“I see what your problem is. You’re thinking too much.”
I stare at Ashikota with a sideways glance. What does he mean I’m thinking too much?
“Explain.”
“When you’re about to use your powers, it should be about how you feel, not about what you think should happen. You’re probably thinking, ‘I want the moisture in the air to materialize, then I want it to turn into a whip’. For certain people that may work, but for you, those thoughts are clearly a distraction. You said it yourself, the first time you destroyed a demon with your power, it was because you felt the urge to avenge. Unfortunately, for most water magic, after a while, that won’t be enough. Water is both calming and damaging. When you’re in your calm state, you need to access that power, the same way you would if you were angry.”
I let out a frustrated breath. Ashikota has no idea that I’ve never used water magic in my weakened state, and only mustered my greatest magic when I was on a murderous rampage. The only thing I can do is teleport, and that is the most basic form of magic in the heavens.
“I haven’t been very calm lately, so when I am, I don’t know how to use my magic.” I tell him the truth.
“If thinking about your parents and friends is what sends you into a rage, then you must think of someone that is alive. Someone you want to go home to. Because if you keep raging out in that manner, you won’t make it home to anyone.”
I stop and think about Emiya. All this time I’ve been lashing out, thinking it would be the only way to save her, but so far not controlling myself has gotten her killed. It worked when my family and friends were murdered, but against my son, it did nothing. I need to find that balance, where I’m at peace with my anger.
“Okay, I’m ready.”
With my mind finally at peace, I close my eyes, before opening them again, my vision shifting. I could see every molecule as it danced in my field of view. This was it, this is what I was missing.
As Ashikota readies himself to attack, I beat him it, turning clumps of moister into a giant fist of water.
“I’d say you are definitely ready,” he says from his spot on the ground. “The rules adjust slightly for each ability, but I wouldn’t know too much about the others.”
“Thank you Ashikota, I really appreciate the lesson.”
“My friends call me Kota.” He responds.
Before I can say anything else, a piercing scream cuts through the air, causing me and Kota to bolt in its direction. Looks like Training is over.
