Era of Pet Beasts: Picking Up a Dark Demon Dragon Egg Right off the Bat - Chapter 35
Matthew, Heber, and Athosen rode in a luxurious carriage with an earth dragon pulling them into the City Lord Manor.
Although the earth dragon’s name had ‘dragon’ in it, it had nothing to do with the divine dragons.
It was a common mount on the Vartas continent, and it was reared by ordinary noble families.
The City Lord, Brenda, and Edith were on another carriage.
When they reached the main courtyard of the manor, Matthew alighted from the carriage.
The first thing he saw was a vast garden with a few water fountains beside it. There were even fish ponds and artificial mountains.
Not far ahead, there was a huge castle. It was exquisitely decorated and exuded a noble aura.
“Not a bad place.”
Matthew complimented inwardly.
Although he had lived in a remote mountain area since he came to this world, and he had never seen such a luxurious house in this life, they were not uncommon in his previous life.
Therefore, he did not behave like a child from a poor family.
“With such a good temperament, he will definitely have great accomplishments in the future.”
After City Lord Calvin Romeo and his two daughters got off the carriage, they saw Matthew’s indifferent expression and praised him in their hearts.
On the way back to the manor, he had already learned from his two daughters that Matthew had lived in the Maar Mountains since he was young and had never seen the prosperity of human cities.
Generally speaking, the first reaction of a child from a poor family when they saw a luxurious house should be shock and excitement, just like when he heard that Matthew was a Dragon Knight.
However, Matthew’s calm performance proved that he had a very good temperament, and that he didn’t care about worldly fame or fortune.
Regardless of the talent of such people, their future achievements would be very high. At the very least, it would not be limited to Yunras City.
While Calvin Romeo was praising Matthew in his mind, Brenda and Edith ran up to him.
Brenda smiled gently. “Let us show you around, Matthew.”
Edith, on the other hand, began to introduce the good parts of her family. “Let me tell you something, Matthew. My family has a lot of fun places. I’m sure you’ve never seen any of them in the Maar Mountains.”
“Tell me about it,” Matthew replied indifferently.
He had just found out that the two women were the daughters of the City Lord, but he did not try to please them.
If it had been anyone else, they would have shown Brenda and Edith all their kindness.
On the contrary, Matthew thought it unnecessary.
Although the daughters of the city lord had high status, it was not enough for him to lower himself to please them.
Edith was very lively. She immediately explained a lot of places. “Let’s go to the Combat Arena. That’s where the children of the Romeo family fight. There’s also a beast farm where our family raises mutated beasts…”
Matthew couldn’t muster any interest in the places Edith had mentioned.
Combat Arena?
Where children fight?
Mutated beasts reared by the family?
If Heber attacked, they probably wouldn’t even have time to hide.
How could ordinary mutated beasts catch Matthew’s eye?
“There is also a Grimoire House in the family. There are many records and books of magic in it…”
Brenda added.
However, this sentence caught Matthew’s attention.
The Grimoire House… had many records and books of magic.
This was what Matthew wanted to know!
However, before Matthew could say anything, Calvin Romeo arrived beside them and said with a smile, “The guests definitely need to rest when they just arrived. It’s all my fault for spoiling you guys so badly. Now, you don’t even know how to host guests.”
He sounded like he was blaming him, but there was no hint of blame in his tone. It was obvious how much Calvin Romeo doted on his two daughters.
“It’s alright.” Matthew waved his hand and said indifferently, “I’m quite interested in that Grimoire House. Can I go take a look now?”
“Of course.” Calvin laughed. “But there’s something odd about that bookhouse.”
Matthew asked doubtfully, “Oh? What’s so strange about it?”
It was just a bookhouse, could it hide?
Calvin explained, “The bookhouse contains the heritage of the Romeo family for tens of thousands of years. There are many secrets about our family, so my ancestors placed a restriction on it.”
It has secrets of their family? Then why did the City Lord promise me that I can go take a look… Matthew was even more puzzled.
Normally speaking, secrets that had been passed down for tens of thousands of years would not be told to outsiders.
What Matthew did not know was that after Calvin learned that he was a Dragon Knight, he did not intend to treat him as an outsider.
It was just that Matthew had lived two lifetimes, and he had a lot of experiences that ordinary people couldn’t compare to. Moreover, he had experienced such a dark childhood in Dragon God Village, so his views on matters regarding emotions had already changed greatly.
“The restriction of our ancestors is not meant for outsiders, but for those whose hearts are not sincere.”
Calvin continued to explain, “The Grimoire House is in a unique space, hidden behind every door of the castle. When you look for that bookhouse, you have to be sincere, or you will never find it in your life.”
“I see! Such an interesting restriction!” Matthew felt that his knowledge had increased.
The more things he came into contact with, the more he felt that this world was infinitely wondrous.
It was more magical than he had imagined.
“If you go looking for it now, it might take a lot of time.” Calvin glanced at the sky. The sun was high overhead. “I don’t think you’ll find it before dark.”
The restriction of the Grimoire House targeted everyone. Even the members of the Romeo family had to spend a lot of time searching for it.
Calvin meant that Matthew could look for it tomorrow, and he should rest for today.
“I understand.”
Matthew’s reply was as indifferent as ever, as if he didn’t catch Calvin’s subtle meaning.
As they spoke, the group of people had already reached the entrance of the castle.
CREAK
The five-meter-tall door opened automatically after they walked up the stairs.
A row of female servants were lined before them.
They were all dressed in maid outfits and had exquisite looks.
The row of servants bowed 90 degrees when they saw the City Lord.
“Welcome home, City Lord, Miss Brenda, Miss Edith, and our esteemed guests.”
As for Athosen, who was beside Matthew, it was completely ignored by the servants.
Or rather, they knew that it was Matthew’s beast, although it looked very much like a human.
However, Athosen’s red skin was too frightening. Even though the servants pretended to be calm, their eyes would still reveal a strange look. After all, they had never seen such a strange beast before.
Calvin waved his hand, indicating that they could get up.
Then he gestured to Matthew. “Please.”
Matthew walked in with a calm expression, as if he were treating everyone with the same indifference.
And, Athosen followed behind Matthew with an arrogant look on its face, as if it was born superior to others and was born a king!
