Fictional Transcension System - Chapter 28 Verdic
Seeing Lu Fengyi completely unfazed by the instantaneous victory, Elder Mo could only shake his head in nostalgia, ‘Wasn’t I like this child back then? No… I was able to stand up to many of the second years, however this Lu Fengyi simply exceeds the scopes of human cultivation, ascending to the ranks of geniuses. It wouldn’t be wrong to say he could best the third years.’
Finishing of his reminiscent thoughts, Elder Mo waved his hand before announcing his verdict, “Based on everything that I have seen today, I have come to a verdict. Elder Shang, due to your negligence as an elder and your actions of assisting the framing of a teacher, I will be reporting to the education department about your mistakes and applying for a light punishment. Cao Xiong laoshi and Shang Bin laoshi will be stripped of their teaching licence due to their intentional suppression and framing of a fellow teacher.”
Turning to Zhang Xuan, Elder Mo continued, “Zhang laoshi will be commended for his newly come to light achievements and will receive a reward which shall be determined at the department.”
Elder Mo paused for a moment before striding up to Lu Fengyi, “As for student Lu Fengyi, I believe it is within my authority to grant you the appropriate status you deserve.”
The others within the room looked confusedly at Elder Mo, ‘What appropriate status? Isn’t being a student of Hongtian Academy already quite grand? Unless… could it be?’
“Using my present authority, I grant you the status of an Elite Student. With the benefits that the status provides, I hope that your cultivation will proceed even smoother than it already has.”
Nodding his head, Elder Mo made his way towards the door before waving goodbye and exiting.
Once Elder Mo’s departing footsteps dissipated into silence, every single person within the room went in uproar.
“E-Elite Student?”
“How is this possible?”
“Even though Lu Fengyi is a once an a century genius, this is still surprising.”
Lu Fengyi coughed twice to interrupt the uproar before asking, “Pardon me for asking, but what exactly is an Elite Student?”
“You don’t know?” One of the elders from the Wang clan spoke out, “An Elite Student is a rank befitting of only the absolute geniuses of the academy. Although the rank itself may not sound grand, it is the fact that only one student in the entire history of the Hongtian academy has received this honour, and not only did the student graduate to become an excellent cultivator, he also became a three star master teacher.”
“That’s right! The fact that you were able to obtain the Elite Student status is an indication that not only does Elder Mo think highly of you, he believes in your ability to the point where he will gamble his own status of an elder to present you the best opportunity to grow. One must know that if you turned out to be unsuitable of the Elite Student rank, not only will Elder Mo be stripped of his elder position, he will also receive 50 god slaying blows.”
Shocked at Elder Mo’s confidence in him, Lu Fengyi set his jaw determinedly. If he did not work hard to fill the requirements of an Elite Student and ended up letting down Elder Mo, he would not even be human.
Imprinting the thought into his mind, Lu Fengyi continued, “So what benefits do Elite Students get?”
This time, grand elder Li answered, “Brother Lu, the status of an Elite Student grants you prestige similar my own. Not only will the academy recognise your abilities and invest all their resources into nurturing you, if the emperor of our country sees your potential, he may do the same as well. It’s not often that the academy gets an Elite Student and just one can mean a massive increase of status for the kingdom!”
Praising Lu Fengyi constantly, the elders waved as he left the room towards his room. Even though he had obtained this status, Lu Fengyi knew that it would mean nothing as of now. Gaining attention was alright, however the rewards were simply not useful. With the Cultivation Affinity he had obtained from the system, there was simple no need for such trivial qualities.
As he walked along the stone path back to the student dormitories, Lu Fengyi heard a set of steps approach him from behind. Turning his head back, Lu Fengyi saw Zhang Xuan ghosting quickly across the stone path towards him.
“Zhang laoshi.” Lu Fengyi clasped his hands, bowing respectfully towards Zhang Xuan who had stopped before him.
“Raise your head. Lu Fengyi, I wish to ask you, what is the fighting technique that you use?”
As Zhang Xuan watched Lu Fengyi’s fight with Zhao Yanfeng, a spark of memory from his librarian days flashed before him and he realised where he had seen the technique. It was in one of the martial arts clubs at the local school, the taekwondo one to be specific. Those familiar movements were simply to hard to mistake for another. As someone who would come in contact with students quite often, Zhang Xuan knew that taekwondo was an art of defence, hence explaining why Lu Fengyi did not attack first, despite having an overwhelming advantage.
Realising that Zhang Xuan most likely had his suspicions about his origins, Lu Fengyi replied in an unhurried tone, “Reporting to teacher! I learnt these techniques from my father, who although did not have an advanced cultivation, had learnt many martial arts and passed them on to me. My father called it taekwondo.”
Zhang Xuan’s eyes constricted as he recognised the name, “Could I also ask if your father is currently available?”
Lu Fengyi feigned a look of sadness, looking down towards the floor before muttering, “Both my parents died in a robbery last year. I’ve been living alone ever since.”
Although Zhang Xuan had no way of confirming whether what his student had said was true, he decided to play it safe, “I’m very sorry for your loss. I had no idea.”
Shaking his head, Lu Fengyi looked up once more before smiling brightly, “That’s why I was so eager to have you as my teacher, Zhang laoshi! Before my father died, he said that he once met a powerful teacher that would help me in the future. I seem to recall the teacher’s name was, uh, Lu? No Zhou? Anyways, when I first met teacher, I felt a strong vibe from you that no other teacher had. Hence I chose you.”
Although Zhang Xuan was still slightly suspicious, many of his doubts had already been clear. ‘It’s fine, this child should be legitimate. I’ll just meet any issues when I get to them.’
Waving goodbye to Zhang Xuan, Lu Fengyi bowed before returning to his quarters. What he needed right now was not prestige, not attention, but rather a strong cultivation.
‘It’s time to start!’ Lu Fengyi thought to himself, eyes gleaming with excitement.
