Ecuperating - Chapter 1
Jayne Rice—Jayne Rice lost her husband to a heart attack in 1996. She then started writing novels, completing 10 best sellers. Never shy about letting someone know where she stands on any issue, Jayne soon finds herself embroiled in the affairs of Lodge 16, a band of heroes from American wars all the way back to WWII.
Jayne had weighed in at over 250 pounds when she lost her husband. She went on a crash diet and bodybuilding program that showed her true colors in six months: A beautiful blonde with perfect, though just a bit oversized, breasts. She stood five eight and weighed 125 pounds. A favorite pony tail belied her age. Now 35, she looked more like 25. Clear skin and a ready smile endeared her to her many friends. Not one to hold relationships with men for very long after losing her first true love, she had found that her best friends were women in the long run.
She ran afoul of Lodge 16 early on with her research for novel number 11, but soon became their greatest ally, assisting them in their struggle against terrorists. Her adventures as a Starship Commander begin with The Star Traders. It may never end, for she will be cloned as a Guardian..
Eric Tanner, the ElderEric Tanner was born in 1924 in Seney, Michigan, a wide spot in Highway M- 28 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. His father took the family north to Grand Marais where he started a commercial fishing business. Lake Superior was good to the family for many years, until Eric’s father died at the wheel of his fishing tug in 1938, leaving a wife and Eric, a 14 year old son. Eric’s mother died a month later and Eric left Grand Marais for good.
Eric was a large boy with coal black hair and a mature beard, even at that young age. He shipped out of New Jersey on a freighter bound for England with war supplies, making himself useful with his vast knowledge of navigation acquired on mighty Lake Superior. The captain of the Sea Princess made Eric first mate on that first voyage, and when the captain was lost overboard on the second crossing, Eric found himself captain; at the tender age of 15.
He rescued a German Sub crew in the middle of the Atlantic and made friends with the sub commander who provided him with refugees for him to bring to the States for a sum. He and the German sub commander made a fortune in that war.
After the war, Eric purchased a large tract of land near Seney and established a band of heroes called Lodge 16. The heroes raised their families there.
In 1947 Eric and two of his friends found a portal to ten other universes identical to Earth. Their own adventures begin
Hans Gruber—A German sub captain who befriended Eric Tanner during WWII. A relatively small man, only five eight, the blonde German followed Eric to the U.S. near the end of WWII and settled with his family in Lodge 16.
Ted Sobieski—Ted is a small man, five four. He landed with the marines on Makin Island in the Pacific in March of 1942. Stranded there for some time, he terrorized the Japanese for months, making them believe he was eating his kills. He was rescued over a year later having killed 432 japs on the island. Along with Eric and Hans, Ted is one of the only living survivors of Lode 16.
Eric Tanner the Younger. The son of Eric the Elder and husband of Captain Rice, Eric the younger was born in 1970. He was not as large as his father but had a muscular stature. Eric the Younger was devastatingly handsome. His hair had turned white due to an illness when he was 15 and it swept back around his ears. He, too, had a ready smile, though he was a very serious young man. His blue eyes flashed brightly when he was angered, which, fortunately for his enemies, was seldom.
And the adventure continues
