Dxd: Master Of Shadows - Volume 1 Chapter 4 4 Rewrite Maximus
“Hum~ Hum~ Humhumhum~ Ea~gle, I want to hunt a Ea~gle!”
I was currently running on top of the trees in the forest, actually, it’s more fitting to call it jumping. I held this girl witch in my arms, the way my father taught me to, and she has been trying to make me unhand her for quite a bit now. Originally, I dropped her because she said I would get her pregnant but when I thought about it, people don’t make babies just by touching right? Also the little griffin with her disappeared into a magic circle before we started jumping, she said it was something like a familiar.
“Uwu~ your royal highness, please let me go~ or if you don’t want to, just tell me what we are doing!”
I looked at the girl with the surname of Reni and ignored her, just kidding~ I wanted to tell her but she might just decide to forever cling to me if I said so. Or, eh whatever.
“I’m going to hunt for a demon eagle. Just a little bit more, I was tasked by my mother to bring her the heads of both a dragon bear and a demon eagle but the heracles would be fine too.”
And yep, her face was as white as a milk, she actually even tightened her grip at me. Are all girls this clingy? My mom doesn’t do that to my dad though, hmm. Maybe it’s just her that’s weird and not my mom.
“A-a-are y-y-your seriously going to hunt a d-d-d-demon eagle?!”
Woah. Stutter master. I remember my mom doing that back when dad asked her about what type of…uh linge- linge- linginger? I don’t remember but he asked why type she wanted to wear in front of the store. As we came closer to the nest of the demon eagle’s, I had the bright idea to make myself a weapon using her magic, I don’t know why but that idea popped into my head the moment I thought of her ice magic.
“Hey, Elaine. Can you make that ice spear of yours without launching it?”
She looked at me with a confused face but nodded.
“I-I can but…it’s just as fragile as normal ice without my mana backing it up, and that happens when I try to get it out of my grip.”
“That’s good enough! Hehe, nice! Now I have a weapon!”
She continued staring at me before shaking her head. We continued for a bit more until we finally saw a demon eagle landing on its nest, it was a huge eagle about 2 meters in length, originally I wanted to just beat it with a rock but I kind of wanted to show off. I don’t know, it felt natural to do so.
“Eeek! It’s there! Wh-what do we d-?!”
“HEY CHICKEN! I’M MAKING YOU MY DINNER! FIGHT ME!”
I shouted as loud as I can at the eagle, and from that I used my weird ability. I saw several windows in front of me and the total was around 32? All of them had to do with me using a nearby branch to block its attack or dodge to a few different directions, I picked one this time since I didn’t like the dodging ones.
“Hoo~ Iya!”
I broke a nearby branch as I moved forward and landed on the ground successfully, of course Elaine was with me, she was as light as a feather. Anyways, from my ability, the eagle would fly towards me in, not counting the time to think, about 8 seconds, ready it’s talon and attack me in about 2 seconds.
“Elaine count up to 6”
Elaine did so unwillingly and just clung tightly while I was using her as a timer.
“1…2….3”
At the 3rd second, I took a look at the thick stick at my right hand and viewed it as a weapon to kill the eagle.
“4…5”
I heard the eagle’s screech come closer and the branch in my hand was now covered in a black aura, the sword felt like a part of me while I felt like my hand was the sword and finally the timer ended.
“6!”
“KIEEEEE!”
The loud screech of the eagle came upon us, it made Elaine cover her ears but I raised the stick in my arm and blocked the oncoming talon, Elaine looked at me like I was crazy at first but she soon had eyes of…unknown admiration, I swear it was hearts.
After blocking the talon, the eagle went up again and circled us, I knew I wouldn’t be able to kill the bastard like this so I asked Elaine to create the ice spear.
“How long?”
“A few sec-”
“Specific!”
“5!”
I took note of the eagle approaching us once more so I swung the branch, it created a gust of win the bought me enough time to use my weird ability. I didn’t bother looking at the window and just used the automatic method, I quickly rolled forward and the eagle couldn’t immediately attack back and had to fly up and spin, during this time I already left Elaine at the side to create the ice spear while distracting the eagle.
“How long?!”
“It’s here! Done!”
She looked at me with hope but the it suddenly changed back into panic as she wanted to give it to me.
“How do I gi-! EEK!?”
The eagle noticed her and was about to pounce on her but I threw the branch at the eagle, it was thrown with enough strength to graze it a little too deep in the chest, the eagle stopped it’s advance and deemed me the truly dangerous predator.
“Throw it at me!”
Elaine who fell down at the ground still had the ice spear floating, she looked at me like I was crazy.
“Don’t think about my safety first, I’m stronger than most people!”
She still had a slight doubt at it but closed her eyes and madly waved her wand at me, the eagle was at the very least 7 seconds away. I used my ability and went for the automatic method, it showed me a movement that I don’t remember being able to do? I gritted my teeth, was this ability finally failing me? No! I’ll just believe it with all my trust!
She launched the spear at me and the eagle was only a few meters away from me from the sky. I caught the spear just after dodging it and did the thing in the window I never was able to do, I needed at the very least 3 to 4 seconds in order to make the weapons I use usable but this time, the moment I touched it, the black covered it in a fraction of a second and I blocked the eagles beak with it, the loud sound of two metal like objects clashing reverberated throughout the forest, and finally it flew away again but-
“Lionheart Spear Arts: The Tigress’ Lunge!”
The shirt that I was wearing suddenly ripped apart, my body bulged with huge muscles that had veins on them and I quickly fixed my stance, I held the spear to the right part of my body and leaned towards my left feet, placing the center of my gravity to around the heels of my feet I used it to launch myself and using the momentum I added the strength of my throw.
“KIYAAAK-!!!”
The eagle cried out as the spear on my hand disappeared in the blink of an eye, and went through it’s chest with enough force that the bird got ripped into 2 pieces. The place I was standing on caved in due to the amount of leg power I used and my palms were smoking because of the super fast friction the spear caused.
“Umu. I’m really the son of my dad.”
Umu? What the hell is an umu? Weird, but whatever. I stretched my arms a bit and grabbed the head of the eagle. I tied it and placed it into the bag that I left with Elaine but she-
“Kyaaa~ your roahl haighness, pweasee cover your bhudy~!”
Her nose was bleeding and it was flowing as fast as a waterfall, she had her hands in front of her while she desperately tried to cover me from her eyes using her small hands.
Huh?
I took a look at my body and saw the it was fine, my dad had a bigger body when using the Lionheart Spear Arts but mine was still amateurish. He once told me that the Lionheart Spear Arts, used the energy of the body to compress unwanted muscles and specifically only release it when we were using the art, so since day 1, I was already grinding up muscles, just that the skill allowed me to hide it in plain sight.
“You don’t like big muscles?”
“NO! THE OPPOSITE OF IT ACTUALLY, I LOVE BWIGGGG MUSCLES!”
I still compressed it, she was getting creepy. I took the bag and carried her again after a bit of relaxing, this time I ran with my fastest speed as orange lightning sparks, my father calls them friction from the air due to how much air compresses underneath our feet when we get ready to run or when we speed up. I don’t understand how it works, so no, I never asked why it was orange.
“Why are you licking my chest?”
“Guhe?! NO! IT WAS BECAUSE YOUR TOO FAST! FAST!”
She licked me several times more before we got home. A dog lady, I let her be since it was harmless and our dogs did it often, I don’t mean it that way. She was my new personal magician after all~

As soon as we approached the gate, the prince finally let me down and we walked the rest of the way back. The 2 grumpy guards at the entrance wanted to stop me from getting in but I showed them my witch badge, yes despite my age, I was an official witch~ Ohoho~ I was a talented scrub if you…will…
“Why are you frowning again?”
The prince, the entire time I was with him was smiling, I’ve seen countless fake smiles but his was genuine through and through but I wonder if it didn’t tire his mouth? Well, he is a demigod I guess. After we got in, or after he fought with the guards a little. He brought me to the…noble district. I already knew what was going to happen, nobles are nobles.
“Oh Mrs. Atteberry! Here, I got some fruits on the way back!”
The first thing he did was greet a woman with a very glamorous dress, it was beautiful such things were the wardrobe of every nobles. The woman took it from him and gave me a very quick gaze before greeting the prince.
“Welcome back, how was your hunt? Did you finish it nicely?”
“Yep! I even found myself a new friend!”
“Oh? I see, a commoner?”
The prince looked at me and smiled as he waved his arms in front of the noble.
“A witch! She can fire off big cool ice spears! It was amazing!”
“A witch?! Th-…I see a… very talented witch, no?”
She looked at me with twitching eyes, I sighed as I spoke to her with respect. I knew my place in society and the moment the prince brings me to the castle, I better prepare myself.
“Hello, lady Atteberry. My name is Elaine Reni, an official witch.”
“Oh. okay. Please go on now, I still have things to do.”
The prince nodded, still with the same smile and moved through the noble district slowly, did he actually want to see me suffer? How can he not notice the gazes of disdain at me? Maybe, he’s doing this to…Ah, how foolish of me. He’s just like them but hides it well, huh? I hate this, I’m being tricked but I can’t refuse anymore, he’s the prince after all. It was only a matter of time and finally we encountered one, an actual mage plus he had a kid with him, older than us.
“Hello Mr. Eason! How are you, Kyle?”
His vision first scanned me but cringed after a good look, he made a disgusted grunt and shooed me away. I looked at the prince who was talking to a nearby man too, is this their plan? Shitty nobles. Pretend your talking to someone as the mages condemn me huh?
“What’s a flea witch doing in here? We’ll get cooties”
The older kid said that with a ‘kneel before me’ tone, he went to me and grabbed my hair, he wanted to push me but did not do so, the prince was still doing a good job playing his ‘I’m distracted’ act, ahh. I hate this, I hate them all, I still have to bite through the shame later at his house. God, what a bad day. No human- nah he’s a demigod, so nothing in this city is good.
“Let’s throw her out dad?”
The older mage gave me one last look before nodding, he went and approached the prince and I expected it-
“Let go of her or you’ll find your hand unable to cast magic for the rest of your life”
Huh?
The prince who was always smiling didn’t even look back but his voice echoed to anyone within a few meters of him, what’s he going about? An act to look good? Hyp-
“Oh, why are you with this witch? I bet your royal highness didn’t know right? It’s not good to threaten us like that, she’s just a witc-”
He sighed and finally went to look towards us, he had a smile stuck to his face and the mage was also smiling he looked towards his son and nodded before he started dragging me, I wanted to say it hurts but it was pointless rig-
“AEGHHHH!?!”
A shrilling shout reverberated, before it was a few meters of the prince but now it was all the way to the entrance of the city, this earned the look of some knights and they went to the our location but what they saw and what I saw was…
“You sure don’t like to listen huh?”
An emotionless voice, a voice full of despise and a tint of killing intent was directed at the boy who’s hands were now, detached from his wrists. In front of me was the prince holding a paper folded into a somewhat sharp shape, the paper was eerie and a black aura coated it as blood dripped from it. He sighed and threw the paper to the left foot of the older mage, it lodged itself deep enough that if it was aimed at his head, it’d go through to the other side without a doubt, but me? My thoughts were just one, little thing.
‘He might be different’
