Forbidden Zone of the Human Race - Chapter 484: The Orphanage Director
After checking out his body, Xiang Ning stood up and continued slowly exploring his new senses. His stomach started growling, but he ignored it for the moment. “Strength measurement,” he uttered and a single pillar appeared in the chamber. He used his entire force and punched the pillar.
A number appeared on the pillar, and it exceeded his expectations. Back when he had advanced into tier six, nine-star, he somehow had a feeling that his body was already at its peak. It was the limit of a human. If it weren’t for the system, he might have taken at least five years to have a chance to advance into tier seven.
It was a door that held back many people, but once they broke through the bottleneck, their entire body underwent a metamorphosis and was no longer human. Their strength, speed, and even durability would be drastically improved as they broke through their limitations. Now, he finally understood what it meant.
Some scientists theorized that it was an evolution of the human genome itself. During the Great Disaster, humans had found out that they could cultivate and become martial artists or spiritual cultivators due to a change in their genes, much like how beasts became larger, faster, and more ferocious.
But the beasts proliferated at least ten times faster than humans. Some of them increased their strength to tier seven and above by breaking through themselves, while other beasts sired so many offspring that their evolution was sped up. Humanity could only slowly grow stronger through the accumulation of knowledge and generations of experimentation.
That was the reason humanity had only gained a solid foothold after more than a hundred years of bloodshed and death. Three hundred years later, they had finally managed to start reclaiming some of their territory.
Xiang Ning’s current punching strength was twenty tons. According to what he knew, an average tier seven martial artist would have a punching strength of around thirteen to fourteen tons. A very strong martial artist might be able to exert fifteen tons instead. Looking at the numbers, he chuckled and admired his strength.
Next, he tested his speed. He ran a kilometer in less than ten seconds. He found out that his speed was a hundred and seven meters per second, far higher than a regular tier seven martial artist, as they could only cover roughly ninety meters per second. And that was his speed before he used his martial techniques.
He was satisfied with his values. The training had been successful! His next test was to use both his martial techniques and Shadowmist Ghost Step.
Strength: 69,301 kg
Speed: 167 meters per second
Looking at the data, Xiang Ning was ecstatic! His current performance was easily as much as a regular mid-stage tier seven!
The AI was also impressed by his performance. “Calculating data. Analyzing. Analysis complete. Your training difficulty will be adjusted. Please train harder.”
Xiang Ning heard that his training would become harder and gave him the international sign. He chuckled as he thought to himself. How much harder could it be? Twenty Qiuros? He wasn’t afraid; there was no way the AI could make it harder by increasing the number of Qiuros.
But the next day, Xiang Ning saw that he had to face fifty Qiuros. He blurted out a string of expletives as he saw how crazy the AI was. Did it want him to die?! How can he face off against fifty Qiuros at the same time?!
But the AI had calculated everything perfectly. It had completely analyzed Xiang Ning’s potential and strength to maximize the value of the training.
After defeating all fifty Qiuros, Xiang Ning passed out and fell asleep. When he woke up the next day, he saw a hundred Qiuros. Xiang Ning swore that he would destroy this place after he escaped.
After the previous battle, when there were only two Qiuros left alive, he had finally grasped the changes in his body and was able to utilize his strength to the highest level. None of his movements were wasted and he could dispatch his enemies with the fastest method. He had used brute strength to kill the first forty-eight Qiuros and wasted a lot of energy. Somehow, he felt grateful to the AI.
……
Time passed again and it was now almost a year since Xiang Ning had entered the ruins. By now, everyone had already been informed of his circumstances. In the first six months, no one had reliable information. It was just last week when his official death report was broadcasted.
In the report, thirty other martial artists were listed alongside Xiang Ning. All of them had entered the ruins.
In Marsh City, Xiang Xiaoyu, Fang Rou, Wu Rui, Li Zimo, Liu Ruoxue, Lu Shiyu, and Wang Zhe all visited the orphanage in their spare time. Everyone had changed a lot in a year, and today the children were happily calling their names.
Some of the children remained in the orphanage, while others were new faces. Some were missing, too, as they had been adopted. Many changes had happened in the past year.
“Sister Xiaoyu, is brother Xiang Ning not coming this time?” one of the children who had hugged Xiang Ning’s leg the previous year asked.
Xiang Xiaoyu patted the child’s head. “My brother is busy, so he can’t come yet.”
“But you said he’d come this time.”
“Xin, Xiang Ning is very busy. Let’s be more patient.” One of the teachers came around and smiled at Xiang Xiaoyu.
After they had lunch, all of them ensured that the children had gone for their afternoon nap before they went into the director’s office. The director was now older and his white hair had become paler. He was now ninety years old, but he still loved to play with the children.
“Haha, come, sit, sit. You’ve all grown so much that we no longer have any chairs that suit you. Come, take this stool for now.” The director was walking with a cane as his warm smile greeted them.
“What’s wrong? Has Xiang Ning not returned yet? Sigh, it can’t be helped then. Come, help yourself to some candy.”
“Grandpa… this time, we came here to tell you something.” Looking at the old director, nobody wanted to break the news, but Xiang Xiaoyu stood up in the end.
The director turned around as if he did not hear her. He took the candy and placed it on the table, then took another candy from his pocket, unwrapped it, and gingerly placed it in his mouth as his hand trembled. He smiled. “Sure. Please tell me what it is.”
