Evil Lady: My Hubby is a Traitor - C7
Chapter 7 – Assassin Spies
Suburban Courtyard.
In a clean room filled with special torture instruments, there was a man half as tall as an iron cage with his head exposed outside. He was small and thin, and his body and limbs were all trapped in a small iron cage.
The man’s face and scalp had already been bitten by a sharp-toothed animal. The bloody wound was hideous, and only the faint outline of his face could be seen. He was the assassin who had escaped on the night of the wedding.
“The gift that I gave on the day of the wedding wasn’t enough, and you even want to give me another gift? Do you really think that my Gu Xiangfu is free to go in and out?” Gu Yicheng sat on a wooden chair, both of his hands were wearing black gloves, and was fiddling with a sawn like little toothpick torture device. If one looked carefully, it wasn’t hard to see that those thin and sharp teeth had curled backwards like hooks.
Gu Yicheng played with it for a while, before taking out another strange-looking torture device from the rack. There was an inch long metal cylinder filled with thin iron bars, and after twisting it a bit, it suddenly exploded in front of him. The iron bars were as thin as needles, and were densely packed together.
“Gu Si, let him try.” Gu Yicheng threw the things in his hands to the subordinate of the pale-faced scholar in the iron cage, who was walking deeper into the prison as he looked at the man covered in blood, “Let me guess your identity, as well as the purpose of infiltrating Wanshen.”
Inside the cell, his hands and feet were shackled by iron chains and suspended in the air as if he were a corpse waiting to be dried by the wind.
The man’s head hung lifelessly, and his face was covered by his black hair that was stained with blood. His weak breath brushed his hair, and it was barely possible to see that he was still alive.
Half a year ago, Gu Yicheng received news that an enemy spy had infiltrated the Wanshen’s capital. He had been secretly investigating the enemy spy, but this spy had hidden himself too deeply, had acted carefully, and had hidden himself extremely well. He had been unable to determine who it was from the three people he suspected, until two days before the wedding.
In order to hold him back, Song Shujin had interfered with this matter.
When that spy received the news, he was prepared to leave the capital temporarily. After he had passed the limelight, he would enter the city as a merchant caravan.
The spy thought that he would relax a little on the day of his wedding. He mixed in with the crowd of spectators from the north of the city to the south of the city, planning to leave the city unnoticed.
When he was at Qing Xiang Street, Gu Yicheng found some spies and purposely showed up, making people think that he would appear at the wedding.
After the spies left the city, he led his men to pursue them all the way until they found their stronghold outside the city.
Gu Yicheng made a gesture, and the people behind him quietly moved forward, surrounding the farmhouse’s small courtyard.
Inside the house, the master sent the spies into the secret passage. He restored the entrance to the secret passage, spread the straw on top of it, and then piled up the messy goods on top.
After doing everything, the owner of the house felt relieved and walked out.
Just as he walked out of the house, he saw Gu Yicheng riding on a horse over.
The owner of the house, who was around thirty years old, was holding a bucket. He was shocked, but he did not reveal anything.
“Uncle, have you seen someone with a mole on their chin?” Gu Yicheng was riding a big horse and was dressed in luxurious clothing.
The house owner’s hand that was holding the water bucket tightened as he sneaked an inch into the corner of Wang Yan’s mouth. Coincidentally, there was a small black mole there.
“I’ve seen people with mole on their faces, but I haven’t seen anyone with mole on the corner of their mouth.” The owner of the house replied carefully, with a hint of fawning on him.
“Thank you, Uncle.” Just as he was about to turn around and leave, he saw the other party heave a sigh of relief in the corner of his eyes. He let out a disdainful laugh as he reined himself down, and his cold voice descended from the sky, “Uncle is really amazing! I only said that there is a black mole on his chin, but you actually guessed that it was near the corner of his mouth.”
The house owner was shocked, he threw the water bucket in his hands towards Gu Yicheng and jumped to the side.
However, just as he ran out of the garden, he ran into a group of people surrounding him. He made up his mind and took out his dagger to kill himself.
“Go in and search.”
Gu Yicheng rode on his horse around the small farmhouse slowly, his brows were filled with chill and calculation.
Gu Yicheng’s horse stopped at a certain place and galloped northwestward a few steps, and then returned to the nearby roads to compare the slight changes to the sound of the horse’s hooves.
Gu Si led his people and searched inside the house, only seeing the dead owner of the house, all of them were searching inside, sensing that something was wrong with the sound of footsteps, they moved the goods away and found the entrance to the secret passage. After sending people down to look, they found a series of footprints.
“Master, we found a secret path heading northwest.” Gu Si walked out of his house to report.
“The public roads of Yangjing City are often visited by caravans, so it is indeed a good place.” Gu Yicheng looked northwest, and said: “Let’s go!”
The group rode away, dust flying from the horses’ hooves.
Halfway there, the leading Gu Yicheng pulled on the reins and stopped.
“Master?” Gu Qi pulled the reins in time to avoid the attack.
“Gu Si, you will be in charge of bringing your men to hunt him down. Try to leave him alive.” Gu Yicheng explained, and immediately turned his horse and head back towards the capital.
Gu Yicheng sped along, his clear thoughts clear as day.
He was rushing to the official road that led to Yangjing City, he would definitely not be able to rush back here before the city gates opened. If an expert were to enter the palace tonight to assassinate Yun Qianliang, it would definitely be hard to guard against them.
However, Gu Yicheng did not directly enter the capital from the city gate that day. Instead, he took a detour around a hidden mountain road and avoided Song Shujin’s line of sight from the city gate.
As for Gu Si and the rest, they trapped and killed all of the merchants who were in pursuit of the spy.
Those people killed themselves immediately after being caught, so they had no choice but to disguise as the merchant caravan’s men and ambush the spies at the secret exit, catching them alive.
A few days after the wedding, Gu Yicheng had been investigating the identity of the spy, as well as the purpose of infiltrating the capital, and had even tried to find the person who sent the spy news in the capital. However, the spy’s mouth was tight, and after torturing him, he did not utter a single word.
Gu Yicheng was not afraid of people who talked back, he had ways to make them speak.
In the past two days, Gu Yicheng only cared about torturing the assassin, and every time he used torture, he would do it in front of the spy, in order to slowly destroy the defensive line in the assassin’s heart.
My name is Wang Yan, and my old boss is from the north. Many years ago, he failed a mission and was chased after. The playful smile on his face seemed to be provoking someone, “The reason Prince Qi sent you to Wanshen this time, was to investigate a person, and also to find something of value.”
“If Gu Xiang has the ability to investigate, why should I stay?” Wang Yan spat out a mouthful of blood, and his eyes were devoid of life.
“This body doesn’t seem to know anything.” Gu Yicheng smiled charmingly, he was in no hurry to question Wang Yan about his home in Wanshen, so he turned around and walked out, instructing Gu Si to greet the two of them.
Gu Yicheng walked out of the dungeon, and saw Liu An, who was following beside Steward Gu and listening to his orders.
“What happened in the Prime Minister’s Estate?” Gu Yicheng asked as he walked out.
Liu An explained what happened this morning in detail, and Gu Yicheng’s eyes became more serious.
