Evolution Theory of the Hunter - Chapter 172
“I suppose it’s fine for me to go now?”
“Sorry, but I think that’s going to be difficult.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I can pass by the fact that you attacked my guild members but don’t you think you should return the weapon you stole?”
“I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”
“I’ve heard that you took Kevin’s weapon.”
“Ah. So it’s about that?”
I brought out the Giant White Tiger I had put in.
As a huge monster suddenly appeared on the beach Brandon took a step back while full of tension.
“I’ve turned it into this though?”
“…… Then give me the monster.”
It seems talking with an iron plate on one’s face is a fact shared internationally.
I nodded with a smile.
“Then try taking it.”
“Can, can I really do so?”
Greed rose on Brandon’s face.
“I’m not sure if it’ll listen to you though.”
He carefully approached the Giant White Tiger. The moment Brandon stretched his arm to touch the Giant White Tiger, it bit his arm.
“Hiik?!”
“Ah. Sorry, this guy’s jokes go too far.”
As I caressed its neck it let go of the arm it was biting while purring. Brandon collapsed on his butt after almost losing his arm.
It was a figure that lost its soul. It was a bit pitiful.
“God, god damn it…… Get that guy!”
Brandon regained himself and shot up.
The Britania guild surrounded Edward and I.
Looking at them, they were pretty outstanding hunters. They were level 6 on average and there were even some level 8 hunters.
At this point, it wasn’t a level A but it was at least a level B raid team.
“You’re planning on fighting at a place with this many people?”
“We’ll leave if you return the weapon you took.”
Thinking about the price of a level 6 item, coming out like this wasn’t all that surprising. There was no way I could actually give them the Giant White Tiger though.
I was wondering if I actually had to fight when the atmosphere shook violently.
It was an aura that made one’s entire body shake.
I could feel clear animosity towards humans coming from the ocean.
Team Britania turned their sights towards the ocean as if I wasn’t the only one that felt it.
Brandon was faster in determining the situation than me.
“Alert! Everyone change to battle formation!”
“To battle formation!”
Every member of Britania suddenly brought out their weapons and headed towards the ocean. Ethan who had collapsed on the ground also moved quickly.
Edward opened his mouth.
“Those guys. It seems they were something like coast guards.”
“They’re exercising force against civilians with such a position?”
It was a bit astounding but it was a good thing that there wouldn’t be any further pointless friction.
“Um…….”
But there was a guy that didn’t go yet.
It was the red haired guy, Kevin.
“What do you want?”
“Um…… Can’t you return my weapon? I can’t battle without…….”
“I don’t have it though?”
“Please, I’m begging you.”
He suddenly started tearing up after lowering his position and holding my hand. Someone will think that he’s proposing if they see this. I took out my hand and retreated.
“I told you it’s gone even if I want to give it to you.”
“…… No way…….”
The guy drooped his head with a stupefied expression. He did become a bit pitiful. I thought about giving him a low level weapon among the ones I had but shook my head.
I remembered his figure as he swung his sword. What did I like about a guy that changes depending on the situation to take care of him.
“I’ll give this to you instead so leave.”
I handed him a Wound Cure Potion.
Even if it was a guy without a weapon, he needs to treat his wound to be able to tank.
It was like giving him medicine after giving him an illness but whatever.
I decided to look at the battle situation on the Giant White Tiger. I didn’t know what would appear but since there’s a lot of tourists here I could take care of it if team Britania can’t.
“But do humans deal with monsters every time they appear on the beach?”
Edward said.
“No.”
Most took the approach of surrounding the entire beach with concrete and asphalt.
They also pour concrete into the ocean like a seawall. If a seawall is constructed like a maze then there aren’t many monsters that can get through.
After constructing the basics your everyday monster won’t appear.
It’s not like one or two monsters don’t appear but the hunters on standby mobilize immediately.
The beach here is like that as well.
Only, I didn’t have a good premonition. It’s because it’s difficult to let out such an intimidating aura without being a monster of a considerable level. Unless it’s Baek Gyeong.
It can’t be that guy can it? There’s no way it can swim all the way here when we traveled over a month in a submarine…….
Boom!
“Ahhh!”
“Run away!”
Screams could be heard together with a massive explosion.
The sight in front of me made my mouth become wide open.
There was a sight that was astounding in a different sense from seeing 90 Baek Gyeongs.
Hundreds of monsters were coming up to the beach.
It was the figure of monsters that looked like a mix between humans and fish fiercely advancing towards nearby humans while holding tridents.
Mermaid Warrior (7) : A race that uses the ocean as its base. Able to move on land.
Mermaid Healer (8) : A race that uses the ocean as its base. Uses healing magic.
Mermaid Fighter (7) : A race that uses…….
There were hundreds of monsters that were at least level 7 coming up to the surface.
It was a never before recorded phenomenon.
“Kiee!”
The dozens that surfaced first were rushing team Britania with their sharp spears as weapons. They fell behind in terms of basic level and they weren’t even close to being a match numerically.
I didn’t even have time to think about how such an event came to be.
I had to block those for now. Behind the port was a major city with a population of over a million and the casualties can increase exponentially if they can’t be blocked here.
There was no reason to hesitate.
I called out the monster army from the item list.
A huge number of monsters poured out on the beach. The people that were running away lost the strength in their legs as they looked at the large scale monster army.
“Ahh!”
“It can’t be!”
“A monster wave is……!”
The civilians who had never seen this many monsters before got infected by fear. But they soon realized that the monsters weren’t even looking at them.
And someone started shouting after seeing a large figure at the very front; the Black Tiger looking arrogantly at the mermaids and me riding it.
“It’s the Great Summoner! We’re saved!”
“The Great Summoner?”
“No way!”
“Oh. God. Thank you!”
Hope spread throughout the people faster than the speed panic spread.
I sat on the Black Tiger on purpose to be able to aim for such an effect.
I shouted after seeing the people slowly start to gain their calm.
“Everyone please evacuate to a safe location!”
“Waa!”
“OMG! To see this with my own eyes!”
“Take a picture! Picture!”
But the people slowly started approaching the monster army, let alone run away. There was a smartphone held in each and every one of their hands. There were even people streaming this live.
I swear to god, these kinds of people are everywhere.
I used the Recruitment skill to make the monsters move. I pushed away the civilians who were approaching the monsters to the outskirts and looked down at the mermaids.
It looked difficult for team Britania to hold up any longer.
However, they were doing their best to block them to buy at least a bit more time.
They didn’t have a good first impression but I felt a bit better looking at them risk their lives to protect civilians.
I shouted at them in a loud voice.
“All of you retreat! I will take care of the back!”
“Urg……! I, I leave it to you!”
Brandon started fleeing the battlefield as soon as I said so.
There were a few casualties that occured from team Britania while I took out the monsters and organized them.
They could have lived if I moved a bit faster but even I needed to take my time to organize monsters that numbered over 2000.
I’m not sure if I can say that it’s thankful but Kevin survived. I wouldn’t have been able to sleep that well if he died.
I basically had little knowledge on large scale battles.
That’s why I looked up formations during every free time I got after obtaining the level 0 Recruitment.
There were several factors that decided victory or loss in a large scale battle. That is, the number of soldiers, individual ability, morale of troops, degree of training, and finally terrain.
And currently, the monster army had the upper hand in every area besides individual ability.
The problem was that there was too large of a difference between individual ability.
I put the monsters that were at least level 4 in the middle and stacked them for the middle to be thick. Thinking about the fact that the mermaids have an average level of 7 it wasn’t enough but I was planning on pushing through with numbers.
About 500 monsters made up the center army while the other 1500 became the wings.
The widely spread level 1 to 3 monsters were more for pressuring the back line and creating an encircling net.
As long as the mermaids were monsters, it wouldn’t have a lot of effect on their morale but it would definitely have an effect on spreading their attacks.
I couldn’t say that it was an elaborate theory but there is something called Lanchester’s law that’s often used in a battle between large forces.
It’s a theory that says that the side that has more numbers has an exponentially higher chance of winning in a face to face battle.
According to his calculations, in a 5 on 4 fight, there’s not 1 person surviving on the 5 side but 3.
Of course, it’s a calculation made on the basis that they all have the same abilities but it should be possible to get by since our side has overwhelmingly more numbers.
Also, our side had another weapon.
And that was none other than me myself.
“Let’s go!”
“Roar!!!”
The level 8 Black Tiger ran forward with a roar. The 2000 monsters following from behind started running at the same pace.
It was movement that resembled a well trained army. The monster army that didn’t know fear and didn’t leave any blank space charged towards the mermaid army.
A minimap created by the Recruitment skill appeared in front of my eyes.
Allies were green while enemies were red to be able to tell the situation easily and the size of the dots differed depending on the soldier’s ability.
“Hah!”
I swung the Dancing Sword on top of the Black Tiger.
The Dancing Sword that drew a large circle as if a string was attached sliced through the mermaid frontline.
The tridents the Mermaid Warriors were holding were all cut down from that one strike.
Did they give away their weapons instead of their lives?
I called back the Dancing Sword that used up all its Aura Blade and jumped off the Black Tiger.
“Roar!”
The Black Tiger jumped towards the center of the mermaids while the monsters following from behind also engaged in close combat.
No matter how powerful the Black Tiger was the mermaids were level 7 or 8 as well. It wasn’t possible for it to sweep through the battlefield on its own. Those guys had that much ability. It wasn’t simply the strength of their body.
They were taking care of the monsters with weapon mastery that surpassed humans.
If I wasn’t here, winning against these guys with just the 2000 monsters would have been a pipe dream.
However.
A mermaid splattered blood as its waist got cut in half.
I used a ranged attack to intimidate them in the beginning but Aura Blade originally showed maximum efficiency when used while held in one’s hand.
Every time I swung my sword, mermaids would be cut somewhere on their bodies together with their weapons.
A guy that got cut vertically. A guy that collapsed with his waist cut in half.
My surroundings soon started piling up with cut corpses of mermaids.
