Chapter 682: Return – Part 3
Kira did not know what was happening and she blinked at Ivy in confusion while Ivy just smiled at her. She had already heard Max’s loud voice and she immediately let out a sigh of relief.
‘At least someone here still remembers my Dad.’ She thought with a smile but did not wait for Kira or even Max. Her father was waiting for her and she immediately took to her heels, not before darting a sympathetic glance at Kira. The lady still had no idea what had happened.
“Dad, let’s go. I’ll show you to your office. You might have shocked someone and it will not be long before he comes running to see you.” She explained, her smirk widening in amusement.
Neither Oliver nor Joshua asked her what had happened for they more or less had perceived the situation. So, they just followed Ivy silently as she led them to the office specifically reserved for her father.
“And Dad, this will be your office from now onwards.” She opened the door and Oliver took in the place, his eyes not revealing his thoughts. Yet, he could not hide the smile of appreciation that had settled on his lips.
Though he was still angry at Noah, he still appreciated all that the man had done for him and his family and he could not be anymore contented. He nodded lightly to himself and looked at his office, his heart surging with unexplainable emotions. He was finally back.
Oliver stared at the swiveling chair and took his seat. An odd sense of satisfaction filled his heart and his eyes burned with determination. How long had he been waiting for this day? To come out and show the world that he, Oliver West was alive and was ready to kick some ass. He could not control his joy and a drop of tear slipped down his cheek.
Ivy, too, could not control herself when she saw the scene in front of her and she wiped her tears silently. But it did not go unnoticed by the man who was watching her closely. Joshua hugged her shoulder immediately and patted her arm gently, comforting her silently.
But the peace was momentary. Barely had Ivy composed herself when Max came in bursting through the door with Kira, Sasha and Cedric right behind him, forcing Ivy and Joshua to break the hug much to Joshua’s dismay.
‘How annoying! Can’t these people come a little later?’ Joshua cursed in his mind even though he stayed impassive.
Max was too busy staring at Oliver that he did not notice anything else while Kira, Sasha and Cedric just panted lightly courtesy of the short sprint they had done a few seconds ago, darting Ivy questioning glances, wondering what had happened.
“Mr. We…West?” Max fumbled when he saw the man occupying the chair meant for the Vice President of the news agency. “Are you really here?”
While Kira, Sasha and Cedric looked at Max as though he was a lunatic, the remaining three people in the room just smiled lightly understanding the reason behind his question.
“What do you think, Mister?” Oliver raised his brows slightly as he stood up and Max sucked in a deep breath.
“You are alive, Mr. West. You are alive.” Max exclaimed in shock while the three people behind him were yet to discern what was happening.
“Ivy, why did you not tell me that your father is alive?” Max turned towards the lady who was trying hard to hide herself from him and glared at her even though his eyes held anything but anger.
As soon as the words left his mouth, silence filled the room, and Kira, Sasha and Cedric grasped the situation.
“What the fuck!!” Sasha cursed loudly and it was only when Cedric jabbed her lightly that she understood what she had done.
None of the three people in the group were clueless as to who Oliver was and what happened to him three years ago. But to the world, he had been dead even if Ivy and her sister had claimed time and again for him to be only missing. Now that the man in question was standing in front of them, they could not help but be surprised. It was too appalling and thrilling and they could not control their expressions of shock and confusion whatsoever.
“Is that Oliver West?” Cedric whispered and only Kira and Sasha heard him. “The Oliver West?” It was not his fault though. Oliver looked anything like the world knew him to be. He had lost some weight and even his jaw had turned sharp, making him look all the more determined and confident.
“Well, I…How…” Ivy fought to find the right word.
“I forbade her to reveal anything about me.” Oliver chimed, saving her from the unwanted predicament she was in. “I presume you all know how the situation was, with constant threats to my family and me, it was best we stayed hidden until I recuperated.”
“I understand, Mr. West. I am really glad that you are back and will be guiding us.” Max beamed in delight and the other three people followed suit. Even if they were still astounded, they were also exhilarated at the same time and it was evident from the huge smiles on their faces.
“Thank you very much. You all are doing a great job. I have monitored your work and I am impressed with all of you. Keep up the good work.” Oliver did not forget to add words of appraisal and it was not just for show or to impress his juniors. He was genuinely contented with their work.
“Thank you, Sir. We will work hard and make sure to live up to your expectations.” Kira finally broke out of her shock and added before darting a wink at Ivy.
“I’m sure you will. I have no doubt about that. May I have a word in private with Maximus? I just need to know anything I might have missed. It would not be good if I appeared sloppy on the first day of my return. It would not be good for my image.”
Oliver’s words lightened the mood and everyone smiled before they took their leave, leaving Max to handle the matter.
