Chapter 859 – Finale: Song Fengyan x Luo Qingqing (7)
Lan Xiyan felt light and exhilarated at the same time. She hadn’t felt free and just herself like this for a long time. She never thought that coming clean to the public and confronting Xing Yiyue would make her feel this way. Somehow, she was grateful for what Xing Yiyue had done, or else she would have been forever running away, refusing to face her fears.
While she was grateful for Song Xinji’s help, a part of her didn’t trust the woman. Song Xinji was the one who got between her and Song Fengyan in the past. While it was true that she was the one who broke up with him, tricking him to believe that she aborted their child, Song Xinji was also the reason for their nasty break up.
Song Xinji didn’t care one bit about her reputation as an actress and only intervened because a family member was involved in the scandal. Had the issue not been related to Lan Yunru, Lan Xiyan knew that Song Xinji wouldn’t waste her time to help her at all.
However, she also knew that the Song family wouldn’t leave her and her daughter alone now that they were aware of Lan Yunru’s existence. She wouldn’t be surprised if one of these days, Song Fengyan came and informed her of their intention to allow her Little Yunyun to bear the Song family name.
The car stopped at the parking spot of the apartment complex she was living in with her daughter. Her eyes caught Song Fengyan leaning against his car as if he was waiting for someone.
Was he waiting for her? Lan Xiyan wondered. What did he want? Although they were talking civilly to each other, she and Song Fengyan only talked about their daughter and nothing more. If he came here to talk about his family’s intention to get their daughter’s custody, Lan Xiyan didn’t know how she should face him this time.
Lan Xiyan considered driving away to avoid him. It was really tempting to do so.
‘Don’t be ridiculous. Didn’t you just say you won’t run away from your problems again?’ she mocked herself.
When Song Fengyan noticed the car that his sister sent, he trotted towards it, not giving Lan Xiyan a chance to leave. It was too late for her to ask her driver-bodyguard to drive away, considering Song Fengyan had already noticed her.
Lan Xiyan took a deep breath and stepped out of the car, thankful that the sunglasses were enough to hide her face. She braced herself and looked straight ahead, not giving him a chance to notice that she was nervous deep inside.
“Xiyan,” he called her.
His voice was warm and gentle, which made her want to cry. Song Fengyan remained the same man she had fallen in love with. He was kind and gentle when it came to their daughter— something Lan Xiyan expected he would be as a father.
She had thought that after years of being apart, she would be able to completely be over him, but that never happened. The guilt of having him hurt by lying to him still gnawed her inside till this day.
The thought of getting back together with him had crossed her mind, but every time she looked at Song Fengyan’s smiling face, the guilt of what she had done to him and Yunyun forbade her to entertain that idea.
How could she be with him after all the suffering she put him through? It was already kind enough that he hadn’t lashed out on her or spite her for denying him of his rights to be a father to their child.
“Can we talk?” Song Fengyan asked.
“Is this about Yunyun?” Her voice was steady. Her expression had to be steady, for she didn’t want to break down in tears in front of him. “If it isn’t about Yunyun then we have nothing to talk about, Mr. Song.”
She was about to leave him behind, but Song Fengyan reached out and gently took her wrist, effectively stopping her. “No.”
The contact on her skin made Lan Xiyan shiver. She looked at him in disbelief. To think that he still had an effect on her like this… It almost made her cry out. What was he up to now?
Hadn’t she done enough damage already? She really didn’t want to be the cause of his distress; that was why she had allowed him to catch up and spend more time with their daughter while she wasn’t around. Seeing him and her Little Yunyun only reminded her of her sins.
“Please let go, Mr. Song. I just cleared up an issue and I really don’t want to start another one with you.” She also didn’t want to delude herself that they could be together.
But Song Fengyan kept his hand where it was, forbidding her to leave. Lan Xiyan could feel the intensity of his gaze set upon her. Why? Why was he still looking at her like this when he should have hated her— despised her for everything she’d put him through?
Dear lord, she had to get away. A moment longer and she might not be able to keep her composure anymore. She didn’t want to cry in front of him, like the pathetic loser that she was. She couldn’t have him for herself and was willing to set him free even if it killed her to hold everything inside.
“Xiyan, I’m sorry. I should be the one who should’ve protected you, but I failed you yet again,” Song Fengyan said.
His apology surprised Lan Xiyan. Shouldn’t she be the one apologizing to him right now and not him? Her lips parted in shock while her mind tried to understand why he was apologizing to her.
She tugged her wrist until he let her go,
“Well, it’s all settled now, so it doesn’t matter anymore, Mr. Song.”
She should have known better that Song Fengyan was only concerned about her because of their child. Had it been another case where she had aborted their baby and found herself in the middle of a slanderous scandal, Song Fengyan wouldn’t appear in front of her, extending a hand to protect her.
