Fenrir’s Journey: I Shall Devour The Heavens - Chapter 76
With the death of their Supreme Elder, the few surviving Elders of the Blazing Sun Sect could only bring their hands together and lower their heads as the eldest among them exclaimed, “We had eyes but could not see! Please, have mercy on us venerable one! The Blazing Sun Sect will never bother the Devouring Moon Sect ever again…!” Though they all had a great deal of resentment towards Fenrir and the Devouring Moon Sect after this, they needed to buy time if they were to have any hopes of achieving their vengeance.
Knowing that words were almost meaningly when coming from people like this, Fenrir simply snorted before saying, “I gave you multiple chances and it is only after the strongest among you failed to win that you finally ‘pretend’ to listen. You think I can’t feel your hostility…!?” Though they hadn’t drawn attention to it, Fenrir knew that at least a few of the Elders had seen through her use of Devouring Laws. Knowing it would be troublesome to deal with powerful foes coming after her, she had no intention of letting anyone of significant strength escape from her today.
The moment Fenrir’s words reached their ears, the surviving Elders all broke off in different directions, completely abandoning the Disciples maintaining the barrier below. They didn’t believe for a moment that the barrier would be able to stop Fenrir’s attacks for long so they didn’t want to be anywhere near when she finally broke through. What they didn’t expect was, from the moment they moved to flee, Fenrir had moved through the barrier like a phantom as she began tearing into their bodies. Some tried to muster their qi to resist but Fenrir’s Ice Elemental energy weakened their flames while reducing their movement speed. She made short work of the remaining Elders before turning her eyes down to the panicking disciples below.
Fenrir knew that not everyone within the Sect was a bad person so she ignored the majority of Disciples and instead focused on those that had bloody auras or scents similar to the Elders. Many of these were the ‘young masters’ of the Sect, young men who had lived without restraint because of the backing of their Sect and lineage. Even the most prodigious amongst them was unable to survive a single exchange against Fenrir, causing the inert volcano to become an icy tundra after less than an hour had passed. This still left thousands of Disciples alive, many left shivering as they hunched down and prayed that death did not come for them…
After her slaughter had come to an end, Fenrir descended before one of the few Disciples that had tried to help his fellows escape. He had stayed behind to try and buy time as members of the younger generation tried to flee through a hidden passage. Fenrir eyed the girly-man for a brief moment, taking note that he was shaking slightly even though his expression was resolute. He was obviously very afraid but, even knowing death was the only outcome, the girly-man seemed determined to hold her off so that his companions could escape.
Fenrir squinted her eyes before saying, “I’m not here to kill everyone in the Blazing Sun Sect. This outcome was the result of the decisions made by your Elders. Now that they are dead, I have no reason to go around killing indiscriminately. Those I have slain are those with vicious hearts and bloody auras…” Though she didn’t know why, Fenrir felt like she had to explain herself since this particular girly-man didn’t seem like a bad person. He didn’t seem to truly believe her words but still brought his hands together in a show of respect as he said, “I will trust Senior’s words…”
Being called ‘Senior’ was very annoying but Fenrir knew it wasn’t meant to be an insult so she swallowed her frustration and said, “You should gather those you trust and see what you can recover from the Sect’s treasury before fleeing. I’m only the Guadian of the Heavenly Moon Sect so I won’t protect you if the enemies of the Blazing Sun Sect show up after I leave. Of those still alive, you have the highest Cultivation so it will fall on you to lead your fellow Disciples away to safety. When you escape, protect them and try to prevent anyone from harboring thoughts of vengeance. I will not spare anyone that antagonizes me since most of my actions are the result of how other people had behaved, not because I have a personal vendetta towards your ilk…”
With these words leaving her lips, Fenrir felt slightly annoyed so she took to the sky without looking back or waiting for a response. Her speed wasn’t something the girly-man could follow but he still looked towards the sky with a thoughtful expression on his face before turning to chase after those he had helped escape. They only had a short window to try and turn this tragedy into an opportunity so he wasn’t going to dally when it was very likely other Disciples had similar thoughts…
