F-Class Destiny Hunter - Chapter 111:
Chapter 111
“No! Something is wrong here! Gods, take back this divine judgement!”
Seong Eui-gyeol pleaded desperately, but the judgement was set in place. Like a person shackled on both arms and legs, Seong Eui-gyeol’s movements visibly slowed after receiving the penalty.
-Rooooar!
In contrast, the Diamond Guard raged even more fiercely, relentlessly attacking Seong Eui-gyeol. Seong Eui-gyeol, who took the Diamond Guard’s fists with his whole body, spat out blood.
“Cough!”
Watching this, Seo Gangrim felt relieved inside. Meanwhile, Seong Eui-gyeol glared at him as he dripped with blood.
“You coward…! Not even helping me!”
Seo Gangrim knew Seong Eui-gyeol was stupid, but he was even stupider than Seo Gangrim hought.
‘Attacking me then expecting me to save him.’
While leisurely observing this scene, Seo Gangrim heard a voice from his earpiece.
[Gangrim-ssi, Geoul and I came nearby.]
“Got it. Jang Taeheon, Yoon Bom, deactivate the device.”
[Yes!]
As the device was deactivated, the bluish aura surrounding the Diamond Guard disappeared. Nevertheless, the Diamond Guard was still beating Seong Eui-gyeol into a bloody mess. Then, as if sensing something, it stopped attacking and turned around.
[A more threatening enemy has appeared, changing attack priorities!]
“Gangrim-ssi, did we come too late?”
The more threatening enemies, Shin Sooah and Yoon Geoul, were walking over.
Seo Gangrim stood up while swallowing a recovery potion.
“No. You came at just the right time. I think we just need to finish up.”
“Take a rest. We’ll handle this.”
The Diamond Guard walked towards Shin Sooah and Yoon Geoul, still dripping with blood. Despite this, Shin Sooah’s expression remained cold. Then, her eyes sharply shone as her ability activated.
[The ability ‘Way of the Forest’ is activated!]
The moment she finished speaking, vines shot out from all directions, wrapping around the Diamond Guard’s limbs.
It struggled violently but the vines did not break. Shin Sooah was strong, and it had no magic power left after Seo Gangrim had hammered it down once already.
“Let’s finish it off when Bom and Taeheon arrive.”
They waited until the rest of the group joined before ending the Diamond Guard’s life. Then, a notification popped up in front of Seo Gangrim.
[First Great Demon Realm conquered!]
[Seo Gangrim, Shin Sooah, Yoon Winter, Yoon Bom, Jang Taeheon’s names spread far and wide!]
[Their patron god’s fame rises!]
[Additional rewards given to the top contributor Seo Gangrim!]
“Phew…”
After checking the reward notification, Seo Gangrim let out a long breath. It was troublesome in many ways but they had managed to clear it somehow.
At this time, people came up to him with worried expressions.
“Master, are you okay? You’re very injured…”
“Hyung-nim. Did you get beat by the boss? Anyway, who’s that guy over there dying?”
Jang Taeheon pointed to where Seong Eui-gyeol was. He was wheezing and struggling to breathe.
Seo Gangrim then briefly explained.
“An assassin of sorts that Sura sect sent to kill me.”
“An assassin…?”
“I’m not an assassin! I only came to reform a sinner!”
Seong Eui-gyeol still seemed to have some strength left as he shouted in a gravelly voice.
Shin Sooah looked down at Seong Eui-gyeol with cold eyes.
“I see you were sent by Sura sect. Were you told to kill Gangrim-ssi?”
“I was only asked to help redeem him. If Seo Gangrim admits his sins and enters Sura sect, they said they would forgive him… Argh!”
Before he could even finish speaking, a vine grabbed Seong Eui-gyeol and dragged him away harshly, and no matter how much the bound Seong Eui-gyeol struggled, Shin Sooah didn’t even glance at him.
She looked at Seo Gangrim e apologetically.
“I’m sorry, Gangrim-ssi. I’ve caused you unnecessary trouble.”
“No, it’s alright.”
Seo Gangrim did expect Shin Ara to make a move to some extent. After all, she had interfered in various ways in his past life too.
Seo Gangrim then spoke to everyone.
“Did you all receive the rewards?”
“Yes, Master! And I got such great items…!”
“Me too, Master! The Great Demon Realm is on a different level as expected!”
Everyone looked happy, so they seemed satisfied with the results. Seo Gangrim felt the same as he checked the rewards he received.
[Great Demon Realm raid rewards: 50,000 spirit pearls, Between Life and Death, Curse Tracker acquired!]
What he obtained were a black coat and a ring embedded with red jewels. He would have considered it a success to get just one, yet he received both.
First, I checked out the coat.
[Item] Between Life and Death
[Rank] Divine Third-class
[Description] Equipment imbued with the power of gods. Boasts excellent effects normally, but shines even brighter in a crisis.
When the wearer is in a near-death state, reflects received attacks at a 99% probability.
Between Life and Death, the first divine-class item to appear in the Great Demon Realm raid. It’s light and has high defense, and is immune to most fire and lightning attacks. But what Seo Gangrim like most is the attack reflection ability. His ability, Roar of the Rat, allows him exhibit immense strength instantly but has the drawback of only activating near death. A high risk, high return Divine Power that gambles his life. However, things change if he’s wearing Between Life and Death. With a 99% chance of reflecting all attacks, he’s virtually invincible. There’s a 1% chance of failure but no other items comes close.
The other item is a ring called Curse Tracker. As the name implies, if the wearer is cursed by someone, he can figure out who it was. In Seo Gangrim’s past life, he frequently suffered from inexplicable illness and misfortune for no reason. What if it was because of someone’s curse? And what if the curser was Baek Young? This item could provide a clue.
“Looks like we’re done here. Shall we get going?” Shin Sooah said, and Seo Gangrim nodded.
Jang Taeheon, meanwhile, looked at the sprawled Seong Eui-gyeol and asked, “What should we do about this bastard?”
Seong Eui-gyeol was quietly watching them, seemingly with an aggrieved expression. He showed no sign of remorse.
When Seo Gangrim approached, Seong Eui-gyeol flinched and hunched his shoulders in fear.
“You, you’re going to kill me! You villain!”
“Not really.”
There was little for me to gain by killing Seong Eui-gyeol here. Stealing his abilitie’s might be somewhat helpful, but there were too many eyes watching and it would only increase his karma, so he had no intention of getting blood on his hands.
“Anyway, with all the witnesses, the Destiny Protection Bureau will probably arrest you for attempted murder.”
“What, what?! Arrest me, an enforcer of justice?! That’s absurd!”
Screaming and shouting, Seong Eui-gyeol looked terrified. As someone called the hero of justice, being labeled a criminal must be his greatest fear.
Seo Gangrim looked at him silently for a second and said, “Prison would probably be better for you.”
“What? Why would that….”
Seo Gangrim suddenly sensed an intense gaze stabbing him from behind.
Dokgo Jun was watching thems. Or more precisely, watching Seong Eui-gyeol. He was smiling, but his eyes seemed ready to kill at any moment.
“There’s someone who hates loose ends.”
If Seong Eui-gyeol escaped unharmed, the one who would find it most intolerable was Dokgo Jun. By his standards, the villain who attacked the protagonist should no go completely unpunished. If Seo Gangrim just left Seong Eui-gyeol, Dokgo Jun would surely do something to him. But if Seong Eui-gyeol went to prison, he might avoid Dokgo Jun.
“If you want to live, go turn yourself in.”
Whether he went to jail or Dokgo Jun got his hands on him, Seong Eui-gyeol would be taken care of.
Leaving the bewildered Seong Eui-gyeol behind, Seo Gangrim exited the Great Demon Realm. Meanwhile, Dokgo Jun kept smiling at Seong Eui-gyeol.
Part 12: When a Nameless God is Born
“Did you hear the first Great Demon Realm was conquered in one go yesterday?”
As soon as Seo Gangrim went down to the hotel lobby, he heard people chatter. The hotel had been noisy since last night. He listened to their conversation with his hood pulled low.
“Yeah. They succeeded on the first try.”
“It’s called a Great Demon Realm so I thought it would be hard, but I guess not.”
“No, I heard it’s at least dragon-rank difficulty!”
They were excited even though they didn’t clear it themselves.
One person grumbled, “Right. I thought I was gonna die halfway through. I would’ve actually died if they didn’t clear it.”
“The people who cleared it were those guys, right? Seo Gangrim.”
Hearing his name, Seo Gangrim hunched his shoulders.
They continued enthusiastically, “Yeah, Seo Gangrim. From the Bureau’s training facility.”
“Come to think of it, I heard he’s staying at this hotel…”
Seo Gangrim headed towards the restaurant but turned back to take the elevator again. He felt like going to the restaurant now would draw too much attention. Hence, he decided to just order room service.
As the elevator went up, Seo Gangrim could feel the others inside glancing at him.
“Are you Seo Gangrim by any chance?”
“Looks like him…”
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
‘I’ll have to eat in my room for a while.’
As he was about to return to his room, he heard a gravelly voice.
“Oh, hyung!”
Seo Gangrim turned to see Jang Taeheon standing there. He came up to him with a bright smile and said, “What luck running into you. I was just coming to get you.”
“Coming to get me?”
“Yeah. We were gonna get together for breakfast. But people kept bothering us at the restaurant.”
It wasn’t just Seo Gangrim gaining fame. The others who were relatively unknown also rose to stardom after clearing the first Great Demon Realm. They must be getting love calls from all over too.
Coincidentally, Seo Gangrim wanted to discuss something regarding yesterday, so he followed Jang Taeheon.
“Master, you’re here!”
Everyone except Seo Gangrim had gathered inside. Well, Father Yohan wasn’t in the place either. He must have been called away by his church and wasn’t done yet.
Despite the big battle yesterday, everyone looked cheerful.
Jang Taeheon excitedly said, “Hyung, did you see the community? Our story is blowing up!”
“I saw.”
“We’re getting calls from all over after just one day! Even interview requests!”
Jang Taeheon seemed to be enjoying the popularity quite a bit. Well, it was indeed exciting.
Shin Sooah also said a little shyly, “I got contacted too. Many offers to join sects.”
“So will you be joining one?”
“No. I was thinking of making my own but…”
She pondered briefly before looking straight at me.
“Gangrim-ssi, do you have plans to create your own sect?”
