Fictional Transcension System - Chapter 75 Special Class
The surrounding blackness warped and twisted before blurry out, slowly being replaced by the vivid colours of a lively city. Every player in an MMORPG would be spawned into a capital, or some place close in order to introduce them to the game. Although Conviction was a virtual reality game, it was still an MMORPG in essence.
As everything finally cleared and the entire world loaded, Lu Fengyi suddenly felt himself gain weight and land firmly upon the floor. Lifting his hands and staring down, Lu Fengyi gaped in awe, ‘So this is a virtual reality game. The Oculus Rift could not even provide a fraction of this magnificence. It’s almost as if I have an entirely new body!’
Just as Lu Fengyi was about to take his first step, the familiar voice of the system rang in his head.
[ The game should be giving you your handicap now. Just accept and follow the given instructions so you don’t cause any trouble ]
Lu Fengyi nodded before willing the notifications open as he felt a subtle tremor from his senses.
{ Thank you, Mystical Dawn, for participating in the release of Conviction. Due to external circumstances and your class choice of Shadow Priest, you have been given the choice to select a further subclass, making you one of the fifteen only people to receive this opportunity. Your choices range from the following; Dark Knight, Shadow Assassin and Darken Magician }
Glancing curiously at the mentioned classes, Lu Fengyi frowned in confusion, ‘System, what do the classes do?’
[ Can’t you tell from the name? Eh, I can’t be bothered to explain, so go ask the game system… ]
Sighing at his apathetic system, Lu Fengyi typed a reply to the sender of the notification.
{ What do the classes do? Can you give a brief explanation? }
Almost instantly, a reply came through and his notifications buzzed.
{ Of course! Before you hear the explanations, please be aware that for the sake of balancing, these classes do not have any stat based advantages over the other classes and will generally be able to have fair fights with those of the same skill level, but different classes. The Dark Knight is a variation of your general warrior/tank class and has special skills that are of a Shadow Priest. Although you won’t have the same sustain as the original warriors and you won’t be able to cast the most powerful skills of a Shadow Priest, you will have a solid mix of the two classes. }
{ The second is the Shadow Assassin. As you can probably tell from the name, this type of assassin is based even more around stealth and surprise attacks than the Tempest Thief, however in return, it has pitiful health and limited types of attacks that allow a prolonged battle. Within your arsenal would also be several Shadow Priest curses that will allow you to weaken your enemies before you strike, decimating even tanks if you play smart enough. }
{ The final option is the Darken Magician. This class is a unique blend of magic and dark crafts, manipulating the AoE nature of many Mage skills to cast AoE curses upon the enemies. While you won’t deal much damage, you will be amazing at weakening enemies and making them vulnerable to your allies, both to players and natural enemies. }
{ As a heads up, there is no obligation for you to change classes and you can remain a Shadow Priest if you wish. Kind Regards, the Conviction Support Team. }
Lu Fengyi read through all the contents of the message carefully before considering his choices. If he had specialised in one of the play-styles, he would not hesitate to pick it, however since he was known as the best all rounder amongst the casual players, that meant that he did not excel at any class, however he performed close to exceptional for anything he played, a true mid-ground, indecisive player.
Still finding himself unable to decide upon one of the classes, Lu Fengyi quickly typed a message.
{ When do I have to make this decision? }
Once again, a message arrived seconds after his own.
{ You do not have to make a decision right now. Until you are past level 3, you’re allowed to switch to any one of these classes. Once you chose one though, you will not be able to change your class unless you delete your account, so make sure you decide carefully. }
‘What the hell are this guy’s fingers? It only took him seconds to type fifty odd words…’ Lu Fengyi felt speechless at the evidently godly typing speed.
Shaking his head, Lu Fengyi decided to first test out his compatibility with moving in the virtual world and also testing his magic casting sensitivity. Even though the game was made so that all players would be able to adapt, the degree to which one was able to manipulate their class had a great deal to to with how well they were able to adapt to the play-style, especially in virtual reality. If one chose to play an assassin, however they were not very nimble and didn’t think quick, there would not be as good results as another, more suitable player. Since he had till he was level three, there would be plenty of room for him to test himself.
‘I guess I should head out into the fields to grind a bit first.’ Lu Fengyi followed his intent, racing off towards the teleportation points outside the capital, picking up some of the more basic quests on the way. Although the main character of the novel had not done that, but instead gone to search for treasure using his advantage of knowledge from a previous life first, Lu Fengyi only had a vague idea of where it would be, but not only that, he didn’t want to interfere with the world too much until he could truly rise to power.
Travelling by the transportation system, Lu Fengyi arrived at one of the beginner villages before picking up a cheap dagger and heading out towards the mob spawn areas. Although Conviction was a popular game from the release, it seemed that he was one of the earliest people to start the game as he could only see several other players fighting mobs.
Walking up to the nearest mob, Lu Fengyi faced up against an oversized lizard, screaming it’s insults towards him. Deciding to test his physical confrontation skills first, Lu Fengyi swung his dagger in the direction of the lizard, damaging the beast before backing away quickly. While the game did not convert his powerful legs into the statistics of his game character, that did not mean that he was unable to make use of his skill in taekwondo to manoeuvre back in the most efficient and safe manner possible.
While he was quick on his feet, his attacks with the dagger were quite sloppy and did not have much rhythm and seemed to be quite stiff compared to the assassins he had seen in dramas and other TV shows.
‘Sigh, looks like this one needs more practise…’
