My heart thudded in my chest. How was he even here? Kana told me he was dead!
Dan looked at me, and I saw no emotion in his eyes. They were as lifeless as he was supposed to be.
“Dan, how are you alive?!”
He looked at me, head c.o.c.ked to the side as if confused.
“Do I know you?”
The blank stare I received stabbed me. One of my best friends doesn’t even remember me.
“It’s me, Daichi.”
He eyes me again, only to shrug his shoulder and turn away.
“Ikaru, take care of them. I’m following the kid.”
“With pleasure,” he responds, licking his lips as if we were his dinner.
Not even speaking, I go after Dan, Kota not questioning me. This doesn’t feel right. How is he a demon right now?
I shake my head violently as I try to recall my encounter with demons before my memory loss. It would seem that despite the awakening of my memories, there are still bits and pieces missing.
One being, how my human friend became a demon?
“Hey Dan, wait!”
“Who is the loud child following us?” The dark mage said in anger.
“I have no memory of such a person, but he seems to remember me. Shall I get rid of him?”
I find myself frustrated. I expected to reunite with my friends once I reclaimed the thrown to heaven.
“Yes, just give me the location of the relic.”
Robotically, Dan hands over a map that seemed to be sketched out by him.
Torn, I decide that this is not a good time to fight him, as I need those relics to get my powers back, and maybe even more of my memories.
Throwing an orb of water in his direction to distract him, I portal away towards the dark mage’s mana signature.
“Not so fast,” I hear a voice behind me, Dan soon coming into view.
He portal jumped with me.
