Father, I Won’t Do Anything - Chapter 18
“You came to the market to have fun, right? Can’t you at least buy your younger sister some candy? That would be really nice.”
The stall owner redirected his target and spoke to Jayna.
“Tell your brother to buy you this candy. It tastes better when you try it yourself.”
The stall owner broadly smiled.
“Oppa*, buy me this, I’m hungry!”
T/N: *(Oppa (오빠)=Older brother, but it’s more endearing.)
“Kiheok, kuk!”
Michael, who just recovered from his previous coughing, started to repeatedly coughed again after hearing those words.
When the cough has gotten worse, Jayna helps him by patting his back with her small hand.
Slap, slap!
The action was done with a pure heart and good intentions mixed with worry for Michael’s condition. And wasn’t absolutely mixed, with bad intentions, like she usually feels towards him.
“Are you all right, Michael-nim?”
“What! Michael-nim? Wasn’t it brother?”
Then, the stall owner reacted in a puzzled voice.
“Ah, I think shouldn’t have said that. It’s just that I thought you were close because you were laughing together.”
Jayna was listening without much thought, but Michael whose coughing had already ceased, suddenly responded angrily.
“Was it you who said that!?”
“N-no, I- you don’t have to be so angry. Anyway, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.”
The stall owner tried to step back immediately after he found out that Michael was a much more difficult and troublesome target than he thought.
But Michael didn’t seem willing to let it go. He felt a certain twitch in his temper somewhere.
‘He’s not going to do anything troublesome like what he did to Dartrissch, is he?’ (Jayna)
Is Michael really going to cut Dartrissch throat? But it’s been a long time since Jayna came outside and enjoyed watching the market.
‘I’m not sure, but he’s angry because he thinks the stall owner ridiculed him, right?’
How about an operation to divert Michael’s attention?
If someone can hear what Jayna’s is thinking on her mind right now, they would assume she was going crazy…
After thinking for a while, Jayna decided to sacrifice herself.
Jayna smiled as she grabbed Michael’s sleeves.
“Oppa, buy me this!”
It was at that moment.
Michael’s eyes, which seemed to be unable to discern what’s happening, were soon filled with surprise.
“What, what, what, what?”
Michael’s face turned red in an instant. It was staggeringly fast that those who were watching was astonished.
And it wasn’t just Michael alone that was embarrassed.
Jayna, startled by Michael’s fierce reaction, even doubted on what she’s seeing.
‘Why are you like this?’ (Jayna)
Fortunately, Jayna’s intentions succeeded.
Surprisingly, Michael was now in a state of dispersing his hostility toward the stall owner…
No, it seemed that he had gone beyond that stage and already erased the other person’s existence.
“Why, why all of a sudden…?”
Michael started to talk in gibberish manner, making it hard to understand what he’s saying.
Jayna managed to straighten her face that was full of questions in regards to Michael’s action. Pointing out his current state, wouldn’t be a good idea right now and could have a big consequence later.
‘I don’t know but, the intention was successful anyway.’
Jayna spoke as calmly as she possibly could, trying not to look at Michael.
“I’m a dragon, so I eat a lot, so please buy me two.”
***
‘I didn’t know that he would really buy it.’
Jayna was walking while holding candy in both hands. A little daze with what has transpired.
Yeah, she did ask him to buy her candies.
She also said that she eats a lot.
But she specified to buy her only two candies. Now, what is this?
“You know you can’t eat it all in one day just because I bought you a lot, right?”
Jayna never thought he’d buy all the candies that the street vendor was selling, as well as those sold in the shops around it.
“…….Thank you for the candies.”
But she didn’t need a mountain load of candy like this.
Unlike Jayna, who was embarrassed, Michael seemed very proud.
He grinned and said.
“If you’re really thankful, show me some tricks.”
From the way he spoke, Michael seemed to have returned to his usual rude and insolent self.
However for Jayna, she prefers this side of his more because it was easier to deal with.
“Do something interesting.” (Michael)
Jayna slightly ignored Michael’s words. Then, Michael said with a straight face.
“Your teeth may rot so I’ll only give you one every day.”
‘You’re not really worried about my teeth rotting, but rather happy to have a mean of controlling me.’
“Can I have three?” (Jayna)
“Hmm…. Since you’re so eager, I’ll consider two.” (Michael)
‘Success.’
Jayna gently stepped back. Her original goal was to increase the number of candies from one to two.
The candy was big and colorful.
It was perfect size for Jayna’s small mouth.
It was bought from several stores, so each tasted different.
If he’ll give her two every day, how long will it take for her to taste all the candy he bought today?
‘I’m already looking forward for tomorrow.’
This must be her small luxury. Jayna smiled softly.
Michael, who has been a little excited for a while then said to her.
“You said earlier there was no magic you could use, then can I teach you some?”
“What?” (Jayna)
“What’s with that unbelievable expression for. Do you think I’m lying?”
“Not really…”
For wizards, their job was nothing of sort that can be classified as ordinary.
Telling others about their research, and spending their precious time in other things, than researching were the things wizards hated the most. So no matter how close, they were with a person they still wouldn’t teach them or even share their knowledge with them.
It was an unwritten common sense that even non-magicians knew. But…
The man, who will be the right-hand man of the final boss in the novel, was now trying to teach Jayna magic.
‘Are you serious?’
It was really unbelievable, but from what Michael had said, it didn’t seem to be a lie.
The two soon found a vacant lot around them.
“It may be hard to move people as what I did earlier*, but look carefully.”
T/N: *(He was talking about how he move and make Dartrissch fall and rolled around)
As soon as the words were over, Michael’s hair began to swing with the wind.
The mana in his body and the mana around him were reacting to each other.
Michael reached into the air with a confident face. Then, the stilled air turned cool.
“Hmm, let’s start with the basics.”
Whiing!
A highly, concentrated gust of wind began to blow from Michael’s hand.
At first, the wind began weakly but started to turn into something stronger the more Michael put in magical power.
“Magician has properties, so it’s hard to use magic, other than the one that suits you best or your compatible with, but try to imitate this. Maybe wind magic might suit you well.”
Then Michael taught Jayna a few tricks and spells.
Whoo-woo-ooh!
Jayna, who was staring at Michael, carefully reached out into the air.
She could feel a little coolness spreading out.
“Like this?”
“Yes, since you’re part of the Black Night clan (Hogya), it won’t probably be hard for you to deal with other magic than the dark mag- huh…? Argh….!”
Wheeiiing!
The wind made by Jayna’s hand quickly grew bigger than Michael’s, and suddenly began to swirl like a storm.
Jayna’s wind filled Michael’s sight.
He could clearly see the strands of mana in the wind.
‘This magical affinity……. Is this because she’s a dragon?’
But something was different. He didn’t know much about the dragon race, but this didn’t seem to be a race trait.
And, not long after, Michael smelled a familiar scent.
Michael raised his head.
If it wasn’t due to her race…
‘Then was it because she’s the daughter of the Towerlord?’
Michael was lost in his thought for a moment.
“Huh?”
Then Michael suddenly felt something strange and raised his head.
Hwiiiik!
In the blue sky, Jayna was flyig away like a shooting like an arrow.
***
All she did was inadvertently put her hands slightly down.
But suddenly, her body rises to the sky.
‘I never thought I’d fly in the sky like this.’
hwiiiing!
The sky was very blue today.
Being a dragon, she never expected to fly in the sky in human form.
It was new to her, but it was not the time to appreciate it.
If she falls incorrectly, she could get seriously hurt or, in the worst case, die.
‘I still have a long way from being 17. However it looks like I’m not going to die by the dragon’s killing anymore, but rather with my own magic….’
After a moment of embarrassment, Jayna immediately came to her senses.
The more urgent the situation is, the more she had to stay calm.
Jayna focused all her attention on controlling the wind she had created.
hwiiiing!
However, it was not easy to control since it was the first time she made something like this and also because the wind was too strong.
Moreover, the more mana is being used, the stronger it felt as if the wind was rejecting her magic.
‘Is it because, I am a member of the Black Night clan, as Michael said?’
“Hey! Relax your body! And slowly put it (the wind she created) into the air!”
Then, Jayna could hear Michael screaming down from below.
Jayna, following Michael’s words, slowly drained the force from her body and slowly let the wind she had created be released back into the air.
“Huh, Hyuk, ····”
Then, as the wind began to scatter in the air, she felt it gradually weaken.
‘Now all I have to do is keep my balance.’
As soon as Jayna looked down at the ground for landing, her body began to fall at a rapid pace.
“What do we do now?” (Jayna)
“Wind- wind, conjure some wind up from underneath!” (Michael)
Jayna grasped the rest of the wind with all her might, and shot it under her. It was to reduce the impact from falling down.
Fortunately, the speed decreased, but Jayna couldn’t land properly and crashed into the ground as her balance was disarrayed.
Gwaang!
“Uh…”
Fortunately, she was able to avoid having fatal injuries by reflexively wrapping her body with the wind right before the crash, but the impact was enormous enough to create a deep hole in the ground.
“Did someone just fall from the sky?”
“A wizard?”
“I think someone got hit…”
‘Did I hit a person?’
Jayna, who barely got up, looked around. As the dust dissipated, she now could see the messy surrounding.
From the looks of various shop stalls, she’s still seemed to be in the market.
Fortunately, there was no damage due to falling in a vacant lot, but a boy was seen laying a few steps away from her.
‘No way, is he dead?’
Did she just kill someone unintentionally?
