Father, I Won’t Do Anything - Chapter 46
‘You’ve got to look as good as you can to him.’
[T/N: Charbish talking to herself here]
Charlotte dressed up more than usual and then headed to the Tower Lord.
A mysterious light was floating in front of his door.
Charlotte swallowed.
As she followed the light, numerous scenery passed through the window.
Snowy forest, burning deserts under the sun’s heat, rain falling over the lake…
Wherever she went, the Tower still remained as a mysterious place.
However, the dangerous traps and statues which acted as guardians was not something Charlotte was able to get used to. Charlotte felt as if she had entered a den of demons.
‘If I became the Lady of this Tower… I’ll definitely need to change this place to something more colourful and beautiful.’
Charlotte clenched her fist.
‘We have to get rid of all peculiar items and decorate the Tower following the latest trend in the Capital.’
‘Wouldn’t the Tower Lord like that more? This place is full of idiotic wizards.
Well, even though they are fools, it was clear that each one of them is about as strong as a weapon.
‘But it wasn’t a bad idea to teach them proper manners and earn their loyalty in return,’ thought Charlotte.
The esteemed Lady of the Wizard’s Tower that everyone feared!
While dreaming, her footsteps hastened.
After a while, Charlotte arrived at the door of Diamide’s study.
“Greetings to Tower Lord, this is Charlotte de Marjeansson.”
Charlotte bowed her head in nervousness, before raising it again. Then, she saw the face of the Tower Lord, whom she hadn’t seen for a long time.
Dark eyebrows which made his pale skin stand out, clear blue eyes comparable to the deep blue sea, and a beautiful jawline that looked as if it was drawn by a brush.
‘How could he have such a noble appearance?’
Charlotte, who had eye contact with Diamide, blushed and bowed her head once again.
‘He hasn’t changed a bit since I last saw him when I was 13.’
Like someone who had reached the top, he looked as if time had stood still for him. He wasn’t the hero who saved the world from the evil spirit king for no reason.
[T/N: “The top” refers to a cultivation stage, yes cn cultivation. Don’t come at me y’all I didn’t know cultivation’d be here either]
“I have called you here because you’ve worked extremely hard. Is there anything you lack?”
“Yes, thankfully Tower Lord has taken very good care of me…”
“I don’t think you have done anything to deserve those words.”
“Pardon? That’s…”
Charlotte stuttered, and a low chuckle came to her ears. She smiled when she realized he had been joking.
‘This is a good atmosphere!’
The Tower Lord had a low, husky voice, unlike his face, which would be inevitably called beautiful.
His voice was so good that Charlotte blushed.
“Seeing that you have not said much, I personally think you’re teaching well. The child you’re in charge of is a good kid.”
Diamide smiled, then continued talking.
“I’ve got a knack for putting people in awkward situations.”
“Oh my Goodness.”
“I think you have gone through a lot.”
Charlotte nodded. She was nervous at first, but when Diamide who was infamous for his cold and indifferent personality had become friendly, she gradually relaxed.
With a friendly smile and low voice… Has Diamide ever treated any women like this?
‘Tower Lord, you must have liked me!’
Charlotte’s heart was pounding. Charlotte agreed with him while touching her flushed face.
Fortunately, the subject of the conversation was what she could talk about best.
“To be honest, you don’t know how lazy and spiteful she is. That’s the reason why her skills haven’t improved at all. I’m not trying to show off but I’m an extremely dedicated person. I don’t know what would’ve happened if there was another teacher instead of me.”
Diamide raised his hand suggesting he already knew everything. Charlotte then stopped talking and looked at him.
“How is the progress of the song in the necklace?”
“Actually, I have been trying to teach her another song, not that one. It would take quite a while to thoroughly explain the reason but in short, it would be better to improve her skills first.”
“I see, I’m sure you will take care of it properly.”
Diamide unexpectedly rose from his seat and began speaking in a low tone. He was acting in a cool manner, as if he wanted to seduce Charlotte.
“Then can you play me the song that you’re teaching? I don’t think she’s going to play it properly.”
“Of course. That child has very small hands making the song off-tune.”
“Then it would take her years to play it properly, right?”
“Yes, this song can’t be played without my help.”
Charlotte took out the pocket she had brought just in case.
The pocket was a gift from the Tower Lord to show his gratitude towards her for being a teacher. The extra-dimensional storage pocket had the ability to store large items in it.
“Oh, I’m using the item gifted to me by Tower Lord. It’s late, but I would like to thank you for giving it to me.”
Charlotte took the harpsichord out of her subspace pocket, took a deep breath and began to play.
‘The Lord of the Tower is watching me.’
She was worried that her hands would shake as she was nervous, but fortunately they moved just as they normally did. Soon, Charlotte, who became intoxicated with her brilliant performance, closed her eyes and began playing the harpsichord.
Around halfway through the song, Charlotte opened her eyes to observe Diamide’s reaction.
Unlike before, Diamide had a firm face.
‘Are you enjoying the performance?’
Then Diamide opened his mouth.
“You’ve made her play this song and yet you told me she’s not improving…”
“Yes?”
Charlotte sensed that the atmosphere was unusual and stopped playing.
Diamide’s eyes looked different compared to before. His cold gaze was piercing through her.
“So no matter how hard she practiced with her little hands, she wouldn’t have improved.”
“Huh? Yes? Tower Lord, what do you..?
Charlotte stuttered in embarrassment, and then remembered what she had said earlier.
“That… I said something incorrect so I could flatter myself!”
“Are you implying that what I’d heard was incorrect? That song was definitely one she shouldn’t be learning. It wasn’t even similar to the song in the necklace at all. I can’t believe you’re labelling her as a lazy and spiteful child when you, yourself, are teaching her that kind of song…”
Charlotte’s face became pale. She felt something was going wrong so she tried to divert the meaning of her words, but such lies didn’t work on Diamide.
“It’s true that I didn’t think well of that child, but that was because I admire the Tower Lord!”
Charlotte quickly approached Diamide, and begged him with teary eyes.
“I know that she is the Tower Lord’s child. However, my Lord hasn’t claimed her as your own. Is that not because her mother has a poor background?”
Charlotte’s face was reflected on the surface of Diamide’s eyes. His eyes were colder than ever before.
“Take me as your spouse. Then I will replace that lowly girl with the proud son of the Tower Lord and with noble blood of the Marjeansson family…”
“Lowly?”
Diamide’s face was distorted, he looked as if he was looking at garbage.
“T-tower Lord!”
Bezriche was obviously the woman who toyed him and left. However, when he heard that she was from lowly origins, anger erupted from his mind without him knowing why.
He was sure that he had sealed his emotions, but why was he so agitated?
Why did he have to hide his feelings and facial expressions, when it’s nothing special?
In fact, it was strange for him to accept a person of a mixed race as an escort.
He had never looked at the Neanders before, but all of a sudden he got him as an escort.
[T/N: If your like me, and forgot who the Neanders are, it’s Izren’s race]
Diamide, in fact, already knew the answer. He was just pretending not to know.
Perhaps it was because Diamide saw her (Bezriche) in Jayna.
“Don’t show me your face ever again.”
Diamide looked straight at Charlotte with a look of disdain, showing he didn’t even want to look at her. That is the last time he will meet her.
“Ahhhhh!”
Charlotte felt mana engulf her. Charlotte screamed in fear when the overwhelming power struck her quickly like a waterfall.
“Arghhh, ugh…”
How long had it been since she had closed her eyes in fear?
Bang!
With a slight jolt, Charlotte gently opened her eyes.
She must have fallen somewhere, but seeing the sunlight shining on her, she didn’t think it was hell.
“W-what a relief. But where am I?”
Diamide didn’t seem so angry that he would kick Charlotte out of the tower and kill her.
Charlotte recalled his last expression.
‘If I came back and begged for your forgiveness, will you forgive me?’
But her fantasy was soon shattered.
“There are too many people who crossed a line which shouldn’t be crossed.”
“That’s right. Those people don’t know how to be considerate or polite.”
Voices of cheerful women came from somewhere.
Charlotte got up from her seat out of joy. However, she had to stop because she couldn’t take more steps.
[Q/N: I think she was teleported out of the tower… so she probably landed on her butt?]
She felt as if she had cut her ankle due to the shock from her fall.
“But don’t you hear the rustling noise somewhere?”
“Well, over there…”
It was considered rude to show up at an aristocratic gathering without an invite, but Charlotte wasn’t too concerned about that. She might get embarrassed for a moment, but her reputation in society was extraordinary. Everyone would wait and make a reservation to listen to her performance.
‘They would be a little surprised at first, but will soon welcome me.’
However, it was unfortunate for Charlotte that she didn’t know where she exactly was.
“Oh, I can hear someone from this side.”
Charlotte brightened at the sound of people approaching. She planned on making a cute and cheerful expression.
“What are you doing here?”
“Eh, Your Majesty Elia?”
However, Charlotte’s eyes soon hardened with embarrassment.
“I believe that Lady Charlotte has not been invited to this meeting?”
“Your Majesty Elia, did you invite her?”
“No, this is the first I’ve heard of this.”
When Empress Elia appeared before her, Charlotte began thinking.
Her fingertips trembled without her realizing it.
