Fictional Transcension System - Chapter 39 Another
“I would like to order, hmm…”
Lu Fengyi turned towards Wang Ying, “What do you want to eat?”
Wang Ying waved her hands in embarrassment before giving in to Lu Fengyi’s unrelenting stare, “Fried pancakes.”
Surprised at the girl’s choice, Lu Fengyi quickly called for the young boy who was taking their orders to note down two sets of fried pancakes. Since Wang Ying was born in a prestigious family, Lu Fengyi expected her to have a more refined taste. It seemed that even the rich children of families would still enjoy the heaven defying street food.
Feeling a little cheeky, Lu Fengyi reached out and took Wang Ying’s hands within his staring deeply into her eyes. By now, Wang Ying had already gotten a little more used to Lu Fengyi’s advances, only blushing as she directed her gaze towards something of pure interest on the floor.
Seeing that Wang Ying was avoiding his gaze, Lu Fengyi chuckled to himself.
His dad had always told him before he died, ‘experience is important, however your instincts are even more so’. Although Lu Fengyi had heard this quote everyday, he hadn’t payed any particular attention to the meaning behind it. It was not until his university graduation, did those words come back to him.
During his bleary highschool days, every person around would either be the social, party type, the gaming type or the study type. However, Lu Fengyi was different, not choosing any of the prominent archetypes, Lu Fengyi had decided to become an author, writing on many different platforms till kill his time.
In the beginning, he had felt it to be a casual kind of job, however, as his novel grew larger, slowly attracting the attention of readers all over the world, the demand of time and effort become even more evident. Of course, he had not neglected his study, successfully graduated from highschool and receiving multiple entrance choices into some of the more popular courses.
He knew what his father would say. ‘Become a computer engineer. That’s the only future for our technological world…’
Lu Fengyi knew his father was right, however by the time he had to finalise his course for the next few years, he had tens of thousands of readers, each supporting him each day, making those hilarious comments.
“Thx, more chaps pls”
“Wtf, why’d you kill off Li Bing. He was a good side character!”
“Exp”
It wasn’t as if it was a hard choice from the beginning. It was obvious which path would lead him to a successful future, however something within him urged him on, pushing him into the world of professional authors.
The day before the selection for his course was due, had received an email. It wasn’t from any minor company, nor was it from a scammer. The title had large mistakable words.
Redian International
The biggest Chinese novel contractors had contacted him with the intention of giving him an immeasurable amount of exposure in return for royalties. Of course, being the blooming author he was, Lu Fengyi graciously accepted the offer, instantly receiving exposure beyond his imagination. In an instant, he had transformed from a simple web novel writer to an official author.
While Lu Fengyi had become an author, he decided to continue taking the Computer Engineering course, still graduating from university eventually with qualifications to enter into workplace.
What had made him choose the author life over working in a technology industry as a living? It wasn’t experience, but his instinct.
Wang Ying took the opportunity to stare at the reminiscent face of Lu Fengyi, who was still lost in thoughts, staring mindlessly out of the window. While Lu Fengyi still had a youthful look, there was a certain maturity within him, radiating unintentionally. The almost ten year gap in age was too large to not notice, especially since she was still a child. It was as if Lu Fengyi had the mind of an experienced expert, placed into the body of a child.
Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, Wang Ying muttered softly, “How could that be. If that was the case, wouldn’t this world have been a lie and people can just switch bodies when they want?”
“What’s that?”
Although Lu Fengyi was still deep in thought, that did not mean that he was oblivious everything in his surroundings. While Dantian realm pinnacle cultivators had advanced hearing abilities, the change was quite minor and wouldn’t be able to hear much more than normal people, however Lu Fengyi was currently a Zhizhun realm pinnacle expert. That meant that not only was his hearing much better than before, all his senses were sharper and more powerful. Even if Wang Ying muttered so softly that even she could not hear herself, Lu Fengyi would still be able to.
“N-nothing.”
Lu Fengyi was about to tease Wang Ying a little more before he was interrupted by the young boy coming back once more, a plate of fried pancakes in each hand.
“Here you go big brother, big sister. You can enjoy them with sauces or as they are, super delicious either way!”
Lu Fengyi disengaged from holding Wang Ying’s hand, patting the boy lightly on the head, “You did well.”
The boy beamed with happiness, however a rough voice sounded from beyond the counter, “Jun’er! I told you to be more polite to our guests.”
A tall and almost bear like figure turned the corner, before gesturing to the child to walk over, “Listen up, when you talk to the guests, you have to use terms like Sir and Miss. Otherwise you couldn’t be fit to be a waiter. I’ve told you before, those from my hometown had restaurants many times larger than ours, however they servers still had to treat every customer with utmost respect.”
After giving the child a light lecture, the man strode over towards the almost mutual couple, standing before them, “Sorry for the kid’s behaviour. He’s all I can hire these days, it’s almost terrible how little talented people there are in this world.”
“It’s fine, he didn’t do too bad of a job.” Lu Fengyi waved away the apology.
“Agreed. Still, it’s just too much of a difference compared to where I came from. I used to visit a chef named Gordon Ramsay all the time. His dishes were superb and the customer service was on par!”
Although Lu Fengyi felt inwardly shocked, he kept his composure, “So that’s why you’ve decided to become a chef?”
“Indeed! You understand me too well. I love the art of cooking and I decided to pursue the art until my technique is refined. Although I seem to be a local resident, I’m actually a nomad. In the past year or so, I’ve moved homes, hmm… possibly eight times already, so don’t be surprised if I leave here someday.”
The man’s final sentence only confirmed Lu Fengyi’s suspicions further.
“Store owner, could I say a word?”
Confused at Lu Fengyi’s question, the man gestured for him to go ahead.
Lu Fengyi took a deep breath before staring ominously into the other man’s eyes.
“LoHP.”
