Everlastingly Loving You - Chapter 141
Breathe in, breathe out.
‘Keep on breathing.’
‘Someone’s bound to notice me.’
‘This is a huge palace, but at the same time it’s filled to the brim with staff and family members.’
‘They’ll get help, and I’ll be okay.’
‘I’m going to be okay.’
‘Totally and completely okay.’
But was she going to be okay?
Would someone find her?
Or would it be too late?

“Morning,” Louis greeted Marcus.
Marcus sloppily placed a kiss on Louis’ forehead.
He yawned, “Somehow, I still feel sleepy.
Louis laughed, “When don’t you feel sleepy?”
Marcus chuckled, “Amazing point.”
Louis looked at the time, “Oh god, I was supposed to meet up with my sister.”
He checked his phone.
Yep, Sophia had sent him dozens of messages demanding where he was. He was crapped.
He fell into bed, heaving a big sigh.
Meanwhile, with Sophia and Nicholas…
“What are we doing next?” Sophia questioned Nicholas.
“What about a double date?” Nicholas suggested.
“Sure,” Sophia nodded.
“I’ll call Clarisse and Blaine up to see if they’re up for it,” Sophia offered.
Nicholas nodded, “Alright.”
They walked through a hallway… before…
Nicholas’ eyes widened.
Sophia gasped.
Laying on the ground, eyes shut… was Julia.
He rushed to Julia’s side, checking for a pulse.
Sophia shook her grandmother.
“Grandmere, are you alright?”
Julia had a faint pulse.
“Sophia,” she called weakly.
Sophia’s heart thudded in her chest tenfold faster than it usually did.
“What happened?!” She examined Julia to see if she’d fallen down the stairs or something.
Julia moved her trembling hand to her heart.
Nicholas called for an ambulance immediately, and Sophia stayed by her side.
Julia then pointed to the stairs.
She tried speaking, but Sophia stopped her – telling her to save her energy.
“Help is on the way,” Sophia assured, “Just stay with us.”
Nicholas had gone to fetch some aspirin to help her blood from clotting since Julia just had a heart attack.
“S-Sophia,” Julia wheezed. She could barely speak, much less say a full sentence.
“What is it grandmere?” Sophia asked, her voice trembling.
Grandmere reached for Sophia’s hand which was inches away from hers.
“S-Sophia…”
Sophia stayed silent, waiting to hear whatever grandmere had to tell her. She quickly called Louis, desperately hoping he’d pick up the phone and rush to her aid. This could be the last time they saw her. The future was unforeseen with her unstable condition.
“R-Ray-”
Sophia’s heart dropped.
It was the first time in years she’d heard Julia say that name.
No, it wasn’t the name of her husband.
Or her friend.
It was the name of…
“H-he-”
Sophia shushed her. Nothing Julia could say was worth it. All Sophia cared was for Julia to preserve the little energy she had left and wait for help.
She checked Julia’s pulse again – she was glad she’d remembered what she’d been taught during biology.
She couldn’t proceed with CPR since Julia still had a faint pulse. It was in the case Julia had stopped breathing or no longer had a pulse that she could begin CPR to keep her blood flowing till emergency medical help arrived.
Where the hell was Nicholas?
“Grandmere,” Sophia called, blinking back tears.
She couldn’t lose her, not now.
Things were finally going great for her, this couldn’t be happening, not when she least expected it to.
Shaking her head, she reminded herself this was grandmere. The strongest woman she knew. If anyone could fight through this, it was her.
“Please don’t go,” she begged.
Julia’s breathing was ragged.
Sophia was glued to her spot, kneeling next to Julia, with no idea what to do.
Emergency medical help wouldn’t be arriving till a few minutes if not hours later.
People could live after having a heart attack, it was completely normal, but Julia? At her age?
“Stay with us,” Sophia said.
Julia gave her a look that said, ‘I’m not going anywhere, dear.’
Sophia bit her lip, hoping for the best as she continued uttering encouraging words, checking Julia’s pulse and hearing her breathing, before… It happened.
Julia’s hand went limp. She’d gone unconscious.
Nicholas had come with the medical help just in time – before Sophia had to perform CPR which she’d never done before.
Julia was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was brought to the coronary care unit and monitored closely.
Sophia watched as Julia laid on a hospital bed in the CCU.
‘One out of every 10 people who had heart attacks died within a year, usually within the first three to four months,’ she reminded herself.
Sophia inhaled, trying the best she could to be strong.
Nicholas tried consoling her.
“I can’t believe it,” he said, staring at Julia.
He placed a hand on Sophia’s shoulder supportively.
Louis was on his way to the hospital, unaware of what condition Julia was in because Sophia hadn’t bothered to check her phone.
A nurse closed her curtains – which proceeded to cause Sophia to freak out. They weren’t allowed in to see her for some reason.
The loss of her father hadn’t affected her, she was never close to the man, nor had he ever treated her as though she was his daughter.
But Julia?
She couldn’t lose her grandmother.
She couldn’t lose the very woman who made her the person she was today.
The things that happened next all occurred in a blur. Like they were all moving in slow motion.
They were monitoring her condition but she was still unconscious.
Yet…
Suddenly…
Loud beeping sounds came from Julia’s room.
Nurses and doctors rushed in with all sorts of equipment, prompting Sophia to ask the question, “What’s happening?”
She was panicking, and for Nicholas it could be said the same.
Beeping noises were heard as doctors tried to get blood flowing back to Julia’s body, using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
Sophia’s hand flew to her mouth, and Nicholas wrapped his hand around her waist.
‘Please no,’ he shut his eyes.
‘Not Julia.’
And that was the moment he heard it.
Silence.
Silence filled the entire room before Sophia and Nicholas both realized what had happened.
She’d flatlined.
(Author’s Note: This was a doozy! And reminder, this is a fantasy romance novel, so not everything hospital-related is accurate so please don’t come at me.)
