Eritance - Chapter 25
The orc chieftain roared and swung his sword down at me. I lifted the pot up and tried to block the strike, but it was so heavy that it made me take a knee. My arms were wobbling as he pressed down into the strike.
“Give…me.myrelic!!!” he growled at me. I was just about to lose all my strength when the lord charged in with a shout and tried to stab the orc chieftain with his sword. The chieftain instantly swung around with his fist and sent the lord flying. He hit the wall with heavy thud and spit out blood. Suddenly Ciara appeared.
Apparently, while her father had run at the orc chieftain, she dove into a roll towards him and sprung upwards to surprise him. As she jumped up she was able to run her knife along his torso, leaving a long gash from his hip to his shoulder.
The orc lord screamed as he focused his attention on her. Ciara rolled away, and the chieftain pursued her. Knowing that Ciara wouldn’t be able to get away once she came up from the roll I jumped towards the orc chieftain’s open back. I crashed into him and we fell to the floor. This only worked because he was already running towards Ciara and didn’t expect a weight to come crashing into his back.
I was able to get one punch into his face, but that was all. The orc chieftain quickly recovered and grabbed my fists. In hindsight, getting into a strength contest with a person or beast that is much stronger than you was not a good idea. I instantly flashed back to the hulk of a man I beat at arm wrestling. I was able to toss him around like a doll. I was about twice as strong as him at that point too.
The orc chieftain was easily able to keep my arms from moving. He pinned both of my arms to my side with just one of his. This twisted my body in an awkward position and I saw that the other guards were not doing that well either. Currently, one had a sword stuck through his chest, and the other two were standing off from the orc with wary expressions on their faces.
Things were not going as well as I had hoped when I rushed in there. I regretted coming. It wasn’t that I thought it was a bad idea to try to help Ciara save her father, it was just that we weren’t strong enough. The orc chieftain was just that strong. There was no way we could win. However, now that we were in the fight, it was too late to take it back. We would just have to try our best and hope for a miracle.
I really was in a bad situation though. I tried to break his grasp, but the orc chieftain was too strong for me. He immediately elbowed me in the face and I saw stars. From that hit alone, it almost caused me to pass it. If it had been a normal person with lower stamina, they probably would have passed out with just that one strike.
I tried to kick at him with my legs, but it was ultimately ineffective. At best, the kicks just made him angry. I was starting to panic. Ciara took this opportunity to jump into the fray. She jumped as high as she could and came directly down on to the orc chieftain’s free arm with here knife. Thanks to her body weight the knife was able to go all the way through the muscle in his arm and burry itself into the wooden floor.
The orc let out a yelp of pain and let go of me with his other arm. This gave both of us the opportunity to run away as the orc chieftain tried to free himself. He ended up pulling his arm out of the floor, but not the knife out of his arm. Ignoring this the orc chieftain rushed at us in a rage. Neither of us had weapons at this point and we had no choice but to jump out the way. I jumped towards a smashed table and grabbed a table leg that I planned on using as a club. Ciara jumped off in another direction and found a small cutting knife.
The orc lord rushed towards me and I swung the leg at him with all my strength. However, he took the strike as someone would take rain hitting them and punched me in the stomach. This immediately caused me to vomit blood. My body was in fire. I was in so much pain.
The orc chieftain was going to finish my off by smashing me in the head with his fists but as he did this Ciara ran up behind him and pushed the cutting knife into one of his kidneys. This caused him to scream out in pain again. However, this time she didn’t get away as he sent an elbow backwards and hit her. This caused her to fly backwards and pass out. I wasn’t sure if she was alive or dead, I just saw her body lying there.
With Ciara out of the way the orc chieftain turned his attention towards me. I tried to hit him with the club again, but he punched me and sent me flying again. “The relic, the relic, give me my relic!!!”.
He bore down on me and picked me up by the neck. He slowly started squeezing my throat. I couldn’t breathe, my lungs were on fire. I knew that I would die soon. However, there would be no escape. Ciara was down, and the other guards had just lost another man too. I would really die here.
I thrashed around punching him, but I just wasn’t strong enough to make him let go. As I started gasping, his grip loosened. I couldn’t understand what was happening. The point of a blade was facing me. Someone had stabbed a short sword through his back and gone all the way through his stomach. Looking like he had just been through death he leaned against the sword still coughing blood.
