Fictional Transcension System - Chapter 80 Tank Acquired
“HOLY SHIT!”
“We actually killed the boss!”
“Sample Jam! You’re the tank god!”
The surviving players cheered as they watched their experience bars rise, breaking through an entire level at once and sending them all the way to level 4 in an instant. While games would generally make mobs share the experience among the players, since this was a leader class boss, everyone got the full experience based on how much they contributed to the fight, those who died only receiving a 20% reduction in experience.
Within seconds, twenty players zoomed into the highest level in the game at the moment, snatching all the positions on the leaderboards and securing safely their position as a known expert for at least the next few days.
Lu Fengyi frowned in disappointment as he watched his experience bar rise 3%. While it was true that it was only because of his Sleeping Shadow skill that the ogre had been slain, his true contribution in terms of damage and supporting was near zero, causing the amount of experience he gained to be quite saddening.
Not that it mattered of course. Having participated in at least damaging the boss and debuffing it, Lu Fengyi, alongside the other players, had received a first boss kill title in their name, something that could never be earned by any other player again. Experience? That could be made up for, however the title most definitely could not!
Walking over to celebrate with the others, Lu Fengyi glanced at the floor where the ogre had died, however as he had expected, all the loot had already been taken. As expected of MMORPG players.
“That was a good skill you had there!”
A large hand landed upon Lu Fengyi’s shoulder and a quiet, yet courageous voice sounded out. Glancing behind him, Lu Fengyi recognised the person to be one of the remaining tanks when he had engaged, Sample Jam, as the others had called him. Not forgetting his manners in the least, Lu Fengyi reached out his hand for a shake, “Good tanking yourself. You were critical in the victory of this battle.”
Sample Jam grinned at the praise, however he knew that if this player before him had not cast that last minute debuff, even if he were to go up against the ogre with full health, there was no way that he would have survived even a single hit. Of course, he did not disregard the player’s words either. It was evident that he did not want much attention attracted to himself, hence pushing the glory onto his name.
‘This man’s quite the interesting one…’ Sample Jam thought to himself before sending a private message over to the player. Generally, if one did not have another added as their friend, it was near impossible to send private messages, however since they were face to face, the game allowed them to do so.
“Hey. Thank you for what you did just then. If you hadn’t acted, we would’ve been wiped!”
Of course, Lu Fengyi received the message. Quite reading through, Lu Fengyi replied in a casual manner, “It’s fine. I was only doing it for the best interests of everyone.”
Sample Jam smiled inwardly, ‘This guy is truly quite interesting.’
“You seem really skilled. Do you want to add me as a friend. I would love to bring you on a dungeon run when we’re high enough level.” Sample Jam sent another private message over.
‘Eh? Friend?’ Lu Fengyi hesitated for a moment. If he were to accept the proposal, that would mean that it wouldn’t be long before the other party knew about his unconventional class. While it wouldn’t necessarily bring him enemies for the short term, it was most definite that there would be an endless number of guilds that would attempt to recruit him due to his unique class, possibly becoming a pain in the ass. If he could avoid it, he would, however if he was able to convince Sample Jam to keep his secret, it wouldn’t be too bad to get a skilled tank either.
Deciding that it wouldn’t be too much of a burden, Lu Fengyi replied, “I don’t mind. I’ll send you one now.”
Pressing upon Sample Jam’s name and sending a friend request, Lu Fengyi waited for a moment before the accept notification was sent back. Just like Nie Yan, Lu Fengyi knew that eventually he would need a solid tank to become his vanguard, and while it seemed that Sample Jam already had plentiful experience with his class, even if that wasn’t so, Lu Fengyi could make use of his own knowledge in playing tanks to help the man out.
“Thanks, I’ll look forward to working with you in the future.” Sample Jam sent a final message before turning his attention back to the rest of the players. Since he had been the closest when the boss had died, all the loot that had dropped from the boss was also naturally within his hands. While most of the equipment was still the colourless type, there were two pieces of equipment that were of the bronze grade. At this point in the game, getting even a single bronze grade equipment would set you up to become much more powerful than the rest of the players.
‘Everyone! I will now begin to distribute the loot!” Sample Jam shouted before laying every single piece of equipment that had dropped. Of course, being the honest man he was, Sample Jam did not keep the bronze equipment either, placing them down besides the rest of the equipment. While it was true that he played a huge role in defeating the ogre, it went without saying that he could not do it alone. It was only right to give the equipment to those who benefited most from it.
The onlooking players watched in awe as the saw almost ten pieces of colourless equipment appear on the floor, however their eyes widened further as the two bronze pieces were put down. Not to mention own, most of the players had not even seen a bronze equip before. While it was true that the game had only started for a single day, however none of the players present had ever owned a bronze equipment, making the items before them even more enticing.
As Sample Jam placed down the final piece, the tens of mages sighed in disappointment. The two bronze equips were respectively a shied for a tanky knight and the sword of a paladin. Even if they were to acquire the equipment, the only use it would be was to sell. If that was the case, it was better if it just went to someone more suitable.
Reading out the results of the battle, Sample Jam distributed the equipment fairly amongst the top ranking damage dealers before moving onto the bronze equipment. After giving the sword to one of the more skilled paladins, Sample Jam could only sigh in sadness. While he was an excellent player and worked hard at the end to tank the boss, his contributions fell just short of another tank, Steel Stones. Calling out for the player, Sample Jam was about to give the shield to him, however Steel Stone surprisingly declined, indicating for Sample Jam to take the shield. After a round of discussion, he could only relent and accept the shield.
