- Chapter 72:The Village Chief's Daughter wants a break.
My bother has been acting strange since the accident that happened one week ago, making my father temporarily pass the baton to him. At first I thought it was simply because he was a bit uncomfortable with his new responsibilities and it would improve as time passed but time proved me wrong again and again.
Following the accident day he took a stranger in his house and suddenly fainted, creating a huge mess that almost gave me a heart attack. Luckily the stranger was a lot more composed than I expect and we were able to avoid the worst situation by reaching a middle ground agreement.
To ensure the stranger was been sincere and not plotting anything against us, I called my best friend and asked for her help, and after she joined us, both of us accompanied him to his house while baiting him to reveal his hidden side.
At the beginning I was really tense, feeling like I was playing with fire and any mistake could cost us a lot more than we were ready to pay, but as we got to know him we rested assured as he really didn’t seem to have a bad character.
By the time we reached his home, if you can call a cave home, he had already opened up a lot to us and we could already be considered friends. But maybe that’s exactly what turned to bite us back as he played a trick on us, making us scared to death to the point of fainting.
Really now! Telling us ghost stories inside a god damn sacrifice chamber of an evil cult! Talk about going overboard! But I have to admit it was fun… just don’t tell that to him. 😉
Anyway, by the time we woke up in the treasure chamber, hell had broken lose. I heard the sound of people fighting, then Leticia’s scream and as I got out of the room I found the Jack knocked out, making my heart almost stop, I hurried to aid him and luckily he had not really been hurt.
After making sure Jack was OK, I looked around and saw Josh being treated by Leticia while Plate was facing the wall as if a kid who had done wrong.
After going back to the village I decided to visit my brother to report to him all that happened. Imagine my surprise as the moment I enter his house she suddenly scream like a girl and faint right in front of me.
Really, such eventful day… sigh…
Anyway, let’s wait until tomorrow to talk to him.
…
Next morning I talked to him about all that happened and assured him Plate was not a dangerous fellow and we could trust him to a degree and maybe even create a business relationship later…
My words seem to have been in vain as when I visited him later to bring his lunch I found him fainted again with plate trying to help him out.
Sigh… such troublesome brother…
It turned out that Plate came this time for business and he had brought multiple precious gems for payment. Honestly I never felt so nervous in my life, as I never dealt with so much money at once but it seems like he didn’t notice as he joke around as usual and generously left everything in my care after giving out a list of requests, showing how much trust he put in me…. or maybe just how lazy he was, but don’t tell that to him.
With this huge amount of money in my hands, the following days were quite busy as I ran around the village looking for people to attend to each of Plate’s requests and after all were commissioned, I still had to follow closely to ensure no problem would happen and everything would be fulfilled in time. I honestly wanted to ask my brother for help but when I looked at his dispirited face I decided to just let him rest.
Several days passed and my brother’s attitude started getting on my nerves. He literary started stalking me right and left instead of doing his own job. Maybe because of that, people started relying on me instead of him to do the village chief’s job, making me more and more busy.
Suddenly all my free time was gone and all that was left was the village chief work on my table, checking accounts, supplies, tasks progress and so on… and my brother, who was supposed to do this, vanished out of my sight… T_T
Later that night I finally found my brother lost in thought and told him what happened… Unfortunately it seemed like he didn’t believe me, so I decided again I couldn’t rely on him…
This next morning I step forward and put the plan to use, calling everybody from the village for an emergence reunion and telling them about the imminent danger. Luckily because of the last days working as a village chief I had gained enough trust for them to hear me out and accept my plan.
So we started packing our things and decided to move things out in waves, the first one departing this same afternoon with the children and old people.
