Fictional Transcension System - Chapter 30 Apothecary Examination
“That’s it from me for today. Go and cultivate according to what I’ve said and I hope you will be able to advance quickly.”
Zhang Xuan waved the excited students away from his classroom before sitting down upon a chair, ‘No problems with Lu Fengyi today. It didn’t seem like he was doing anything suspicious, however I still must keep my eye on him.’
Zhang Xuan sighed to himself before planning out his trip. Zhao Ya would require and Unravel Yin pill while Yuan Tao needed the blood of the Colossal Rhinoceros Blood. In addition he also required the Meridian Rejuvenation Pill and Body Nourishment Medicinal Solution in order to aid the other students. First he would have to visit the apothecary guild in order to obtain these items, and then he would most likely see if he could find out anything about Lu Fengyi’s background.
Although Lu Fengyi helped Zhang Xuan with the Frigid Mother Sun Grass, he knew that he could not continue helping him. After all, if he aided Zhang Xuan in obtaining the Unravel Yin Pill and the Colossal Rhinoceros Blood as well, there would be no reason for Yang shi to exist, possibly changing the future entirely.
Even though Lu Fengyi had no plans of further aiding Zhang Xuan, he still needed to begin working on his occupational classes in order to gain experience for the future. Not only would it be useful for the world he was in currently, it would also be beneficial to experience each occupation first hand so that he would understand more clearly how it actually was.
Stepping into the apothecary guild, Lu Fengyi looked around before approaching the receptionist, “Hello, may I know if there is an apothecary examination beginning soon?”
Noticing the child in front of her, the receptionist listened to what Lu Fengyi had to say before chuckling, “Haha, little child, indeed there is. However children like you do not have the knowledge to pass the examination. Wait till you’ve properly prepared before you do the examination okay?”
Ignoring the caressing tone that the receptionist had used, Lu Fengyi continued, “With all due respects, senior, I am perfectly capable to completing the examination. In any case, it’s my loss even if I fail.”
Slightly shocked at how persistent the boy was, the receptionist was about to continue persuading the boy when suddenly, she noticed his gaze. Deep, mature, serious, there were plenty of words that would describe him perfectly, however childish or ignorant would definitely not be one. For reasons known, even to her, the receptionist felt an instinctive trust towards the boy, “What’s your name?”
“My name is Lu Fengyi.”
The receptionist felt that the name was quite familiar. Soon realising where she had heard the name before, she pointed at Lu Fengyi with a trembling finger, “You’re that Lu Fengyi? The Elite Student from the Hongtian academy?”
“That would be me.”
Almost fainting from shock, the receptionist hurriedly changed her attitude, “Young master Lu, you mustn’t mind my casual comments just then. I did not know that it was Young master Lu in front of this humble one.”
Surprised by the change of attitude, Lu Fengyi waved away her apology.
“I’ve heard many things about you. Besting an elder in knowledge, defeating second year students, even obtaining the favour of an elder. My younger brother goes to the school, wait I haven’t even introduced myself. My name is Wen Xue and it is an honour to meet you!”
Staring oddly at Wen Xue, Lu Fengyi nodded before asking, “So can I participate in the examination?”
Realising that she had been rude and had spoken rapidly out of excitement, Wen Xue quickly composed herself before answering, “Of course you can! If you cannot do it, who else would be able to?”
Leading the Elite Student into the examination room, Wen Xue quickly arranged for Lu Fengyi to meet up with one of the examiners. Not long later, a tall man in a formal suit and silky pants strode over towards the duo, “Are you the one who called me?”
“Yes elder. I have here the Elite Student of Hongtian academy with me. He wishes to take the apothecary test…” Wen Xue began to explain, however before she could finish, she was slapped over the head.
“How many times have I told you? Don’t call me elder! I’m not that old!” The elder retracted his hand.
“Yes elder, I mean, senior Bai.”
Ignoring Wen Xue’s repeated mistake, Elder Bai turned to Lu Fengyi, “So you are the newly appointed Elite Student, Lu Fengyi. I have heard much about you.”
“You flatter me, senior Bai.” Lu Fengyi bowed lightly.
Elder Bai put up his hands in mock horror, “Oh no, I can’t have you calling me senior. That would be completely in appropriate.”
Lu Fengyi thought for a moment before realising that it was true, after all, it was his first time meeting this Elder Bai and they had no relationship whatsoever. Before Lu Fengyi could voice his apologies, he was abruptly interrupted.
“Indeed, senior will not do. How about you just call me Brother Bai?”
Both, Wen Xue and Lu Fengyi stumbled in shock. They had both thought that Elder Bai would ask for Lu Fengyi to call him Elder instead of senior, yet in a single sentence, Lu Fengyi went from being a junior with a high status title to the brother of an official apothecary. Wasn’t this too exaggerated?
Knowing the etiquette of the world, Lu Fengyi gave in, “Then I’ll be inconveniencing Brother Bai. I wish to take the examination, so is there any way I can apply for it?”
“Of course! I’ll arrange for a private examination right now. Usually it costs tens of thousands to arrange one, however I’ll be your examiner so that there will be no charge for Brother Lu!” Elder Bai responded eagerly.
Knowing that Elder Bai’s offer would be much more efficient and would also completely rid the chance of Zhang Xuan meeting him at the examination, Lu Fengyi accepted proposal before waving goodbye to Wen Xue and following Elder Bai into a separate room.
“Since I’m authorising your test, I’ll make it quick as I have no doubts that the Elite Student of the Hongtian academy would have any problems with the questions.”
As Elder Bai had promised, within five minutes time, Lu Fengyi had already finished the exam, leaving Elder Bai in shock. Even though Elder Bai knew that Lu Fengyi was a knowledge powerhouse, the fact that he could answer every single question flawlessly without even writing down the question or thinking demonstrated his knowledge prowess.
Although Lu Fengyi could attribute a certain amount of the credit to his own study back when he was an author, he had to give majority of the credit to the Cultivation Knowledge Pack ( Section 1 ). Without the completely accurate answers that the knowledge pack provided, Lu Fengyi would have gotten over half the questions partially wrong.
