Empty Promises: The Ceo Cunning Bride - Chapter 191
“T-then Chanchang!” Li Roulan said although she didn’t come off sounding confident.
Xiong Changchang wasn’t ideal, but it didn’t matter to Li Roulan, which daughter gets married to Yang Zheyan. As long as one of her daughters marries into the Yang family.
“You better not change your mind later.” Xiong Changchang couldn’t even control her excitement.
“Oh, I won’t ~.” Xiong Jingfei chuckled and crossed her legs. It’s more like you shouldn’t change your mind later, Xiong Changchang. Marrying Yang Zheyan and getting yourself into the family isn’t as glamorous as it looked.
“Everyone shut up!” Xiong Guozhi roared and pulled off Li Roulan’s claw on his arms. He went off at the person nearest to him first. “Roulan! How many times must I keep saying it? The Yang family wants it to be Feifei only! You should know that when Yang Jinhai kept mentioning Feifei’s name over and over only.”
Yang Jinhai wasn’t a person to mess around with, and he still holds the title as head of the household. So as long as he is still alive, he will keep his end of the promise.
“B-but… Feifei-”
“Do you take my words as a joke? Didn’t I tell you to get rid of those thoughts!?” Xiong Guozhi’s commander-like voice surfaced and caused Li Roulan to shrink down. “Don’t think that I have no idea what you’re planning.”
Xiong Jingfei’s eyes dropped to the ground to hide her emotions. So, father always knew Li Roulan was scheming something against me but didn’t do anything?
It wasn’t brand new information to Xiong Jingfei, but it was something never confirmed until now.
“Father.”
“What is it now!?” Xiong Guozhi shouted, glaring at Xiong Jingfei. “Your first time coming back home in years, and this is what you bring? Are you-”
“Father, do you love me?” Xiong Jingfei cut off her father and threw in a question that was off-topic but not either. “Even a little, do you?”
She got off from her seat and went closer to Xiong Guozhi. Xiong Jingfei’s heels crushed the shattered crystals as she tried to take his hand. Except, he grunted and pulled away from her.
“Huh?” Li Roulan blurted out loud when she thought she was saying it inside her head. How can Xiong Guozhi not love Xiong Jingfei? Is she blind? Tsk, she should’ve gone blind instead of becoming a mute!
Xiong Jingfei got one thing that her daughters couldn’t get, their father’s love. She doesn’t even realize how much Xiong Guozhi does for her. If she wanted anything, as long as she opened her mouth, Xiong Guozhi would get it for her. Fortunately, she never asks for anything!
It’s just that this promise was something Xiong Guozhi cannot break it off. It was a promise made between two elders and friends. Xiong Guozhi may not look like it, but he was a person of his words too. If he says he’s going to do something, then he will.
Li Roulan hated Xiong Jingfei for getting the things that her daughters couldn’t have. All of Xiong Guozhi’s expectations were put on Xiong Jingfei, even after all this time! Li Roulan thought he had given up on her, but that doesn’t seem to be when Xiong Jingfei walked in today.
“What kind of question is that?” Xiong Guozhi wasn’t in the mood to joke around with Xiong Jingfei.
It was a question that has been weighing on Xiong Jingfei’s shoulders for a long time… A very, very long time indeed. Is she just a tool for him to use? Does he love her only during the times she is useful, but once she is useless, will she get tossed away?
“Leave. I don’t want to see your face until you change your mind.” Xiong Guozhi growled. “That is the end of this discussion.”
Xiong Jingfei dropped her arms to her side. “This was never a discussion. I only came here to let you know what I’m planning to do. Whether you are taking my side or against me, but it looks like you’re on the latter.”
“Why do you keep talking back to your father!?” Xiong Guozhi raised his hand into the air as the room became deadly silent. Everyone sucked in a deep breath as they waited for it, but it never happened. “Leave!”
Xiong Jingfei whipped her head around and walked back to her seat. She picked up her purse and made her way out of the room. She touched the doorknob without turning it yet.
“Father… There is only one thing I am asking of you, and that is to not stand in my way. Nothing good will come out of it for both of us.” Xiong Jingfei narrowed her eyes at Li Roulan. “Take care of your health and beware of the snakes in your house. You may think you know everything, but you don’t.”
Xiong Jingfei slammed the door on the way out.
Li Roulan’s nose flared up. “Honey! This insolent child-”
“Quiet!” Xiong Guozhi roared, taking a good look at Li Roulan’s face. “Are you hiding anything from me?”
“H-honey!” Li Roulan’s voice cracked. “You believe her!? Someone who hasn’t been by your side all these years over me?”
“There is nothing to be afraid of if you’re not hiding anything.” Xiong Guozhi immediately dropped the topic, but in a threatening voice, “Don’t let me find out that you are hiding something.”
****
Xiong Jingfei came to ruin their day, but her day got partially ruined too. She told herself there wasn’t a need to feel down because her father’s response had already been expected. Then she reminded herself that she managed to accomplish her solo mission, outside of ruining their day and the announcement of breaking off her engagement.
“Wait!”
Xiong Jingfei turned around to face the person asking her to wait. She wouldn’t have for anyone, but the voice belonged to the person she used to call small.
“What do you want?” Xiong Jingfei closed her car door.
Xiong Jiayi sighed in relief that Xiong Jingfei wasn’t gone yet. She ran down the doorsteps and stood in front of Xiong Jingfei. “There is something I’ve been meaning to ask you.”
“That is?”
Xiong Jiayi fidgeted with her fingers, embarrassed to say it out loud. It felt so easy inside her head, but now standing in front of the actual person… “U-um… I… Your phone?”
Xiong Jingfei quiet her phone from interrupting them. The caller and interrupter was Yin Yuan. He was probably checking in to see how her solo mission was going.
“Go on.”
“Was it you? Did you ever tell me to be good and stay quiet?” Xiong Jiayi asked as her face turned red like a tomato.
The only sound between them was the sound of Xiong Jingfei’s phone ringing again. She didn’t say anything for the longest time as she kept staring at Xiong Jiayi.
She finally smiled and shook her head. “No, I’ve never said those words to you.”
“Ahh… I’m sorry for asking you such a weird question.” Xiong Jiayi dejectedly replied. “Drive safe back.”
Xiong Jingfei felt that there wasn’t a need to let Xiong Jiayi know. Some people aren’t meant to remember their past life, and Xiong Jiayi happened to be one of them. It was better for her not to know and have a clean start, unlike her.
