withdrew several tentacles to defend himself. The fire started consum the tentacles and began to incinerate them. The creature directed the tentacles into the snow to extinguish them.
The spell did not do him much damage, but it distracted him enough so that my Barghests would come to me.
I picked up Uzi and started to whack up this strange herb, and Xena fired her fireball. We hit a tentacle that was earlier injured. She began to tear apart and fell to the ground. The monster got pissed off and threw at us.
Before he reached us I put a barrier, and all the spikes bounced off it. However, the monster did not become discouraged and continued the attack.
I had to act quickly because I would be in the ass. I ordered the familiars to attack from the sides, and I was to draw his attention. I deactivated the barrier and threw myself at him. Thanks to the windy steps, I was able to avoid his blows without a problem. Xena and Bast got to the second wounded tentacle and lost their food in the place where it was the weakest and torn it off.
(That’s two, it’s been 10 now.)
I pulled out the last grenade from my pocket and threw it at the core, knowing that the enemy would want to cover it. One of the tentacles grabbed a grenade, but at that moment it exploded, tearing it apart.
To my misfortune I was stared and one of his tentacles disable my legs. I fell hard to the ground. An eye account I saw that the tentacle is flying towards me.
I thought it was after me, but that’s when I heard a few shots. Mack began to cover the ice and a moment later turned into an ice sculpture.
I turned around and noticed Edmund.
“Master!”
“Less talk more chopping.”
I nodded and focused on the fight.
After losing 4 tentacles the creature clearly slowed down, but it was still dangerous. We attacked him on four sides without giving him time to counterattack.
In the end, only three tentacles stayed at him and good, because my mana was running out. I thought it was the end, but it was then that one of them hit Xene. The spike stuck deep into her side.
“NO!!!”
Without a second thought I rushed to save her. Tentacle stepped back to deal the final blow and Bast and Edmund were busy so I was left alone.
I got to Xena and used the barrier, but my power was too weak.
The spike, meeting only weak resistance, smashed the barrier and stuck in my arm.
“Gahh!”
It was damn painful. I caught a spike, tried to summon the magic of fire, but then something strange happened.
Tentacle retreated like electrocuted, as did the other two. They returned to the core, which began to rise.
A giant sphere made of branches began to go towards me on my tentacles-legs completely ignoring the rest. It went very shaky and if not for my situation the effect would be comical.
Edmund and Bast were also surprised because they stopped the attack. The plant monster came to me. In the center of the bush there was a strange object resembling an eye, in the color of its spikes. The creature watched me closely, then did something that I did not expect completely.
He…
