Dragons Among Heroes - Volume 1 Chapter 58 Slaying The Beast
Of the three individuals standing on the ledge, Sabretooth looked maniacally happy to see them, Klaue looked slightly pissed, and the hooded woman was still shrouded in mystery due to her hood. As the villainous trio looked at Devin and the two wakandans, an almost static tension seemed to fill the air. This tension was then broken by the deranged laughter of Sabretooth.
“Finally! Now I can rip your arms off for cutting off mine earlier!” Sabretooth shouted as he jumped from the cliff and headed for Devin. Devin readied himself for another round.
“You two take care of the other ones. I’ll try and finish this rabid animal off once and for all.” Devin said right before he was tackled by Sabretooth and the two rolled away. Devin couldn’t really make heads or tails of just how far they had ended up rolling, though this could have been because he was dodging claws and punches while returning his own punches. Summoning his dagger to his hand, Devin tried stabbing but all of his more fatal blows were being blocked just as much as the superficial ones were landing.
Devin had just enough spirit points saved up thanks to the previous fight as well as the explosions from just a minute ago to use each spirit once for a short period of time, but he didn’t want to waste it at the moment. Devin and Sabretooth continued to fight it out in close quarters with neither one getting the upper hand. Devin was fast and slipped out of his opponent’s grasp time and again while Sabretooth’s healing factor and brute strength gave him an advantage over Devin. Soon Devin managed to get a foot wedged between the two and shove with all his might.
“F.u.c.k you!” Devin ground out as he launched Sabretooth backwards through the air and slamming into a tree. Devin stood up with only a split lip to show for the rumble he just went through. Sabretooth on the other hand jumped up and looked no worse for wear. Devin knew that he had to do something either to counter act the mutant’s healing factor or Deal enough damage in one go so as to make sure that he couldn’t heal. Devin remembered that in the movies Wolverine had talked about trying to cut his head off and see if that worked. It had killed that terrible version of Deadpool, though that was with Wolverine’s claws being super-heated so maybe if he channeled fire magic through his blades before lopping off the man’s head then he could actually permanently kill the psychotic mutant. Should probably cremate the remains once he was done.
With a flick of his wrist, Devin flipped his daggers around before letting a slow trickle of fire mana slip into each blade till the edges glowed orange with heat. This caused Sabretooth to raise an eyebrow in response.
“Oh, shiny.” the mutant said sarcastically, causing Devin to roll his eyes. Devin ran forward to swipe his dagger at Sabretooth only for the man to lean back to narrowly dodge the swipe. Devin kept on the offensive jabbing and slashing as some small nicks landed on his opponent only for them to heal, though slower than a normal cut would.
“You’re good kid. I’d bet you’d even give the runt a run for his money, but there is one big difference here.” Sabretooth said right before he caught Devin’s wrists to keep him from impaling the blades in the mans shoulders.
“I’ve been at this longer.” Sabretooth said with a sneer. The two struggled for a second, back and forth right before Devin made a simple decision and kicked his opponent right between the legs. Sabretooths eyes widened comically right before he staggered back with one hand holding his now injured jewels as Devin returned the sneer.
“Grow those back.” Devin said as he extended his wings from his back. Devin pumped more and more mana into the wings as he waited for Creed to stand up once more. He needed to do this fast. Faster, fast enough that Creed wouldn’t have time to dodge or react so he continued to pump mana into his wings.
Creed stumbled to his feet as Devin looked up and readied his daggers by adding a sliver more fire mana so that the blades went from orange to white hot. Devin launched himself forward in a blur. Soon there was a wet sound of something solid passing through something wet and then Devin was standing ten feet beyond where Creed was. As Devin turned to look Creed was holding his throat, a staggering step forward was the deciding factor as the jarring force from that step caused his head to slowly tip forward and then detach from his neck. The head bounced twice before coming to a stop roughly the same time as the body hit the ground. Devin waited with baited breath as he watched for any sign of the body to move. When a full minute passed and nothing happened then Devin let out a sigh of relief.
“Jeez, glad that worked!” Devin said as he wiped the sweat off his brow. Walking over to the body and severed head, Devin was about to torch both when he remembered another little detail from the Origins movie that initially made him ill to consider, but after a moment more of thought he decided to store Creeds body just on the off chance that he might have to go ahead with the idea. Once the head and body were stowed in his inventory, Devin looked for his teammates.
T’Challa was still fighting Klaue from what Devin could see. The more concerning fight was Okoye and the mysterious woman in the cloak. Okoye was on the ground and seemed to be muttering to herself. Devin decided to check and see what the mystery woman was doing. Looking at the woman standing roughly a dozen feet away from Okoye, Devin couldn’t tell if she was even breathing with how still she was. The only movement was of a slightly pale, yellow fog that seemed to be drifting from underneath her cloak and dissipating into the surrounding air. This fog must be what incapacitated Okoye though how it did so is just as mysterious as its owner.
“Okoye! Are you okay?!” Devin shouted at the downed woman, but silence was his response. Devin knew that he needed to help her, but in order to do so he needed to find a way around that fog.
