Everlastingly Loving You - Chapter 118
“You better wake up, or I swear I’ll have your head,” Sophia whispered over to the unconscious Marcus.
“Don’t you think of leaving so soon, there are people in this world you’ll hurt if you do.”
“Think about Louis.”
“He cared enough to sit by your bedside until I forced him to leave so I swear if you don’t wake up from this state of yours…”
She sighed.
She couldn’t imagine Louis getting hurt one more time.
Leonard had been enough.
Now Marcus?
He couldn’t handle it. He wouldn’t be able to handle it. Sophia knew that.
“Not you too,” Sophia mumbled under her breath.
“First Leonard, now you, god no,” she uttered.
“Don’t leave, not for me I barely even know you. For Louis,” she said to him.
She checked the time. It was past midnight.
The nurses had been giving her weird stares.
They thought he was her boyfriend, she presumed.
She didn’t care what they thought. She’d promised Louis she’d stay and watch him, so that was what she’d do.
She flicked his forehead.
She was sleep-deprived, so she was doing the unthinkable.
She studied him, “You’re not faking all of this are you?”
“You know, to tie Louis down?” She asked.
“Because if you are, you can wake up now,” she whispered.
She turned back to see if anyone else was there with them.
“So you’re not faking this,” she slumped on her chair.
She heard a knock on the door.
She whipped around, “Brother?”
“No, boyfriend,” Nicholas answered.
“What are you doing here?” Sophia asked.
“I came to check up on you, obviously,” Nicholas replied.
“It’s late,” he said, feeling apprehensive.
“You have your interview tomorrow too,” he reminded.
“Don’t you think you need to get some sleep?” He walked over to her.
“Come on,” he coaxed.
“I suppose…”
“But who’s going to look after Marcus when I’m gone?”
Sophia yawned.
“See, you’re exhausted,” Nicholas said.
“Wait till Louis arrives.”
“Just take a nap.”
“Where?”
“Here.”
“I’ll watch him till Louis arrives,” Nicholas declared, taking a seat beside her on the couch in his hospital suite.
“You’d do that for me?” Sophia asked.
“Of course I would.”
Sophia snuggled beside him, making herself comfortable.
It wasn’t a minute later before she fell asleep – it’d been a long day.
She woke up beside Nicholas, who was still awake.
“Did you stay up all night?”
Nicholas didn’t seem tired at all.
“I did,” he nodded.
“Is Louis here yet?”
Nicholas nodded, “He’s off to get some coffee.”
“Ah,” Sophia said.
She wondered, “I’m going to have to return to the palace for a change of clothing.”
“I handled that already,” Nicholas assured.
Sophia tilted her head to the side.
“Oh?”
She saw a bag of clothing laid on the table.
She thanked him with a kiss on the forehead before she went to freshen up.
She exited the restroom changed and freshened up.
She wore a honey yellow cropped jacket, a light-blue striped top and denim jeans.
She looked at her outfit.
“Did you pick out my outfit?” She asked him.
Nicholas shrugged, “I figured why not go for a different look.”
“Just for today, of course,” he said.
“Why, do you not like it?” He asked worriedly.
Sophia walked over to him.
“I love it,” she said to him.
She wasn’t only referring to her outfit, although she preferred it in red.
Yellow was to much of a cheerful colour for her.
“Louis,” Sophia greeted.
“Thanks for looking after him the entire night,” Louis thanked.
Sophia glanced at Nicholas, “I don’t deserve all the credit for this.”
Louis smiled.
“Did you get a full night of rest?” Sophia asked her brother.
Louis nodded for her sake.
He’d gotten some sleep, but it was far from a full night of rest.
He’d been worrying over Marcus.
“And you?” He asked his sister.
“Let’s just say I got some sleep thanks to a certain someone,” she subtly gestured to Nicholas.
Nicholas shrugged, giving Louis a look.
‘She was tired so I swapped places with her.’
Louis nodded, a look of fathom on his face.
The gratitude he felt for Nicholas – for looking out for Marcus and his sister was immeasurable.
“Thanks,” he thanked.
“You can go now,” he then said to the both of them.
“Well, I don’t have to, I can always keep you company,” Sophia offered.
“I don’t need your company, Soph, don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” Louis promised.
Sophia looked sceptical but left it at that.
“Alright,” she sighed.
She had an interview to get to, so she couldn’t stay for long anyway.
She and Nicholas left after.
Louis walked over to Marcus’ bedside.
He’d be needing surgery soon, and he couldn’t eat using a feeding tube since patients weren’t allowed to eat around 6 hours before surgeries, and drink any kinds of fluids for 2 hours.
He studied Marcus’ battered and bruised face that were horrible shades of blue and purple.
He gulped.
‘Please wake up,’ he whispered to Marcus.
‘Please fight it,’ he whispered next.
‘Please don’t die on the operating room table,’ he pleaded.
Oh, if only Marcus was awake to see how deep Louis had fallen for him.
He’d first been sceptical, he’d first suspected Marcus of having ill intentions.
But over time, his perception of Marcus had changed.
He didn’t know when exactly he knew he’d fallen, but it was a gradual process. Every detail he learnt about him, only managed to make him love Marcus more and more.
It wasn’t anything like what he felt for Leonard or any other man. It was special, and unique, in the best way possible.
He didn’t know how this man managed to make him feel this way about him, but he knew with full certainty that he loved him… even if things were going too fast.
He remembered what he planned on doing before Marcus decided they needed a break.
He should’ve done it sooner. Then he wouldn’t have been in a hospital waiting for Marcus to receive surgery.
