Forest Survival: From Logging to Login - Chapter 38
As soon as he had released the words, the chatroom resumed its lively atmosphere.
“Boss, I want it!”
“This treasure must be stored away. I have to worship the boss every day in front of tiger meat!”
“I’ll buy some for my collection!”
“I want to worship the boss at all times!”
“This is the role model for us men. Where did all the people who mocked the boss just now go? The real bosses are all low-key!”
As the discussions went on, the items on Ed’s shelves were quickly snatched up.
His wave of newfound popularity had brought some benefits for him, namely that he had also managed to receive a special item.
It was also something that Ed needed at the moment. All that he had given up for it during the transaction was a piece of tiger skin.
“Not bad.”
Ed held a forging blueprint that emitted a faint glow in his hand.
[ Silver-quality Barrier Forging Blueprint: A solid shield for all survivors, increasing protection! ]
This was something that was very important right now.
Safety issues had always been commonplace here. Up until now, many survivors have left the world as victims of wild beast attacks.
There were currently only a few simple barriers around Ed. If he were to encounter some powerful wild beasts here, these defences would be no different from decorations.
The arrival of this forging blueprint, however, would completely change the situation. His defenses would soon increase exponentially.
By then, these individual beasts would no longer pose a threat to Ed.
Midnight.
Ed procured the clay that he had obtained from the lake today from his storage space, placing them all on the ground piled up into a small hill.
At this moment, the convenience of the omnipotent hammer was on full display. Ed was able to directly transform it into a mould for making bricks.
Then, coupled with the multipurpose furnace, Ed barely needed to expend any effort at all. He only had to wait quietly until it was time to obtain the bricks.
However, the waiting time would be long. He would have to oversee one process after another to make a single batch of bricks.
Estimating based on the current pace, he guessed that he would only be able to gather all the bricks he needed to build the wooden house in a few days.
However, he couldn’t complain. This speed was already incredibly fast. If he had to use manual labor to obtain the bricks, it would have taken a few months at the very least.
Anyway, Ed already had a plan to use the time as he waited. He intended to use this newly acquired barrier blueprint to upgrade his defenses.
Ed was exhausted as he mulled it over. He climbed into his bed and quickly fell asleep.
Night turned into day, and the sun eventually rose.
Ed stretched as he sat up from the bed
His mental state was steadily improving. Last night was the most steady sleep he had ever gotten.
The first thing he did when he woke up was to drink a glass of cold water.
He still held great importance as to the matter of his physical health.
The body was of the utmost importance.. He had to take good care of it, and could not afford to be careless.
Following this, he began today’s inspection.
He checked for any problems with the crops he had planted, as he watered them. Apple trees, corn fields, and peach trees. The crops were all growing normally, without any accidents.
“Check in.”
Ed made a hatchet as he said to the system.
[ Ding! Check in successful. ]
[ Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining: future fragment x1]
Hmm?
What was that? A future fragment?
Today’s sign in reward had yielded something that Ed had never even heard of. Conveniently, he had a system to introduce it to him.
As he procured the item from his storage space, the future fragment’s description appeared in his mind.
[ Future Fragment: May or may not be of help or influence to the host’s future path. ]
He had never heard of anything like this before.
Before he could react, the white fragment in his hand immediately turned into a ray of light before striking in between Ed’s eyebrows. Then, it disappeared.
Ed’s eyes became blurry as he felt that his vision was turning dreamy.
After a while, he finally stabilized.
His vision returned, and the dizziness from before slowly dissipated.
As he opened his eyes, Ed saw the endless forest. Even so, he was strangely sure that this was not the same world that he had been in earlier.
Plop.
A drop of water landed on Ed’s hand.
He looked up to see thick and heavy dark clouds beginning to gather.
In an instant, the entire sky had become dark and gloomy, giving a strong oppressive feel.
Huff!
Powerful gusts of strong wind blew, threatening to rip off Ed’s hair and clothes.
Finally, as the dark clouds in the sky seemed to reach a breaking point, it began to rain cats and dogs.
The rain covered the entire land.
However, the rainstorm only lasted for a few seconds before stopping as abruptly as it had appeared.
Ed found it all a little strange. Why had it come and gone so soon?
He still couldn’t fathom what the future fragment actually did. It had seemed to be of little use.
The strong winds also gradually stopped. Waves of white fog soon began to spread out with the wind.
The white gas passed through a towering tree. In its wake, it left a layer of condensed frost on the surface of the trunk.
As his attention caught on to it and saw this, Ed was given a big fright.
Just as he was about to make a sound, his vision became distorted again.
Whoosh!
Ed stood on the spot, panting heavily.
What he had just experienced was a terrifying attack of frost! Its intensity was something that nothing else he had ever experienced could compare to.
The environment around him had also been drastically different. A countless number of the large trees had all been frozen into ice sculptures.
The future fragment had unveiled these images to him. These may actually be visions of something that would happen one day in the future.
When that time came, it would really be a scene from hell.
No wonder Ed had been feeling that the weather had become much colder recently. The reality shown in the future fragment was already approaching.
In other words, it would not be long before this horrifically intense winter came.
Ed had never been concerned about time, but now that he had witnessed this vision, he knew that he didn’t have enough time at all.
His current living conditions were not bad at all under normal circumstances. However, it would be a completely different matter if winter truly came. If what he had seen came to pass, he would likely fall seriously ill, which would be a real crisis.
In this case, he now had two priorities.
First, make warm clothes from tiger skin.
Second, make the gold-quality wooden house as soon as possible.
These were both paramount to ensure his survival.
Ed didn’t dare to hesitate for any longer. He made breakfast quickly before wolfing it down. Then, he immediately sprang into action, beginning to prepare the things he would need for today.
He was only a few bricks away from making the wooden house.
