Electrify - Volume 1 Chapter 18
At the base, I was on a call trying to explain how a chuck cheese had been destroyed to Fury and by the sounds of it, he was getting angrier the more I explained.
“We have an Asgardian Princess on our hands and you didn’t report this?” He said.
“I did report it. What are you talking about? Didn’t you ready report?” I asked and he grunted.
” ‘I have been give responsibility for a minor due to a deal for a weapon.’ Tell me Dillon. Where the f.u.c.k does it mention the word Asgardian Princess with the ability to control plants?” He yelled out.
“Oh, that part was a need to know basis.” I said and Fury sighed.
“I am the f.u.c.k.i.n.g director, I decide what gets the need to know stamp. Was this the part of the dead as well?” He asked.
“I can’t confirm that but I take full responsibility for the fiasco.” I said and he hung up.
I glared at the Princess and she was looking away with blush on her cheeks. At least, she had the decency to be embarrassed after sprouting a huge oak that destroyed the pizza place. I swear she was actually sad about destroying a good place to eat that the actual distraction of someone’s property.
“Is this how it is in Asgard? Destroy someone’s only source of livelihood to satisfy their rage?” I yelled at her after transferring the required funds to the owner.
“It was an accident. I didn’t mean to destroy anything.” She said.
“Accidentally destroy? Listen here your pretentious brat. I may accept accidentally hurting a criminal in a fit of rage, but accidentally loosing your powers and destroying an innocents life work? How f.u.c.k.i.n.g dare you?” I yelled as I let a small amount of electricity crackle across my body.
“It was not my intention. If it is compensation you want I will give the man some gold.” She said with a bit of rage through her teeth.
“No, what you will do now is simple. You will go undercover into the construction company and work at that site till it is rebuild. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?” I yelled. “Remember, if there are even rumors about your super powers or strength, I will make your life miserable.” I said and walked away.
I flew out to the city and looked over it, my rage was not quelled a bit but there was nothing I could do for that. So, I fell into a meditative trance and looked inside myself. I was not usually this angry or susceptible to emotional outbursts, but her words had set of a chain reaction. I never had the luxury of being out of control for a while now, from the moment I stepped into his body, I was always struggling to be precise with what I wanted, so as not to hurt anyone accidentally. What she said and triggered some pent up frustrations about this and I reacted to it badly. I floated in the sky above the clouds, letting the emotions flow as I stood still and observed them. For hours, I stood still and when I finally opened my eyes, I saw that my powers were slightly different than before. The felt smoother, and more in touch with myself. I let out a bolt of lightning and instead of jagged and disturbed, it came out like a straight line. I controlled it, made various shaped out of it, elongated it and shrunk it. I called it back and held it in my hand. I then threw it a bird the was flying by it was evaporated from existence the very next second. I called the residual anoint of lightning back and absorbed it. Well shit, if this is how strong it was, then I could not used it for stopping humans any more.
I pulled out the tiniest amount of electricity from my fingertips and it resembled a normal erratic lightning. I felt to a mugging and poke the mugger to the side. He yelp and jumped up, from the shock, however when he looked at me, he gave and turned himself in. I sighed in relief and flew back to the base. I turned on the shared vision and saw that Fiore was crying in her room. I let her be and went to bed after feeding Frost.
The next morning, I was up and practicing with my new power when I got a message about a string of assassinations. At first it seemed random and unplanned but soon the connection came. They were all innocent people likely to commit a murder based on a social media algorithm that Harvard University was working on. I was an open source project done by a bunch of post Graduates for their Masters. Most like someone got a hold of it and began to pay Vigilante. I moved a few resources on it and went about my day.
I sent some time perfecting the Toths eye spell and reading about enchanting. The rest of the time I was flying handling a few of Shields problems in micromanagement, which Fury was thankful for. He even sent me a few crates of whisky for reducing his paper work. I found that many of our resources were flowing toward A.I and shield Carriers, while many of our agents were no longer filing reports or doing the assignments which was leading to far more problem. For example, there was a report about a slave prostitution ring in Barbados but since no one attended to that, it became an accessory to a terrorist weapons deal which lead to around 500 death in Argentina.
My began to assign and move resources across the globe for better results, and it improved the situation for around 2 weeks before people started questioning. While the questions were welcome by me, what was not welcome was the fact that they were coming from higher ups trying to reduce the effectiveness of my set up. Fury took most of the heat while I kept doing what I was currently doing.
On the other hand, Fiore had successfully joined the company and was working on the site. She would avoid me at the base and everywhere else but she was working near full time at the site. There were a few complaints about male worker being negatively affected by such a beauty but I let those slide. The ETA to the completion was about 2 months so it was not too bad. I saw a security footage from the site and saw a drastic improvement in the temper, she shrugged of the glances but she made official complaints if someone tried to slap her butt or say something too excessive. I decided that is was finally time to talk, mainly because I was heading to Nidavallir tomorrow. I showed up as soon as she had entered the cafeteria at the base and took a seat with her.
“You have improved drastically in the past few weeks.” I said and she glared at me without saying a word. “I am sorry for being angry at you but I will stand by what I have said. I will however apologize for making you feel bad.”
“It is fine, I realize that I was a bit arrogant.” She said and looked at her plate. “I am sorry for acting the way I did.”
“You did great and if you want to stop working there it will be fine.” I said and stood up. “Also, I am going to Nidavallir, want me to take you too?” I asked and she nodded.
We met in the cafeteria the next morning and headed to Nidavallir. I saw that Fiore was actually very happy to be here. She went ahead and walked into the inner regions without care and stood beside a huge cauldron. I walked beside her and saw the beauty of the scene. For what could only be described as a Dyson Sphere, came out a huge beam of energy that was heating up the cauldron. There was deafening sounds of explosion, hammering and machinery at work. I felt a huge person that came behind us and touched Fiore.
“Eitri, how has it been? How are you?” Fiore said and hugs the giant dwarf.
“Ho, I am fine little lady. How are you?” He said in a booming voice.
“I am fine as well, I am on personal journey too.” She said.
“Hoh, I remember it like it was yesterday when you running around trying jump Odin.” Eitri said and laughed. “Hoh, who are you?” He finally asked me.
“I am Maxwell.” I said.
“Hoh, Sindri said something about a weapon, he was working on.” Eitri looked at me and his eyes glowed for a bit before he laughed. “Not only are you connected to an energy dimension, but also have contracts with a Fire serpent and Frost Wraith. You might just be able to use what he made.” He said with a laugh.
“Don’t be alarmed Maxwell, Eitri is the king of the dwarves, is insight is vast.” Fiore said but that didn’t actually calm me down.
Just how many people can see through me with just a glance? I grumbled about bullshit overpowered aliens and wizards. Eitri took us to Sindri’s workshop and lead us in. Unlike the rest of the station, this workshop was quiet a sight. Gold, silver, bronze and jewels inlaid into the walls and Pillar, while all the equipment neatly placed. I saw a bar placed on a pedestal, it was black and it was lined with fine circuitry which looked like it was made of silver. I was beautiful and looked regal.
“Lord Eitri, why are you here?” Sindri said from behind us.
“I just bought these two here, because they were wandering around the main furnace.” Eitri said.
“Ah, Maxwell. It is good that your are here.” Sindri said and walked over to the bar.
He picked it up with a bunch of tongs and presented it to me. I removed my glove and took it. However, the instant I touched it, I was instantly transported to the lightning realm. I saw an unimaginable amount of electricity being channeled in to the rod before it was launched out of the realm. I arrived back in my body and saw that everything around me was charred black and the immediate 3 meters around me were a molten mess. I held the bar in my hands and knew what it was. It was a 2 meter long Bo staff, two 1meter long shorts staff, two 1meter long tantos and finally, the most power full of all one huge single edges sword. I can channel electricity through all its form for a surprise while the long sword forms edge would be sharper if more electricity was canned through it. I channel a bit of lightning through the staff and it glowed in blue light. I hit the ground with it a it formed a tiny crater where it landed. I admired for a moment more and split into two while strapping it to my back.
“Boy, you destroyed one of my best workshops.” Eitri yelled from behind me.
“I am sorry, but there is no way I can repay any of the damages.” I said while rubbing my forehead.
“I suppose it was my fault to forgo this possibility in my haste.” Sindri sighed. “it’s name is Abyss. A blade capable of cutting everything, neutralizing magic and hiding its wielder. It will grow sharper and powerful as more energy is supplied to it. Remember, it is a weapon for the gods and it will grow with the wielder.” Sindri said and sighed.
“Well, lad. Get out of my station before you wreak it even more.” Eitri said and slapped my back.
I opened a portal to earth and stepped though while Fiore hugged Eitri for a last time before coming through. I removed my armor and went to the gym with Abyss. I pulled out the two swords and began to practice the required forms and moves. I noticed that the swings would leaves a tiny trail of electricity crackling in the air before disappearing. I pulled the swords back in their sheaths and used those and short staffs for a while. In this form abyss had the ability to amplify impacts, so if I hit something with 1kg of force they would keel as though they were it by 10kg. I joined the two and swung the long staff once, before stopping. This one had a charm for unstoppable momentum which meant that if I can keep a good flow going, I could literally destroy mountain. Then finally, I unsheathed the huge sword. Unlike what I expected, it was actually removable from a short dear motion. I supplied it a bit of electricity but immediately kept it back. That was absurdly powerful, if i had slashed with that much power, it might have cut through the base and accidentally hit something.
I did the only thing I could do in that situation and practiced something else. After a while I checked out Fiore’s locations and I was surprised by what I saw. She saw at a local pub with some other women drinking away. She was really enjoying their company, even making jokes but I wasn’t really sure about that last one. I really like seeing her like this, unknowingly I was smiling. I checked out the new assignments I had given out but there was a problem there. The higher ups were hell bent on limiting my power in the agency, going as far ahead to lead CBI or homeland instead of working here. Fury was simply claiming that he was the one running the reforms and assignments but they all knew that it was me.
At Kamartaj, I had finally gotten a breakthrough with my spell and for a very brief window it was as if I was seeing color for the first time. I laughed and thought for a brief while why I hadn’t left this shit behind and there were even a few plans for taking over shield. Thankfully, it had passed in exactly 15 minutes before I realised something. The spell amplified my creativity and the cost was lower inhibitions and morality. I sighed and decided that I cannot have this perfected and engraved as I had planned. I was far too powerful to be left with that much freedom, this state of mind was perfect for me and I didn’t want to improve on it. As my resolve strengthened I felt the the power of the spell had receded.
I went to the cave and pulled out the miniaturization problem with the arc reactor. I tried to solve it without using the spell for an hour before I gave up and activated the spell. I looked at the problem and ideas flowed, I picked up a pen and wrote down a equations and wrote down a few codes. The spell passed in 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes like before, it was a reasonable price for keeping myself sane. I looked back at the formulae and equations and my eyes widened. What this spell has accomplished was a feat that I was not able to do despite month of work and put into it. The reactors size was reduced to the size of a mini fridge. The was even a minor reduction in the burnout of fuel and the power out put was staggering. I sighed and began to procure some key components.
An industrial grade 3d printed, a few ch.i.p.sets to control the power out put and about 50 grams of nuke grade plutonium. Huh, we have this shit lying around in like every base. A few days later, I had setup the reactor and only need to give it a Jumpstart. I put both my hands on the terminals I designed and began to pour in electricity in droves. It input reached the optimal amount as I was almost out of juice. I fell o my knees panting and saw the device glowing in bright blue light. I used it to charge myself up and the reactor didn’t even show a significant blip in power output. I sighed in admiration and put a radiation shield around it just to stop any minor leaks. With that done it used it to power the cave and the freezer for the Extremis virus. As I was working close to the virus, Amatsu was becoming restless. I let him poke out of the tattoo for a bit and he looked at the vials hungrily. I thought about not giving him the virus due to the concern about him exploding, but realised the situation it picked him up in. I had Amatsu lower his temrature as much as possible and felt him the liquid in the Vials it he was satisfied. He hand nearly a tenth of all the vials I had on hand before he burped and lazily crawled back into the tattoo.
I removed the cave dependency on the city grid completely and undid all the changed I had done to the subway line before leaving the cave. I went back to the base and saw Fiore trying to play a game on the phone and sat down next to her.
“How was your day?” I asked her and she looked at me like I was growing another head.
“It was rather good.” She said and looked at her phone.
“I see you are still working on that construction site.” I said and she looked at me with narrow eyes.
“Yeah, I quiet like working there.” She said. “Is that a problem?”
“No. By the congratulations on finding a few friends.” I said as I was stood up to leave.
“Why don’t I ever see you with friends?” She asked me.
“I only have one and now, two if I consider you.” I said. “Peter will love to meet you.”
With that I left, realizing that I don’t have any friends beside Peter. I don’t think Miles or any of the mutant even considered me a human to begin with. How was I supposed to have friends? I sighed at the sad reality of my situation and decided to put it at the back of my mind. I was about to look into any new developments in the Shield situation when Peter called me.
“Dude, we need to meet up now.” Peter said but her sounded scared.
The f.u.c.k, I have seen that guy bench around 30tons what has him scared.
“How private?” I asked.
“Straight to grave.” He answered and I left all the electronic at the base and flew to him location.
He was in a secluded corner of the Central Park wearing civilian clothes. He was just standing there looking at a bunch of Ducks as they feed on bread.
“Yeah.” I said standing beside him.
“I have uncovered something big. Like super huge.” He said.
“I would think so.” I nodded.
“Do you know why the spider bite gave me power the way it did?” He asked.
“Radiation?” I asked and he shook his head.
“Yeah, that and a few other things.” Peter said and looked at me. “Do ou know that Miles only has a few years at best?” He said I looked at him.
“Can’t be. He is a fit as you.” I said and Peter shook his head.
“The radiation that altered his genes also hurt them beyond repair. He will die, at best we could prong his life by a bit.” Peter said and looked back at the ducks. “We both expected that the radiation would cycle out of his system without much problem like it did for me but we were wrong. There was already something else in my system that helped me. It was the supersoldier serum.”
“The f.u.c.k. How did that…..” I remember the suspicious circ.u.mstances of his parents death, they were both scientists.
They died in a plane crash, with no bodies or debris recovered. It was the only time when Peter could have been injected with it, when he was a baby. A f.u.c.k.i.n.g baby. Else, with his intellect, Peter would have remembered. I put a hand on his shoulder and he sighed.
“How f.u.c.k.i.e.d up is that? I know for a fact that what they injected me was not the real serum but a version of it and they decided that I would be a f.u.c.k.i.n.g experiment.” Peter said and punched a nearby tree, destroying the truck in half.
“You can’t possibly confirm that, my be something went sideways and you were accidentally exposed.” I said, yeah right, even I don’t believe that. “How did you stumble onto this exactly?”
“Aunt may, gave me his stuff from before and there was research material that pointed to this. There was also a mention of exotic spider and use of their venom some where in the research.” Peter said and he shook with rage.
“The formula. Is it safe?” I asked and he nodded.
“It is in a drive, I didn’t open it because of obvious reasons.” He said, and looked at me. “I also found a badge.” He said.
“Shield?” I asked and he nodded. “Peter, I will look into this.”
“First, we know that Shield is infiltrated, then the Scepter fiasco and now this. Max, are you sure that we are on the right side of justice here.” Peter asked me. “How do I go back and put the badge on?”
“Peter, whether we like it or not, Shields connections are necessary for the work we do.” I said. “It’s not like we have taken up some assassinations or corporate missions. We both know that the missions we did affected the world Ina good way.” I said.
“Yeah, yeah. Fine, but you we even have clearance to so this?” Peter said.
“Bitch please. I have same clearance as Fury.” I said with smile and Peter looked shocked.
“The hell dude. When did that happen?” He asked.
“Meh during the last world ending crisis.” I shrugged and we both headed to a local shawarma joint.
