Fenrir’s Journey: I Shall Devour The Heavens - Chapter 90
While the temperature throughout the entire city continued to drop, Fenrir was entirely unaffected due to the bluish-black aura around her body. Though the cold wouldn’t have affected her, even if she were to bathe in the most frigid water imaginable, a very different kind of chill had settled into her.
Sensing someone approach, Fenrir looked toward Wen Xiulan, finding the ethereal beauty nursing several burns and a vicious cut on her right arm. She could see a thin layer of Qi covering the area and, while it was extremely slow compared to the regeneration she was used to, Fenrir could tell that it wouldn’t take long before Wen Xiulan had healed completely.
Without beating around the bush, Fenrir asked in a tone that seemed to match the frozen wasteland around her, “Who…?”
Wen Xiulan couldn’t resist a shiver running through her body when she heard Fenrir’s tone but, with her position as Sect Leader in mind, she did her best to put on a brave front. She even managed an apologetic smile as she explained, “They claimed to belong to the Searing Sword Palace but I don’t believe that to be the case. The strongest among them wasn’t much stronger than me…this would not have been the case if the Searing Sword Palace was involved…”
As she had already learned about the Searing Sword Palace previously, Fenrir knew there was some truth behind Wen Xiulan’s words. However, as there had to be some kind of connection between the despicable people who had attacked the city and the infamous Sword Palace, it was the best place to look for answers.
Fenrir didn’t particularly care about anyone in the city but, as she had promised to protect the Sect, the primary military force backing the Heavenly Moon City, she felt as if the attack was directed at her. There was even a chance she was their goal as, based on how the girly-man had reacted, they had been waiting for her arrival.
After a long silence, Fenrir gazed up at the overcast sky above and muttered, “I hate this world…it is full of so much pain and sadness. There are so many evil people…I can’t stand it any longer…”
Wen Xiulan was slightly surprised when she heard Fenrir’s words as, while it wasn’t that uncommon for people to lament being born into this unforgiving world, the look in her eyes told a deeper truth. It was the gaze of someone who was reminiscent, intermixed with a profound and heartwrenching sense of loss.
While it was largely just a rumor, there had always been stories circulating about realms above and beyond the four continents. It was said that, by reaching the pinnacle of Cultivation, you could travel to one of these distant worlds, a place where even the grass could be considered an Immortal Herb.
It was impossible to be certain but, based on the peculiar aura surrounding Fenrir, Wen Xiulan was unable to shake the idea that the mysterious woman came from a higher realm. Her potential was so far beyond anything she had ever seen that it was almost impossible to consider her someone that had been born amongst the people of this world…
Breaking Wen Xiulan from her thoughts, Fenrir turned her attention back to the woman and stated in a plain tone that caused the surrounding temperature to drop exponentially, “I tried showing off my strength to keep people at bay but they still attacked innocent civilians just to draw me out…I’m not going to anchor myself here any longer. I will go and cripple all of the strongest Sects. I will not stop until they are all destroyed…”
(Fenrir’s Commentary: ‘I’m sorry Master…Fenrir can’t be a good girl this time…there is too much evil in this world…I must…kill them…all…’)
