Evil Black Maria - Chapter 90. Awakening
She ripped out the guts and crushed them noisily.
The blood that burst from the force stained Casca’s hands red.
“All right, first one. That’s a bit of a relief, ain’t it?”
With a cruel smile on her face, she looked down at the cruel lump of flesh that Keith had become and wiped away the blood lightly.
At the same time, the darkness that had coloured Casca’s sclera returned like an evening tide back to its original white.
However, that didn’t mean all of her anger had died down. It was Izuru, not Keith, who had directly damaged her hair and nails in the first place.
In other words, Izuru was the one who was supposed to be killed. There was no way she could feel satisfied leaving her behind.
“How does it feel to have your friend slaughtered in front of you……? I could have him cooked for you if you want, eh?”
When Casca turned towards Izuru, her lips quirked in amusement.
It was unclear whether she was joking, or she was being serious. Regardless, it was a nauseating suggestion that made her sound like she was genuinely enjoying the brutality.
“But this octopus is a small fish with no real skills. A hundred times worse than that lazy virgin Hound and a thousand times worse than that weasel Wicker Man! I don’t know how he could call himself a mercenary with that, nyahahahaha!”
Mocking laughter echoed in the quiet, bloody air.
She ripped his limbs off, brutally murdered him, and now made fun of him.
All this mocking was the final trigger.
“Nyahahaha——eh?”
Casca’s laughter died down as if she had blocked it out.
It was replaced by a new sound, a buzzing spark that pierced the eardrums.
“—————-”
Izuru stood up, her body trembling with exhaustion, her face flushed with hatred.
She looked so weak that a light tap would have knocked her over.
But all over her body.
A tremendous amount of electricity surrounded her.
“……that’s funny. How can you still use magic even though I’ve completely crushed your throat?”
Chanting was basically crucial for humans to use magic.
Therefore, if the voice is lost, a magic user is mostly powerless.
A long time ago, when she asked Shizuru if she could use magic to get liquor or gold, Casca was taught that, incidentally, magic was not universal.
She tried to remember the details and searched her memories.
“Hmmm……No, all I remember is fondling Shizu.”
She got bored halfway through and didn’t listen to the end.
It was as expected.
“———”
While Casca was pondering, Izuru eventually made her move.
She began to concentrate all the magic in her body into her right hand, which she raised high towards the sky.
“Oh, so bright.”
The magic energy converged and soon became so dense that it shone with an extraordinary light that was impossible to look at.
The amount of energy clearly surpassed that of the previous Lightning Strike.
Izuru was about to run out of magic energy, but magic was something that was easily influenced by emotions, just like how Ludmila’s magic eyes, for example, darkened in colour due to her strong desire for revenge.
Perhaps it was the anger from seeing Keith murdered in front of her eyes that mixed in and fuelled the remaining magic.
“——————”
Moving her dry lips, Izuru muttered something inaudible.
Whether it was a chant or a spiteful remark, Casca had no idea.
“—————–”
The yellow magic converges in her right hand and separates from Izuru as a sphere.
Shortly afterwards, she lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground like a puppet with broken strings.
The discharge of magical energy results in a significant drain on the body.
And this attack was truly the result of all of Izuru’s magical power.
The fatigue she was experiencing was a natural consequence of this.
“Tch……what was that all about……?”
Casca clicked her tongue in annoyance at the ear-piercing sound of the spark and the blinding light.
–Shortly afterwards, the sphere of lightning began to change shape.
“Huh….?”
The lightning spreads out in all directions with the sphere as its centre.
With a continuous and deafening high-pitched sound, it changes its shape.
Legs with narrow, sharp claws.
A pointed beak that curves slightly.
Wings of shining light and yellow lightning, measuring no more than five metres on each side.
It was – a giant raven, made of lightning.
“…..holy shit.”
Casca looked up at it incredulously, the light had subsided to the point where she could clearly look at it.
The Lightning Raven, on the other hand, looked down at her silently, flapping its wings softly.
“I hate it when people screw up and end up doing something I don’t understand…… Ah, wait. I’ve seen something like this before.”
Hunching over lazily, Casca began to dig through the deja vu that came to mind.
After a few seconds, she got the answer she was looking for.
“Ah. That’s what Jeanne had once done, I think.”
A huge lion made of flames.
The magic spell that Jeanne used during a dispute over Shizuru between her and Casca, who lived under the same roof as Jeanne shortly after she joined Black Maria.
She forgot the name, but the raven in front of her looked very much like the animal she had seen.
“Oh, for f**k’s sake, that thing was tough.”
The lightning was not just shaped like a raven.
It is an existence slightly different from simple things like that.
“I wonder if I went a bit too far……? Snapping and getting stronger, the old hag Chesire was enough for me…… I guess I’ll be sorry for a little while, nyan.”
Casca stepped forward with remorse in her heart that she would likely forget the next day.
The great raven that looked down at her cried out in a high-pitched neigh.(1)
“Nyaaah, shut up!”
The noise was so deafening that it almost burst her eardrums, and Casca quickly covered her ears.
She glared at the large raven through raised eyes, offended.
“If you want to fight me, come and get me. I’ll roast you like a chicken!”
Casca bared her sharp fangs and hunched over further.
It was a “time to fight ” stance. In other words, she recognized the raven as a worthy opponent.
However—–the two sides never came to a clash.
“……….!”
Just as she was about to lunge forward, Casca was suddenly knocked off her feet and faced the sky.
What she saw was the purple night sky with twinkling stars and moon.
There, she spotted a huge black-scaled dragon that was flying directly above her
“That’s …….”
But Casca didn’t even give the dragon a second glance.
She turned her wide-open eyes to a small shadow hovering against the moon.
As she looked, it grew larger and larger, until she could see their outline clearly.
–Silver hair that shimmered, reflecting the moonlight.
A woman in a jet-black suit that blended in with the dark night, holding a white cane in her hand.
“Boss …..?”
The figure of Richelieu jumped from a height of several hundred meters.
Before Casca even had time to think about why she was here, she dropped down in a straight line.
And then – the raven that was at the impact point dispersed as soon as she made contact with its talons.
As she continued, Richelieu landed noiselessly, as if she had jumped over a small step.
she brushed her hair back, she tilted her head and muttered.
“……Did I just step on something?”

[TL notes: First of all, I had thought it was Jeanne on the dragon, cuz dragon and flames and all. Also had made a mistake translating in the last chap “cane” as staff lol.
And then Richelieu came and My reaction was like : “What the Frick?” XD.
Anyways, I finally accepted my inner laziness (also got tired of worrying about Chap quality), and got a proofreader.
