Empty Promises: The Ceo Cunning Bride - Chapter 221
Xiong Jingfei turned her head in annoyance to the side. She gave him the eyes, who was sitting in the back but the opposite side of her. He immediately signaled his eyes to the left for her to provide him with an explanation. The car’s mood wouldn’t be as sour if it weren’t for the additional person they picked up.
Feng Huan moved his eyes from staring out the window to looking at them, which caused both of them to avert their eyes and stared back to the front. He also went back to looking outside the window, and it wasn’t like he was any happier stuck in the same car with Yang Zheyan and Lu Weisheng.
Even he doesn’t know what Xiong Jingfei had in plan for him. She only mentioned that it was important he is present. It hasn’t been over a day since his memories returned.
Then there was Lu Weisheng being glad that he wasn’t sitting next to Yang Zheyan. He hasn’t spoken a word since picking up Feng Huan, and it was because of Xiong Jingfei’s conditions. One, he cannot question her, and two, he must obey everything she says. She most likely put those conditions in place because of that fourth person, Feng Huan.
In what felt like forever in that dreadful ride, they finally arrived at their destination.
“Woah!” Lu Weisheng exclaimed. He was astonished at the many steps to reach the top. “Is this the only way to get to the top?”
“I do wish there was another way.” Xiong Jingfei stared at those steps as if it was her worst enemy. We meet again for the third time!
“This place…” Yang Zheyan muttered, and Xiong Jingfei gave him a mysterious side glance before looking back up the stairs.

“Thank you so much for coming!” The grandson that gave Xiong Jingfei a phone came out to greet them. He was surprised to find that more than one person came with her. “They are?”
“I apologize for bringing them without letting you know ahead,” Xiong Jingfei quickly apologized and introduced them.
“It’s alright! I’m thankful that you were able to make it on such short notice.” The grandson grimly smiled, “Please, this way. She has been eagerly waiting for you.”
Behind the shrine and a little into the forest, there was a decent size house. It looked nothing like the place the crazy grandma lived in when she came here the second time.
“This place…” Xiong Jingfei questioned, seeing as it was different from the crazy grandma’s house.
“This is our family home, but grandma never liked living here. She was more into what you saw when you came here.” The grandson explained, showing Xiong Jingfei to the room that his grandma was staying. “She’s in there.”
Xiong Jingfei nodded her head. She turned around to face the three men who didn’t get along and pointed at all three of them, “Be good or else.”
Before entering the room, she gave Yang Zheyan another mysterious glance. He remained expressionless the whole time. He really didn’t question her, nor did he look like he had any interest in the area. There was nothing… Nothing.
“Feng Huan, please wait for me here. Don’t go anywhere.”
Lu Weisheng was baffled that she asked Feng Huan to wait for her instead of Yang Zheyan. The silent Yang Zheyan was ten times scarier than the smiling threatening Yang Zheyan.
Upon entering the room, the crazy grandma was different from Xiong Jingfei’s memories. The bouncing and energetic grandma was gone. She was now someone who laid in a bed without an ounce of energy.
Xiong Jingfei kneeled next to her and rubbed her hands together to warm them up. Then she lifted the grandma’s hand that was laid by her sides. In a soft voice, she said, “I’m here.”
After a few seconds, the crazy grandma opened her eyes, and a small tear dropped from the corner of her eyes. “I… I’ve been waiting for you for such a long time.”
“I-I’m sorry that I kept you waiting for me…” Xiong Jingfei’s voice began to quiver. “I should have come earlier… I couldn’t-”
“You… Know who I am?”
Xiong Jingfei quickly nodded her head and put the grandma’s hand tenderly next to her cheeks, “I know.”
The grandma put the last few strength into giving Xiong Jingfei a small smile, “I-I… I’m happy… Very… To meet you and Xu Song again before I’m gone.”
“Are you still mad at me for…” Xiong Jingfei found it hard to bring it up. “I…”
“Never, I-I was never mad at you… Me… I-I was mad at myself.” The grandma breathless muttered. “P-please forgive me before I leave this world?”
Xiong Jingfei wiped the grandma’s tears, “There is nothing to forgive.”
“Child… I want to have a clean start if I get another life…” The grandma stared straight into Xiong Jingfei’s eyes. “It’s… I’m tired of holding onto the past.”
Xiong Jingfei couldn’t say anything as she downcast her eyes. Even now, her heart still burns with hatred towards them, so how can she let go of the past?
“I brought someone here with me today.” Xiong Jingfei wiped her eyes and got up from the floor. She opened the doors to have three of them still standing around as if waiting for their owner. “Feng Huan-”
Yang Zheyan appeared out of nowhere and touched the corner of her eyes, “Did you cry?”
“I’m fine.” Xiong Jingfei coldly pushed his hands away without meaning to do it. Talking about the past continuously reminded her of what he did. “Feng Huan, come with me.”
The door that suddenly opened was quickly shut again.
“C-can we take a look around?” Lu Weisheng asked the grandson for permission. He needed to take Yang Zheyan somewhere else for the moment besides standing outside a closed door.
“Of course! If you follow the trail behind our house, it will lead you to a beautiful waterfall.” The grandson was giving them directions and places they might be interested to see. “There is also-”
“Waterfall.”
“W-waterfall it is!” Lu Weisheng quickly agreed with Yang Zheyan. He didn’t think Yang Zheyan would actually agree to leave Xiong Jingfei and Feng Huan alone together.
Back inside the room, Feng Huan quietly followed Xiong Jingfei to see the person lying in bed. He stood next to her while she went down on her knees again to wake up the grandma.
“Look who I brought here with me.” Xiong Jingfei whispered, waking the grandma back up. She turned to look at Feng Huan, “Come closer.”
Feng Huan did but froze up when he saw the person lying in bed.
The grandma’s eyes widened, and her mouth opened and closed many times before forcing words out. She repeatedly called his name tenderly, “H-Huan… Huan…”
