Fenrir’s Journey: I Shall Devour The Heavens - Chapter 34
Within Heavenly Moon City, unless you were one of the major Clans or Sects, you had a curfew that usually required you to stay indoors after the sun went down. Though there weren’t any major penalties, being discovered walking around in the dark could get you suspected for criminal intent. As a result, most shops, outside of a certain glowing red district, didn’t stay open very long after darkness had fallen upon the city. Since Fenrir had been aware of this fact, as the gates usually closed after the sun had started to disappear over the horizon, she too spent the night quietly in her room…
At least, that is how Fenrir intended to spend the evening. A few hours after most people would have gone to sleep, Fenrir detected the presence of three people sneaking around her room. They could have just been other people staying in the Inn, but she had always been very perceptive with abnormally developed senses. Not only were her instincts sharper than most animals, but all six of Fenrir’s senses were hyper-developed.
She could track smells over thousands of kilometers with each, see vast distances, regardless of how much light was available, discern hundreds of different sounds simultaneously, and even senses the flow of energy in and around her body. Her sense of touch had always been a little dull, as her nerves were apparently deeper than normal, but her ‘awareness’ of everything around her body had always been very high. As for taste…well, before she came to this world, Fenrir had graded things based on how ‘crunchy’ they were, not their flavor…
With her enhanced senses, and even sharper instincts, Fenrir knew these three men had undoubtedly come here for her. Realizing this, her scarlet eyes had started to glow because, even though she put in so much effort not to draw attention to herself, trouble came to find her. These men were obviously stronger than normal civilians, so Fenrir believed they were likely the members of a Clan, or the servants of a Sect. She didn’t know who had taken notice of her, but Fenrir could hardly restrain her killing intent knowing that, even with her efforts to avoid trouble, there were people in this world that thought so highly of themselves that they sought death at her claws.
While pretending to be deep in her meditation, Fenrir waited for the men to make their move, knowing their guard would be lowered if they thought her’s already was. Then, somewhat against her expectations, a smell started to spread through the room that was both odorless, but ‘annoying’ smelling at the same time. Realizing they were trying to play dirty, Fenrir stopped caring about her act and just leaned forward slightly. The moment her feet touched the floor, Fenrir vanished from her spot and, as if not time had passed at all, the entire wall where the men had been hiding had become a blooming ice flower.
Not even bothering to check the corpses of the three men, Fenrir ignored that chaos that had started to spread in the surrounding rooms and, as she passed by the owner of the Inn, drew her claws across his neck without a word. The man fell to the ground, gurgling blood as he tried to stymy the large volume of deep red life essence draining from his wound. Fenrir had noticed that, unlike the panic of other people, the man seemed somewhat ‘surprised’ to see her and tried to say something. Since she had made so much effort to hide her trail, the only way they could have known which room she was in required someone to tell them…
(Fenrir’s Commentary: ‘The moon is full. Tonight, I shall hunt. Master, please give me strength…’)
