Father, I Won’t Do Anything - Chapter 17
“Can you throw darts, kid?”
“Darts?”
At Michael’s words, Jayna pulled her neck out and looked straight ahead.
‘Dart competition?’
From a distance, a moderator with a loudspeaker enchanted with voice magnification was calling people.
“Well, whoever gets the highest score will get the prize they want!”
The rules were simple. Whoever gets the highest score becomes the winner.
At what Michael said, Jayna decided to participate in the darts competition.
She had never thrown darts before, but it seemed to be fun just to participate regardless of the outcome.
“Is Michael-nim not participating?”
“If I join, I’ll be the one to claim first place.”
He’s a disciple of the Towerlord. But could he really be that good in throwing darts in order to rank first?
Magic is a skill that requires accuracy and precision.
But of course, throwing a tool like a dart is different from throwing a fireball made out of mana.
“Good luck, little kid!”
Jayna paid the participation fee in order to be able to participate in the competition.
But none of the magic she learned has the kind of magic that involves throwing something away.
So it seems impossible for Jayna to throw the darts well.
“I didn’t participate because I’m being considerate, but if you don’t get the first place, I won’t let you go.” (Michael)
Michael said, with his hands resting on his waist.
‘That’s not a cheer, is it?’
Jayna reluctantly accepted the numbering tag without knowing that Michael’s dictionary had no word for ‘concession’.
Since she came in late, her turn was close to the end.
Participants laughed loudly when they saw Jayna participating next to them.
“Aren’t darts dangerous to little ones?”
“Hey, do you even know how to throw darts?”
It’s a little child who still has its baby fats.
Other participants didn’t even consider Jayna as a competitor at all.
It was because her posture gives off a vibe that she hasn’t thrown a dart before, and there was no visible sign of tension at all.
Maybe she’s just trying to make memories and experience.
“The little one is so cute.”
But that was only for a short moment…
syuuuk!
When Jayna threw a dart which has landed in the middle of the dartboard, everyone looked at her with their mouths hanging open.
“What, what, was that a dart?”
“Were you born with a dart in your hand?”
Unlike other people’s violent reactions, Jayna’s expression was calm. She shook off her hand that threw the dart.
‘It’s easier than I thought.’
It was her first time throwing a dart, but after a few throws, she easily gott the hang of it.
Syuk!
Jayna threw darts one after another. And the more darts were thrown, the higher her score was.
“Whoa.”
Unfortunately, the center has only been hit once, but so far, Jayna has been the highest-scoring contestant.
‘It’s still young, but a dragon is a dragon.’
The dragon’s unique sensitivity and concentration were optimal for darts. Jayna got more and more interested in the darts.
“The little lady is pretty good?”
“Well, the first place holder in this competition will surely be her”
Although Jenna’s expression was as cool and composed as ever, a slightly pink tint can be seen on her cheeks.
“Wow, little lady, you’re a good dart thrower!”
“Have you been throwing darts all your life?”
Participants and audiences all gazed at Jayna with amazement and bewilderment. It was mostly a favorable view.
“Hey, Dartrissch, you said you’d be the winner of this dart competition.”
“Didn’t you say you’d buy a drink with the prize money?”
“You’re noisy!”
Jayna looked sideways. A man named Dartrissch was sitting next to her.
Unlike Jayna, he was a high-scoring contestant right from the get go.
However, due to his weakening back, he made some few errors. His score seemed to be on par with Jayna’s.
Tingling!
Dartrissch’s fiery gaze was fired at Jayna.
“I don’t know that a puny child can be so scary, I should have keep my eyes wide open from the start.”
It was a quiet grunt that no one could have heard except for her.
Is that what he wants to say?
Jayna slightly frowned at the thought that Dartrissch tried to vent his anger on her.
A grown-up should set a good example for a young child like her.
“Now then, it’s Dartrissch’s turn!”
Jayna also scored high enough, but because she was still at a beginner’s level, she had a similar score with Dartrissch.
Dartrissch’s darts this time would determine who would win the first place position.
With a determined look on his face, Dartrissch took the dart. Then, he threw the whole thing with all his might.
“Huh? Ugh, ahh!”
But it was at that moment.
Dartrissch fell over face first, as if he has suddenly lost his balance as if someone was forcing him to fall down.
“Ahhhhh!”
One, two, and….
In a seemingly impossible move, Dartrissch rolled around, rolling his body all over the piles of dirt.
“Ah-ha-ha, what the hell is that!”
“He’s not confident in darts, so he was just going to make us laugh with something else?”
“This is much more fun than his darts.”
People who passed by also stopped out of curiosity, and laughed when they saw Dartrissch’s ugly fall.
“Iih, iik”
After that, several more participants have followed. However, it was all passive moves, perhaps due to seeing Jayna and Dartrissch earlier.
Soon, all the contestants’ rounds were over.
The host laughed while staring at the scoreboard.
“The winner of this dart competition is the cute little lady!”
When Jayna’s right arm was being lifted up by the host, applause poured out.
“You can choose the product you want for the first prize. What would you like?”
Jayna took a look at the merchandise available.
Magic lamp which is the most practical, magic safe to hide emergency money…..
It was all precious.
For a dart competition held in the market, the prizes were very luxurious.
But Jayna isn’t in need of those.
“I’ll take this.”
The surroundings became noisy. The host taken aback asked as if to make sure.
“Are you sure you want a teddy bear?”
“Yes.”
“This is actually not the first prize, but one of the participating prizes. Are you still going for this teddy bear?”
Jayna nodded again.
For Jayna who lives in the tower, mana lights and other magic devices were useless.
….Of course, she knew things that are cozy and cute like a teddy bear doesn’t suit her. But she wanted to have something to celebrate since she won the contest. That’s it, really.
‘Why am I so embarrassed? It would have been nice if there were other good things to choose from…’
Jayna’s cheeks, which had been flushed while throwing darts, hardly cooled down.
“You picked a doll that suits you, little girl.”
The organizer of the contest was in favor on her chosen item, perhaps because Jayna didn’t pick out an expensive item.
“Here you go. By the way, how would you carry this?”
As he said this, it seemed difficult for Jayna to carry a giant doll alone. The weight was also heavy, but it was more because it was too big for her.
Jayna wobbled, unable to keep her balance at every step she takes.
“Huh?”
Michael, who walked towards where Jayna is, took the teddy bear.
“Oh, I just couldn’t help it when I see a poor kid.” (Michael)
He easily lifted Jayna’s hard-fought teddy bear with one hand. Unlike Jayna, it was a movement fluid with ease.
“Ha, kid. Why are you smaller than a doll?” (Michael)
“I’m still growing, though it’s a tad bit slow.”
“You’re not even sure if you’re going to grow at all, do you? I guess I should start calling you a bad-grown tadpole instead of little kid.”(Michael)
Michael, who shrugged, cast a chilly glance at Dartrissch before leaving his seat.
“How dare you—” (Michael)
But as soon as he felt Jayna’s gaze, he immediately coughed in vain.
“Uhm…Dartrissch seem to be better than an average guy at throwing darts.” (Michael)
Jayna sharply lit her eyes.
Because he is acting like this, his behavior toward the other man seems uncanny.
Of course, it’s on the bad side.
“You just helped me, didn’t you?”
“No?”
Michael threw out a answer to Jayna’s interrogation.
Jayna was positively convinced by that quick response.
If he really didn’t know anything, he would have asked back ‘What?’ instead of ‘No?’
However, he’s acting squeamish and avoiding her gaze.
“Have you heard all of the bad things Dartrissch said to me?” (Jayna)
“What a horrible guy to scold a tadpole who has not yet become a frog” (Michael)
Michael deliberately shifted the subject.
“But what do you mean bad things, were you able to listen to it? I should have used magic to blown him right then and there.”
“What’s going to blow isn’t magic, but most probably a human’s neck.
Jayna jokingly said, but Michael patted his chin with a pleased look. It wasn’t a playful attitude at all.
“To blow away a neck. I kind of like that.”
To be happy about the idea of blowing a person’s neck. His description as the right-hand man of the final boss befits him so well.
Looking at Michael, who was thinking up ways on how he will blow a person’s neck, Jayna can’t help but sighed.
“I don’t even know how many kinds of magic I can do. I can’t even try to move people at will like Michael-nim.”(Jayna)
As she was sighing, she heard someone calling her from behind.
“Little kid, didn’t you come out to play with your brother? Is it fun?” (Stall owner)
When Jayna turned around, she saw a stall owner.
When she glanced to her side, she saw Michael shifting his eyes while waiting for her to answer.
‘He really has all sorts of emotions reflecting on his face.’
What if she said it wasn’t fun? She had a mischievous thought for a moment, but Jayna answered honestly.
“Yes, it’s fun. Being here and spending time with my brother.”
‘He wouldn’t hate me now just because I called him brother, right?’
She just followed the street vendor’s call.
“Hmm, hmm hmm.”
Michael coughed. He looked somewhat satisfied.
He looks even more excited, than when he was thinking of ways to blow Dartrissch’s throat.
‘Why does he like it so much?’
“Really? You seem to be having a lot of fun. Then you’ll buy her one of these, won’t you?”(Stall owner)
The stall owner laughed at Michael.
“It’s very delicious. It has also many flavors. The supply to the nobles is made here too. “(Stall owner)
“Okay….”
“I think you came out with your sister for the first time, so you don’t know that it’s popular to buy something like this.” (Stall owner)
The stall owner noticed Michael’s flinch and widened his eyes.
