Electrify - Volume 1 Chapter 15
This morning was just like all the other mornings, I woke up took a shower, got dressed and headed out. Save for the fact that I was on a different planet with a golden tooth brush and a golden toilet to relieve my self on. I was still in shock that they used gold to this point where it was basically worthless. A palace guard escorted me to the dining area where there were the same people with the addition of a very old one eyes man in golden armor. I would have been more impressed but after shitting on gold, it becomes significantly less appealing.
“Father, this is my friend Maxwell. He is also known as electro.” Thor introduced me and I curtly nodded at the king before taking the seat at the table.
“Tell me, boy. What brings you to Asgard?” He asked taking some food.
“Sight seeing, well being of a human and general doubt about Asgard being as friendly as it seems.” I said taking some food as well.
“Hoh, a little cur as yourself.” He scoffed and ate his food.
“Father, he meant no disrespect.” Thor said in placating manner.
“Boy, he did and I can see why. He is quiet intelligent.” Odin said with a smile.
“So, Maxwell have your arrangements pleased you?” Frigga asked.
“They were quiet nice.” I replied.
“Thor, here talks greatly of your skill with lightning and swords.” Odin said.
“I am quiet alright with both.” I said.
“He is more than quiet alright. He can probably take on Frandal.” Thor said and I looked at him. “Frandal is my friend and he known for his skill with a sword in all the nine realms.” Thor said with pride.
“Have you bodied your hands, boy?” Odin asked with his gaze directly on me.
“Yes, many time.” I said and saw the look of horror on Jane’s face.
“But you are a hero. How could you kill someone?” Jane asked in a low voice.
“Child, a hero is a fable, only existing in dreams and legends.” Odin said in a chiding tone.
“But people of earth look up to him.” Jane said.
“And I have never asked for that. Jane, there are time in my line of work where you need to decide if the world is a better place without a person in it. More often, that choice leads to a death.” I said and watched Jane digest the weight of my words.
“The boy, is correct. He is only a hero to people who see him as one. Between, the five of us there is enough blood on our hands to fill up an ocean.” Odin said as we continued our meal.
“Jane, you must realize, criminals need to be punished and wars demand blood.” Frigga consoled Jane.
“I am sorry but I need a moment.” Jane said and left the room, with Thor trying to cheer her up.
“Was that planned?” I asked.
“It was improvised, but it may lead to a satisfactory outcome.” Odin said as he continued his meal.
“Thor may not respect you much after he realizes the deception.” I said.
“To be scorned by your own blood. Such is the fate of someone with a larger sight.” He said.
“Spoken like a true king.” I said and nodded.
“Hoh, is that a bit of respect that bled through?” Frigga smiled at me.
“You may have done me a favor. Ask what you need?” Odin said.
“A better sword and some unique flame for Amatsu.” I said and saw Odin’s face twist in rage.
“You dare speak of that beasts name in front of me.” Odin spoke through gritted teeth.
“Uhh, the flaming serpent that I tamed yesterday.” I said and looked at Frigga in confusion. “What beast are you talking about?” I asked.
“you may need to change the name. Amatsu, the very name brings bad omens.” Frigga said and placed a hand on her husband’s shoulder.
“Fine, the flame is easily accessible, but you said a better blade. Where is your current blade?” Odin asked with a sigh.
“The blade in in my pouch, I can show you ager the meal.” I said and the rest of the meal was eaten in silence.
We headed to a courtyard and Odin gestured me to show him. I pulled the blade out from the pouch and handed him the sword. He removed it from the sheath and swung it a few time before acting the plasma blade.
“This toy has a nice gimmick but refrain from calling it a sword. I have a dwarf coming in a few hours, I will ask him for a sword.” Odin said and vanished in a blinding flash of light.
“He is an intense man.” I said and Frigga laughed.
“That he is and much more.” He smiled and asked for the sword.
“Hmm, the metal used is good but there are far two many irregularities and the balance is nonexistent. Let me guess, the maker of this sword has never used a single sword or knows how to make them.” Frigga said.
“Yes, but he never meant for it to be used. He gave it to me in a time of crisis and didn’t bother to take it back.” I said with a nod and looked over at the Pillar.
“Fiore, come out child.” Frigga said with a shake of her head.
Out of the shadows, a red head with a black hood and a bunch of dagger attached to her torso appeared and bowed to Frigga, before looking abashed.
“Fiore, how many time have I said that you need to more precise with the suppression spell.” Frigga said as she shook her head.
“Sorry, All mother, I will be better.” She said in a song like voice.
“This is Fiore, she is training to be a huntress but is not that good at following simple commands.” Frigga said with a chuckle.
“I almost had it this time.” She said as she folded her hands.
“Almost, is never enough, but I still commend you for making it this far.” Frigga said as she patted her head and looked at me. “She is the same age you are, yet she stands taller than many people hundred times older than her.” Frigga smiled with pride in her tone. “This is Maxwell Dillon, a person from Midgard.” Frigga introduced me.
I nodded at her but she ignored me and looked at the sword in Frigga’s hand. She took it gently away from her and nearly threw it away in disgust, but at the last moment stopped herself.
“This merely looks like a sword, but what could I expect from a mortal.” She said and threw the sword at me.
I caught it and put it away in my pouch. I wanted to give her a bit of my mind but I choose to let it slide. Frigga had a frown on her face and she looked at me.
‘Maxwell, how good of a fighter are you.’ She asked me mentally.
‘I hold up fine.’ I said with confidence.
“Fiore, spar with him.” Frigga said and moved away.
“But all mother, he will surely die.” Fiore said but she still pulled out a sword.
“That will be unacceptable, but accidents do happen in a spar.” Frigga said and threw me a golden sword.
I caught it and swung it around for a good measure. The sword felt balanced and firm, it was a good blade.
“Last chance mortal, yield quickly. There won’t be another chance.” She said and loosely held her sword.
“I would offer some luck, but you seem like you will not appreciate the gesture.” I said with a chuckle.
Fiore, face turned into a mocking grin and she charged at me. The ground cracked beneath her feet and she was swinging for my face in a tenth of a second. I raised my perception but didn’t increase my speed. I simply moved out of the way just in time for the blade to pass right by my nose. My sword was just below her neck, so I raised it a few centimeters just enough for it to graze her skin. Her eyes widened at the cut and she hurriedly jumped back.
“You will pay for this.” She said and charged at me again but now with a proper stance and her sword held by both her hands.
I simply dodged her strikes and kept moving into her blind spot, however my speed was kept at a peak human level so she always had time to react to sword strikes. She looked at me with rage but her training would always kept her in check and didn’t allow her to cause any mistakes for me to exploit. We danced around each other till, Frigga clapped her hands and broke us out of our rhythm.
“Now, I believe you owe this man and apology.” Frigga said and Fiore tensed up.
“My queen, I will do so only because you asked. If I had used my full strength and abilities, this would not be a battle but a slaughter.” Fiore said.
“Hmm, it would be a slaughter, but not the one you expect.” Frigga said and nodded at me.
“Fiore, use all your abilities and strengths, you may not have another chance.” I said with a smile.
However, instead on being enraged Fiore, raised her free hand and the vegetation around the courtyard began to move in a rapid fashion. They grew and formed into humanoid creatures with hammers, axes and spears. A group for vines grew huge thorns and formed a wall behind her and a few roots grew around my ankles to keep me in place.
“As you say, mortal.” She said pulled out a bow and used an arrow formed by the plants.
She drew her bow and shoot her arrow straight at my chest. I sped up and used the arms of damned to break free from the roots that held me. I then walked over to the girl and picked her up from the spot and placed here in the spot where she had trapped me. I charged all the new plants and trees with plenty of lightning and slowed down. I waited for her to realize what I had done and stopped the arrow before it could pierce her. Her expression changes to that of horror as all her plants, vines and wooden soldiers burst into flames and the arrow she had shot almost his her.
I looked back at Frigga and saw here eyes wide with surprise. I turned back at Fiore and for an instant used my electric vision on her. I looked around for any residual damage from the whiplash but didn’t find any. That was amazing to be honest. I could not have done this move on a human, they would have turned to paste due to the sheer impacts they would feel. I had used minor telekinesis to spread out the force and even reinforce the tissue but the few rabbits I tried this move on were quiet literally turned to paste.
“How?” Fiore said as she fell to the ground.
“Not all of us mortals are weak, and even if we are weak, that is still no reason for the scorn you have for us.” I said and walked towards Frigga. “I am not even the strongest human.”
Frigga and I walked out of the courtyard towards the main palace. She didn’t say much but I could feel that she was planning something.
“I would doubt there will be that many humans above your strength.” Frigga said with a chuckle.
“Maybe.” I kept my answer vague.
“The girl was found in the Garden of Eden, we found her inside a golden apple. Every believes her to be the daughter of Idunn but her strength is closer to the royal bloodline.” She said with a smile. “Maybe she is the daughter of Idunn and Baldur, my youngest born.”
“May be he found Idunn but did no longer want to leave?” I suggested.
“Maybe, she killed my son and used his body to form a tree.” Frigga said in a cold tone. “That we will never know, I have many doubts and my hope to my son dwindles with each year. However, Fiore was raised by me and Odin. Thor sees her as his niece.”
“That is good but how does that concern me.” I asked.
“Fiore has always been a proud child, she holds herself differently than most. I believe that there is a threat coming and I clouds my vision, I can no longer see myself standing with my sons. I may not be there for her when the time comes and there is not enough time to allow her to mature a gracefully and gradually like Thor and Baldur. She needs to see the world beyond ours and she would need a guide.” She said and stopped to see me rooted in my place.
“Surely, you can assign many Asgardians to her and make many great people beg to be her mentors. I am the same age as her, why would you want me? And more importantly, why would I agree?” I asked.
“Because you feel like a man of honor and you would be willing to make a trade.” She said with a smile.
“Wow, let’s see what you have to offer.” I said and looked at her.
“I offer you a weapon, the one league with Gungnir and Mjolnir. A weapon fit for a God.” She said with a smile.
“You do realize that Odin had offered me a weapon as well.” I said but I did want such a weapon.
It would be ridiculous not to want such a weapon. I have seen Thor’s hammer destroy buildings without loosing any momentum what so ever.
“Then tell me what will be a suitable offer for what I ask.” She said.
“You can offer me nothing. What you ask is too great of a responsibility. I barely have my life straight and I cannot in good conscience allow your grand daughter into my life.” I said and continued my way towards the palace.
The palace was busy, people were running around doing and carrying all sorts of things. I followed Jane’s tracker and approached a huge room where she was kept in a glass chamber. A huge man with a gruff voice was commanding the nearby Asgardians to bring him many things.
“There is no need to worry, Jane is safe in Sindri’s hands. He is one of the finest tinkerers in the whole universe.” Thor said as he stood beside me.
“What is all the rush?” I asked.
“While father believes that the Dark Elves are dead, I believe that there is no harm in being over prepared. So, I gave a war command.” Thor said.
We saw Sindri work over Jane for a few hours but he gave up and walked over to us. Sindri was about 3 meters tall and that was because he hunched a lot. He wore a shiny spotless armor with many enchantments weaved into it.
“Thor, I will have to apologize, the aether is embedded deeply inside Jane and it is also intertwined with her life force. I c not force it out without killing her.” He said and shook his head.
“Then we must find another way.” Thor said fiercely.
“While, we do that how do you go about forcefully removing the Aether?” I asked a felt Thor’s glare.
“If you simply kill her, the aether will emerge and stay rooted at the corpse till another host walks by. I don’t have a device to contain such an object. Human bodies are not a suitable container either, Jane will die in a week if nothing is done.” He said. “If a dark elf extracts it, the aether is willingly leave and her body will be un harmed, but that is far too great a risk to even attempt.” He said and took out a tissue.
“So, how bad is it?” Jane said as he walked toward us.
“It is fine, we have found a few ways to extract it but all of them require time.” Thor said and took Jane away.
No one noticed but Jane had lost her attitude towards Thor. She almost pulled her hand away when he reached for her.
“That boy, will lose her.” Sindri said.
“If is hasn’t already lost her.” I added and felt him nod.
“I must leave now, Odin has me doing a weapon for a human it seems.” Sindri said.
“Oh, well if you are looking for that human, it’s me.” I said with a smile.
“Hmm, well, I still need to confirm. Follow me.” Sindri said and began to walk.
Although, he said that he need to confirm, he was already taking observations on the way. By now, he had used over 30 different pair of lenses to view me and watched me walk. We entered the main Royal Court and Odin was seated at the throne. There were nearly hundred soldiers stood on either side. Sindri bowed lightly and so did I. It was necessary for me to do so because if Odin feels that he was publicly disrespected, he would have to act just for appearances.
“Is this the human?” Sindri asked and Odin nodded.
“Give him a fine weapon of his desire, but run it by me before making it.” He aid and waved us away.
We left for a workshop that was properly retrofitted to accommodate someone of Sindri’s stature. It was probably kept here for this specific reason. To provide a proper workspace for dwarves.
“Tell me about your self first. Your name, hobbies, hates, your life, and your dreams.” Sindri said and pulled out a note book.
“Why?” I asked and he sighed.
“If I am to make a personal weapon, I need to know the person I am working with.” He said and looked at me.
I began to narrate the story of my life, how it was before I was put into this body and how it changed after I arrived. For obvious reasons, I kept the part about transmigrating, but I didn’t leave out my hobbies from previous life and this life. Sindri asked a few questions about how the change in me was too drastic but I simply said that my powers changed my mindset a lot. He didn’t try to probe further but didn’t look satisfied with my answer as well. We had this session for about 6 hours, and by time it ended it was well past noon.
“So, show me this sword.” He said and I gave it to him.
He pulled out the sword and gave it a single swing before he hurriedly gave the sword to me. He had a look of disgust and by that I mean he was almost about to puke. Tony will be royally pissed if he ever finds out about it.
“That is a nice piece of technology fashioned to look like a sword, and that is where it stands. Looks like one but isn’t.” He sighed and looked at me. “It has a good metal as base, the kinetic metal. It is rare even for me, I have only seen it a few thousand times in all my life.”
“Do you know what it does?” I asked and he nodded.
“It creates a magnetic field to house the plasma that coat the edge.” Sindri said and still shook his head. “It has a very low power supply, you power it with your electricity, don’t you?” He asked and I nodded. “I have a base picture for the blade but it would be costly. Thankfully, you don’t need to worry about that.” Sindri said with a chuckle.
“Can you tell me its cost in kilograms of gold.” I said and he looked at me.
“Hmm, about 5000 Tons.” He said and laughed. That is for the materials. The cost for my works if far steeper.”
I thanked the generous king in my heart. 5000 tons, I would need to rob the reserve bank and much more for that amount. I sighed and felt slightly envious of Thor.
