Elder Mo stood forward, clasping his hands together before Huang Yu. Noticing the movement, Huang Yu nodded in approval before turning back to Zhang Xuan.

Mutters sounded across the room as people began to discuss the proceeding events.

Eyes sparkling with determination, Huang Yu performed a waist height bow towards Zhang Xuan, “Master Zhang, take me as your student!”

As the truth of what this talented genius had just said settled in, everyone went into uproar.

“She wants to take Zhang laoshi as her teacher? Doesn’t she already have a master teacher?”

“That’s not the main issue. Since she’s requesting for Zhang laoshi to take her in, does that mean that all the rumours about him were fake and he’s actually a genius?”

“Huang Yu! Why are you getting a step ahead of me? I came first!”

Everyone turned in shock towards the final speaker. Who else would have the audacity to speak such words to an assistant master teacher but Bai Xun. Striding up to Zhang Xuan, Bai Xun also performed a low bow before repeating what Huang Yu had said, “Master Zhang, take me as your student!”

Zhang Xuan scratched his head in shock, but mostly confusion. These two fellows had just appeared out of nowhere and he was currently dealing with something that could cost him his reputation. What the hell was he supposed to prioritise?

Elder Shang seethed with anger. Not only had he failed to convict Zhang Xuan of coercion of students, he had been humiliated all day by these guests that were here, not for him, but for that trash of a teacher. Unable to control himself, Elder Shang blurted out, “Zhang laoshi! Even if you have connections, that does not mean that you will be exempt today! Let’s not forget the matter of you scoring zero in the teacher’s evaluation! Even if you have the emperor backing you today, your results will still cause your license to be revoked!”

Gathering up his courage, Lu Fengyi burst out from behind all of the powerful figures by Zhang Xuan’s side, “You dare say our teacher is trash?”

Although Elder Shang was slightly shocked at the outburst, he quickly recovered before answering back with a dangerous tone, “Hmph! And who do you think you are?”

Even though he could not correlate this child with any powerful figures within the kingdom, Elder Shang chose to keep himself in check, just in case he had the backing of someone he could not offend.

“I am a student of Zhang laoshi. Other than that, I am a nobody,” Lu Fengyi replied casually.

Hearing that the student did not have any major background, Elder Shang creased his brows, “Then how dare you interfere with situations that do not concern you. Did your parents never teach you respect?”

Zhang Xuan reached out to pull Lu Fengyi back towards him, however as his hand was about to grab the boy’s robes, Lu Fengyi dodged out of the way before speaking, without even turning back, “Teacher, I cannot stand those who will sully your reputation. Please grant me permission to continue!”

Sighing to himself, Zhang Xuan felt a small pang within his heart. He had not given this student any significant advice or techniques that would help the boy cultivate and it wasn’t like he had spent many years with the boy, forming a strong bond. He had just met this student yesterday, and he was already willing to rival others for his reputation. Although he was unwilling to let the student do as he wished, Zhang Xuan felt within his mind, an instinct to trust Lu Fengyi.

Waving his approval to Lu Fengyi, Zhang Xuan stepped back into the group of people before staring intently at his student. Common sense would tell one to protect his brazen student, however his gut was telling him otherwise.

Although Lu Fengyi seemed to be calm and brazen on the outside, his heart was pounding faster than ever. Even as a child, he had never opposed his parents and would never talk back to his superiors, however his current experience felt like a rush. Of course, his mind was still not completely content with taking the initiative to insult others, however he was able to convince himself that it was for his own good.

“You said that Zhang laoshi has no capability to teacher students, however everyone of us six students of Zhang laoshi know perfectly well that there is no teacher within this academy that can teach better than Zhang laoshi!”

Hearing Lu Fengyi’s words, Elder Shang laughed before replying, “That’s because you have not encountered any of the other teachers yet. I’m sure you’re too young to be aware, however this trash of a teacher may be teaching you erroneous theories and you wouldn’t know.”

Elder Mo stroke his beard as he listened to Elder Shang’s interpretation, “Well said Elder Shang.”

The elders of the Wang clan sighed in appreciation as they heard the words, however grand elder Wang Li grinned broadly before calling over to Lu Fengyi, “Brother Lu, go ahead!”
