Fictional Transcension System - Chapter 84 First Place
“Mad Snail, you are truly a madman!”
Lu Fengyi cursed under his breath. It wasn’t that he had never learnt Chinese, however upon his screen, was not the conventional Chinese characters, but a jumble of who knew what the hell it was talking about. While every few words, he could decipher one or two, the rest were just pure confusion. As expected of one that originated from a literature rich background.
Within the test, most of the questions asked for a reading through of a passage before answering several questions, while others would be to write a lengthy response about a provided issue. It would have been easy if Lu Fengyi had studied Chinese in university, however since he had only completely what was necessary for daily life, there was no way that he could even read half of the examination. Of course, it wasn’t that Mad Snail, the author of rebirth, had intentionally written the test within his novel to be hard, however since it was a pre-graduate test in China, there was no question that these difficult words would be thrown out without restraint.
Cursing himself for his lack of knowledge, Lu Fengyi could only stumble his way through the questions, trying his absolute best to answer them in ways that would hopefully scam a few marks for him. Surprisingly, the hardest section of the test was none of the content based tests, but the language that he and his parents spoke on a daily basis.
Since he had finished the earlier seven sections at such a rapid pace, Lu Fengyi could only stare pointlessly at the confusing words before him, watching in depression as the time began to run dry. If he were to rate his own answers in the Chinese section, he would definitely fail himself without even seeing the result.
Slowly, the students beside him began to finish up and before long, the time for the test had been used up. Automatically, the examinations upon the screens rolled themselves away and the classroom was suddenly filled with heated discussions and painful cries of depressed students. Sighing to himself, Lu Fengyi left for the bathroom. While school was definitely less stressful than being an adult, the simple thought of completing tests and studying once more was not the most pleasant one.
Turning on the tap and washing his face, Lu Fengyi inspected himself in the mirror out of habit. Now that he thought about it, he hadn’t gotten a proper look at himself since he had arrived in the world, as there was no good opportunity to.
Unlike his previous features, his current face was much more youthful and displayed the feeling of a decently handsome, generic Chinese student. His hair was trimmed short on the sides and the rest lay naturally from the right of his head to the left, hiding away his fringe. If he were to describe himself, it would be borderline edgy. His nose was prominent and his eyes gave off the intellectual kind of feel. If anything, he looked much better in his current form than when he was an author.
While Lu Fengyi had not formally tested out his body yet, it seemed that he wasn’t too weak. If he were to estimate based on what he had seen so far, his punch strength would be around 100kg. Add on a bit of training everyday for the next year, and he would become much stronger than the average person. After all, not everyone had the commitment to become a fighter like Nie Yan had.
Returning to the classroom, Lu Fengyi sat back in his seat when Yang Boyi walked in and displayed the results up on the projector.
“Uh, so we’ll just run through the results. The average was 240 points in this class, a 30 point increase since the last time we did the test. That means that most of you have passed the exam and I hope we’ll continue to work hard and do well in the true examination next year.”
Yang Boyi changed the screen to the scores, in order from lowest to highest.
“After collecting the results, we have four students who failed the exam. If you are one of them, please see me after class and we’ll discuss your results. Otherwise, congratulations. Now, for the honour positions, we have three students who were able to score above 500 this time, each representing hours of study and diligence that all of you can learn from.”
Gesturing to Liu Rui first, Yang Boyi made a silent applause.
“First, we have Liu Rui, as usual, with an outstanding score of 502!”
Liu Rui stood up before patting his chest with a face full of pride, “Heh, it wasn’t much.”
“Second, we have another regular, Xie Yao, with an exceptional score of 591!”
Xie Yao displayed a happy expression before burrowing herself back into her marked paper, looking through the mistakes that she had made.
“Finally, we have Lu Fengyi, the new transfer student, with the highest score of… WHAT?”
Hearing the usually calm and composed Yang Boyi cry out in surprise, and in such an exaggerated manner as well, the students looked at Lu Fengyi with curious eyes.
“This…this can’t be right! How is this possible?” Yang Boyi’s eyes constricted in confusion and disbelief.
Unable to hold back their curiosity, the class began calling out to Yang Boyi.
“Teacher! What’s wrong?”
“What’s his mark? Could it be above Xie Yao’s mark?”
“That shouldn’t be. Xie Yao has been first place for years. It’s not easy to surpass her score.”
Also confused at the commotion that his teacher was making, Lu Fengyi stood up from his seat before walking up to Yang Boyi, “Sir, is there something wrong?”
Yang Boyi turned his eyes towards Lu Fengyi, however this time, they were completely different from before. It was as if he were looking at an unfathomable being, a monster, in literal terms. With a shaky voice, full of excitement, Yang Boyi continued, “Ahem. And the final student, Lu Fengyi, has obtained a mark of 914, the highest ever mark achieved by a person of his age!”
“WHAT?”
The class erupted into cries as they too, stared at Lu Fengyi with eyes of disbelief. It was one thing to score above 500 points, however closing in upon 1000 points was not easy. One had to know that even the best of the best students that completed the examination the following year, would only receive around 1040 points, however they had an entire year to make up for that difference. Lu Fengyi, at the same age as them, had achieved something that was only 100 or so points off the top mark in the state. If he wasn’t a monster, then what the hell was he?
