Empty Promises: The Ceo Cunning Bride - Chapter 174
Xiong Jingfei nervously stood outside the metal gate. Then she entered the passcode to open it. There was no one to open the gate for her because she came unannounced. It was still the same passcode she had entered every time she came over to play.
It felt like she was barging in, but she wanted to make a surprise entrance. It was also Xiong Jingfei’s first time meeting ‘her’ with her past memories.
When she got to the house door, even though she knew the passcode to get inside. She chose to ring the doorbell, and the very person Xiong Jingfei came for was the person who opened the door.
Xu Suying’s sleepy eyes widened at their unannounced guest. “Feifei! Is that really you!?”
She pulled Xiong Jingfei in and gave her a tight squeeze.
Xiong Jingfei couldn’t see Xu Suying’s face, but her shaking shoulders were evident enough. It was rare to see Xu Suying cry, and this was one of those rare moments.
“I got a call from Yang Zheyan. He was asking about your whereabouts, and when I asked why, he wouldn’t tell me anything!” Xu Suying wiped away her tears with her pajamas sleeves. “I tried calling you and went to places you could possibly be at, but you weren’t there. Where did you disappear off to?”
Xiong Jingfei thought she would cry or feel sad at the sight of Xu Suying. Instead, she felt it was nostalgia to see Xu Suying acting like this.
“What am I doing crying out here?” Xu Suying cried and pulled Xiong Jingfei inside the house. She slammed the door shut. “It’s all your fault! Why aren’t you telling me anything these days? We used to tell each other everything!”
Xu Suying let go of Xiong Jingfei and began looking for something. She mumbled, “Oh, how can I forget. P-paper… Where are the pens?”
Apparently, Yang Zhyean didn’t mention the fact that Xiong Jingfei got her voice back. It was just like him.
Xiong Jingfei wanted to stop her, but it didn’t look like she was going to stop until she found those two items. It was like a mission Xu Suying gave herself. So, she let Xu Suying complete her mission because she was doing it for her.
She came empty-handed to Xu Suying’s house. No purse, so that means no tablet or anything to communicate with Xu Suying. None of those items were essentials to her anymore.
“Did something happened between you and Yang Zheyan?” Xu Suying quickly placed the papers and pen on Xiong Jingfei’s lap. “Did he hurt you!?”
Hurt me? Xiong Jingfei put the pen and papers on the table. In the past, yes, but in this lifetime, nothing yet. It shouldn’t be long before the past starts repeating itself. It already did up until now.
Xu Suying rolled up Xiong Jingfei’s sleeves to check for any bruise or bruising. She was just like how she used to be in the past. Whenever Xiong Jingfei came back with any dirt on her clothes, she would panic and start checking.
It starts from checking Xiong Jingfei’s head to her arms and then the legs.
Xiong Jingfei stopped Xu Suying after the check on the head. Her head is in the right place, more than it ever was.
She grabbed a couple of kleenexes and wiped away Xu Suying’s tears and snots. In this lifetime, she will be wiping Xu Suying’s tears and not the other way around.
Xiong Jingfei pinched Xu Suying’s nose. Then like she was expecting, Xu Suying immediately pouted and shouted, “Xiong Jingfei!”
At least doing this was a way of stopping Xu Suying from crying. Xiong Jingfei pulled her into a hug. “Xu Song…”
It was a stabbing pain to say that name, but Xiong Jingfei was filled up with a sense of happiness. It was as if those hundreds of years between them never happened.
Xu Suying was still the same person that Xiong Jingfei grew up knowing. The person who raised and cared for her wholeheartedly in both lives. Sadly, she couldn’t return that same care in the past, but this time is going to be different.
The names are different in this lifetime. Be it Xu Song or Xu Suying, they were the same person and her family.
Xu Suying pulled herself away and gasped, “Feifei! Oh, my goodness! Did you… Did you just talk?”
Xiong Jingfei nodded her head, but she realized it would be more convincing to say it. “Yes, Susu.”
“You can really talk again!” Xu Suying screamed and was literally jumping for joy. “S-say something for me again! Anything!”
“Shhh!”
Xiong Jingfei covered Xu Suying’s mouth and pulled her to sit back down. Someone might still be sleeping, and Xu Suying may have just woken them up.
“Su. Su. My. Voice. Returned.” Xiong Jingfei slowly said. Xu Suying was acting like she heard her baby say ‘mom’ for the first time.
Then it wasn’t a surprise to see Xu Suying’s mom run out of the kitchen. Most likely to find out why her daughter was screaming at the crack of dawn. However, when she saw that Xiong Jingfei was with Xu Suying. She sighed and shook her head as if she knew the reason why already.
“Susu! Where is your indoor voice?” Xu Suying’s mom scolded.
“Mom! Mom!” Xu Suying skipped over to her mom. She proudly announces why she was screaming. “Feifei can talk! She can talk again!”
“What!?” Xu Suying’s mom almost dropped the wooden spoon in her hands. Having a quick reflex, she smacked Xu Suying on the arm with it. “Quit finding excuses for your screams.”
“Mom, I’m not making any excuses this time.”
Xu Suying’s mom raised an eyebrow and looked over at Xiong Jingfei. Waiting for her confirmation about her daughter’s claim. Was it an excuse or the truth?
“Susu is telling the truth.” Xiong Jingfei nodded her head. It naturally became a habit of hers whenever she was trying to say yes.
This time, Xu Suying’s mom really dropped the wooden spoon. She covered her mouth, “I knew it… One day, you will get your voice back.”
She ran and hugged Xiong Jingfei, like how Xu Suying did earlier. “Oh, my sweet daughter~! I missed your beautiful voice so much!”
“Mom, who’s the loud one now?” Xu Suying crossed her arms.
“You be quiet!” Xu Suying’s mom retorted. “Feifei, have breakfast with us?”
“You know I could never deny your request~.” Xiong Jingfei snuggled up to Xu Suying’s mom.
While joining in on the Xu family’s breakfast, it was filled with laughter and lots of talking. Shockingly, Xu Cheng also made a surprise visit without knowing Xiong Jingfei was over.
They did ask Xiong Jingfei on how she got her voice back, but she simply answered, “I’m not sure. It suddenly came back one day.”
Xiong Jingfei did answer them half the truth. It really did come back out of nowhere. In her theory, by remembering her past life was an exchange for her voice.
So, they ended breakfast by celebrating the return of Xiong Jingfei’s voice.
Afterward, Xu Suying took Xiong Jingfei up to her bedroom. Spread out on her bed were textbooks and notes as it was almost time for the summer semester exam. She was taking extra classes during the summer to faster her steps in following her dream to become a lawyer.
Xiong Jingfei’s eyes softened at how much work Xu Suying was putting in. To fulfill a promise she made in her past life.
“Susu, I’m going back… Home.” Xiong Jingfei smiled at the word of home. Yin Yuan’s house really became her home, even if it was temporary.
“Why? Stay for the night.” Xu Suying didn’t want to let Xiong Jingfei go back. “I-”
“I will make sure to call you. There is unfinished business that I have to take care of.”
Xiong Jingfei gave Xu Suying another hug. She glanced down at the birthmark at the lower back of Xu Suying’s neck. It wasn’t noticeable, but it did cause Xu Suying to feel uncomfortable about it.
“Susu, thank you for making up my mind.”
“What did I do?” Xu Suying pulled herself away and touched the back of her neck.
Xiong Jingfei only smiled in return.
