“So… you mean to say that the two of you kissed accidentally at the first time. However, there are also ‘other times’ when you two did it consciously. Come on, kiddo, you are smarter than that, you know what that means!” Kayden grumbled while dramatically shaking his head

However, Klein is still not convinced. “No, that’s not possible” Klein insisted and Kayden looked at him again as if he was the stupidest person in the whole world

“For god’s sake, you two kissed and from how it sounds, multiple times. You think you like him and him kissing you sounds like he likes you too. What’s not clicking?”

This time, it was Kayden’s turn to be frustrated. Anyone would know what is happening after hearing the story yet Klein is still set on denying things

“You don’t understand. Just… I can’t like him, okay?” Klein replied that made Kayden exasperated

Seems like Klein has the talent to get under people’s skin. His own frustrations vanish and look as if it was transferred to the vexed Kayden

“Okay, I’m going to ask again, why?!” Kayden questioned while stressing the word ‘why’, acting really dramatic

“For the nth time, he’s straight! I can’t like him!” Klein replied and in a sour mood, he grabbed another can of beer and chugged more than half of it in one go, making his cheeks redder than before

“What you are saying is that it’s not like you don’t like him. It’s, you ‘can’t’?”

“Yes!”

No matter what, Klein cannot let himself fall to Calix. That is an unacceptable thing!

“Even if you two don’t end up together, it’s not like it would be the end of the world, right? It’s perfectly normal to like someone without them liking you”

Kayden really can’t understand what Klein is thinking. Having unrequited feelings for someone is not a rare thing. Just why is Klein set on stopping his own feelings?

“You don’t understand” Klein said while shaking his head as he drank some more beer. Fortunately, his alcohol tolerance was high. If not, he might not even have the power to stand anymore

Even then, Klein supported his body by leaning his back on the car as he stared down at the can in his hand

“Yes, I don’t. That’s why you need to make other people understand. Maybe, even you, do not understand yourself well. Life is like a war, kiddo, and wars aren’t won by a single person. You need other people” Kayden said gently and Klein looked at him in surprise

“What? You realizing how handsome I am now?” Kayden asked with a grin and a deadpan expression instantly appeared in Klein’s face

Earlier, Klein looks at the long-haired guy in surprise as he didn’t expect that this guy could spout such good ‘words of wisdom’. But after seeing how arrogant Kayden was, his amazement instantly vanishes

“No, you just don’t look like someone that is able to say something like that” Klein replied before turning his gaze back to his beer

“Somehow, I feel insulted but go on, make me understand your reason. Maybe, that would help you to understand yourself”

Klein took a deep breath before speaking again. “I’m gay and even if you are not, you at least have some idea of things that gay people went through, right?” Klein questioned while glancing at Kayden and the latter nodded his head

“People mocked us, bully us, say hurtful words that felt like knives stabbing our hearts all because we like people of the same gender”

“I was fortunate, really fortunate. My parents are nice, they accepted me easily. Although that’s literally the basic minimum as parents but because of how the world is, parents like them are like precious gems”

“With my family’s love and help, I experienced lesser bad things that most gay people do. But still, I still experience those horrible things. I even have a homophobic aunt”

“Although I don’t experience all horrible things that most gay people went through, I’m still not ignorant”

Klein took a deep breath again before continuing. “I saw how horrible and hard it is for gay people to live in this world. Even finding someone that they could love and would love them is hard”

“Hell, there were even straight people that would take advantage of gay guys’ vulnerability. They would give them below the bare minimum but since a lot of gays starved for love and affection, they would treat the little things that they got as priceless treasures”

“I don’t, I don’t want to be like them. I don’t want to be used and hurt by any guy. Maybe, that was the reason why I am still single”

Not to brag but Klein knows that there are a lot of guys that want to be his boyfriend. There are a lot that confessed their feelings for him but he politely declined

If he wants to, Klein could have a lot of boyfriends by now but he still doesn’t have at least one

A flash of pity appeared in Kayden’s eyes but since Klein gave him an impression that he has a very strong personality, he changed the way he look at him

A lot of strong people don’t want to receive pity and Klein might be one of them

As such, Kayden just decided to just listen so that Klein could remove everything that he has in his chest

“If it’s gay guys, maybe, if I like them, I might give it a chance. However, things are different if the said person is straight”

“Sure, there are people that originally thought that they were straight that ended up falling for another guy or girl and they lived happily ever after. But the problem was, how many of them?”

“Just go to any social media platform, you’ll see stories of gay people getting hurt because of straight guys. They thought that the straight guy would like them until the end only to end up going back to liking girls”

“I don’t want to end up like them. It might sound pessimistic but I’d rather not be in a long and happy relationship if, in the end, I’ll be miserable”

“That’s why, I can’t like him… I can’t… I-I can’t”

Towards the end, Klein’s voice cracked as he became emotional. That was something that was in his chest for years and only now did he let it out

Even his family and friends didn’t know that. Those people are too good for him and Klein don’t want them to see him hurt and broken just because of a guy

As a result, Klein has always been trying his best to deny his growing feelings for Calix. He doesn’t want to acknowledge these feelings as it would feel more real

But now, after the accumulation of his feelings, it finally exploded in the presence of a stranger

If Calix was gay, Klein might not resist much. However, Klein don’t want to have a relationship with Calix when there was a risk that the straight guy would one day go back to wanting girls

No, Klein can’t let himself go through such a horrible experience. Just like what they say, prevention is better than cure

Klein knew that he sounds like one of those people that are too pessimistic and selfish. One of the reasons why he didn’t disclose what he was really feeling to other people prior to Kayden

He thought that Kayden would judge him but he didn’t expect the man’s next words

“I understand” Kayden said causing Klein to shot him a look

“I mean, sure, you are being really negative but it’s not like it was without a reason. You are just being realistic” Kayden continues

“Others are too idealistic while you are too realistic. Nothing wrong with that but… it can be quite exhausting, right?”

Exhausting… yeah, it was really exhausting. After all, it’s not easy for anyone to shut down their growing feelings

Even if you don’t want to like someone, if your heart has a different opinion, you still wouldn’t be able to stop your feelings from growing

“How about this, you rest first. Rest as long as you need if you think that you are rested enough, face the problem head-on. You don’t want to like that guy but since you can’t stop your heart, just accept the fact”

“As a realistic person, I think that you already know that stopping yourself from liking him is not a possibile thing to do, right?”

Klein unconsciously nodded his head at that. The way Calix always tried to get inside his heart was not an easy thing to stop or prevent

Even if Calix don’t do anything, Klein would still think about him and in the process, he falls deeper and deepe
