Dragon Breaks The Void - Chapter 41 A Ferocious Maid
“I see you have met my daughter.”
The City Lord stated. Van found it rather strange. After all, she was right in front of him and that such a statement would usually be the start of a conversation. But of course, Van, being the high intellectual child at the age of 13 he was, could see the fury that laced the words that had come forth.
“Yes… I have! And she is a nice, well-cultured young lady that I can see will become a beautiful mature woman in the near future.”
Hao Daiyu blushed in response to Van’s compliment. Hearing that come from her first friend, besides her father and servants, made her feel all tingly inside.
The City Lord’s eyebrow started to twitch.
Making a move on my daughter right in front of me, are we?! I’ll show you what for!
Suddenly, a lightbulb seemed to materialize inside of him as an ingenious idea spewed forth from the fountains of wisdom.
“Van, as your teacher, I must take the responsibility and time to teach you. I think this may be the perfect time for me to execute my duties as your newfound mentor.”
A malicious smile could be seen plastered to the City Lord’s face as he approached Van slowly.
“No! I mean… I’m fine, thank you!”
Van screamed as he scooted away from the City Lord. Seeing that his pace wasn’t nearly fast enough, he picked himself up and ran away screaming, City Lord on his tail. Tears started to drip out of the corners of Van’s eyes as he thought of the unspeakable horrors to come.
I don’t want to die!
Were the thoughts that ran through his head as he dashed off into the distance.
Hao Daiyu watched in shock as the Van and the City Lord commenced their chase that would lead to Van’s demise, at least mentally. A few moments later, she collapsed to the ground, full of laughter. It was a beautiful melodious sound that attracted the attention of the many critters that had previously gone into hiding.
They all emerged and surrounded Hao Daiyu creating a picturesque scene that seemed to have come straight out of a page in a fairy tale.
Meanwhile, our main character was currently being chased by a demon. One that was very persistent and strangely of the human species, yet it was of the worse kind, an overprotective father kind.
What should I do?! How am I ever going to escape from this tragedy?! I was just trying to make friends here! Why did I have to make friends with someone with an overprotective father and not just any father! It’s my own mentor!

Van looked around frantically, looking for a way out. The duo rushed past innocent palace servants that were just walking along the palace halls, doing their honest work. Van continued to look behind him to check if the City Lord was still there. Sure enough, the City Lord was hot on his tail, eyes blazing with unconcealed fury.
Van squeaked in fear and picked up his pace, infusing a bit more Qi into his feet, allowing him to take more strides in a second. All of a sudden, he found himself suspended in the air. He squeaked in fear, thinking that the City Lord had finally caught him.
This is the end!
He thought to himself as he was pulled up by the scruff of his neck. He was turned around so that his face was turned toward the face of the culprit. Van’s expression turned to one of shock and then one of joy.
“Maria!”
Van exclaimed in joy as he recognized the face of the one who had taken care of him in the Celestial Heavens Palace as he was unconscious. He reached out his arms to hug Maria, thankful for her saving of him. Maria had a stern expression on her face as her eyes shifted from the City Lord to Van and back again.
“Maria, I can explain.”
The City Lord was sweating nervously as he tried his best to carefully compose an appropriate response to the angered servant.
“What are you two doing?! You’ve ruined the organization of the entire palace and thrown it into chaos!”
She started shaking in anger. As a result, Van also started to shake.
“Mmmmmmaarrrriiaaaa… Iiii ttthhhiinnkkk yyyyooouuu sshhoouuulllddd ppputtt mmmeee dddowwnn.”
Maria withdrew her anger for a second to place Van down in a nearby chair. After she set Van down, the air immediately turned hot and stuffy as her rage had turned into heat causing the air around her to heat up.
“Hao Li! I think its time I reminded you of the responsibilities that your position enquires!”
The City Lord turned a few shades paler and he started to unconsciously retreat. Maria’s stature immediately became like that of a demon. She seemed to grow claws and fangs as she slowly advanced on the City Lord. Of course, this was all a figment of the City Lord’s and Van’s imagination that adapted to their perception of their realities.
Surprisingly, Van heard a sound of whimpering that emerged from the City Lord. His jaw dropped in shock; he never thought in his wildest dreams that he would see such a high and mighty figure humbled by one of his own servants.
Suddenly, Maria’s demonic aura withdrew into herself and she turned towards Van, a smile plastered on her face. She started to speak up, causing Van to jump up in fear.
“Van, sweetie. Would you go back to your room? I need to have a talk with this numbskull and then I’ll get to you. Got it?”
Her eyes took a menacing glare to clarify to Van her intentions.
“Yyyyeeesss, Ma’am!”
Van saluted her, making sure to straighten his back and puff out his chest, for fear of inciting her anger any further and causing it to be reflected upon him instead of the pitiful City Lord.
“Good.”
She nodded approvingly before turning back to the City Lord and seemed to teleport in front of him. Her demonic aura was once again let loose as she grabbed onto the City Lord’s shoulders and hauled him away. Before she got out of sight, she looked back at Van and waved sweetly.
Van waved back, listening to the screams of terror that came out of the City Lord without end. He heard the shutting of a door and the screams were cut off. Van started sweating nervously. He would’ve never imagined that the calm and collected Maria would ever be able to turn into such an evil being. He wasn’t sure if he should be relieved or worried about the silence.
Van shrugged it off and headed back to his room, ready to await the long lecture to come.
At least it won’t be as bad as what the City Lord is receiving at the moment. Right?
Van thought to himself as he opened the door to his room absentmindedly. He ordered for a meal to be brought up to his room before laying down on the bed, looking at the ceiling. He could hear the singing of birds as it drifted in on the breeze through the open window. That’s when the calming sounds of nature were interrupted by the talking of servants.
Van was about to go out to rebuke them when he started to hear some information on an interesting subject. He pressed his ear to the keyhole and strained his Qi so that it would amplify the sound.
“- the poor city lord, the demon maid, Maria, has got to him again. He is our employer, I don’t think that anywhere else has such a creature as her. I wonder how she is going to punish the new guest.”
Maid 1 said, with a worried tone to her voice.
“Maybe she won’t punish him as bad? I mean, he is a guest.”
Maid 2 asked innocently in reply to Maid 1’s statement. Maid 1 started to chuckle before she spoke up once more.
“You don’t know Maria. Anyone who violates the natural order of things around here gets equal punishment – including the guests. I don’t really know what she does in there, but it gets the City Lord to become like a sheep, brainwashed and willing to listen to anything she will say. I’ve even heard from one of my friends, who serves the City Lord’s meals, that she’s found what seems to be tear-stained documents after every session.”
Van’s face turned a few shades paler and he started to unconsciously slide onto the ground. All of a sudden, there could be heard the sounds of one of the butlers approaching.
“Hey! What are you two maids doing loitering around?! We still have a lot more work to do! Get on it!”
A few apologies were mumbled and the three servants ran off to do their work. Van crawled to the bedside, his legs shaking as if there was an earthquake with a 10 on the Richter Scale. He limply threw his arms on the bed and dragged the rest of his body up. He flipped himself over and looked at the ceiling. Then, he started to mumble to himself.
“Is it the end for me?”
