From a Child Actor to a World Star - Chapter 1.2
Silence came into the hospital room, and Kayla belatedly came to her senses.
Kayla, who had just become Demian and was walking with Sinclair, recognized reality by seeing the hospital room in front of her.
Dohyun, who started reading books alone, came into Kayla’s eyes.
Oh, it happened again.
It’s like being possessed and thrown into another world.
The unpleasantness that had been completely forgotten until a while ago gnawed at the back of Kayla’s neck.
“I’m going to drink some water.”
Kayla, who hurriedly got up from her seat, walked to the refrigerator under the pretext of getting water.
Kayla, holding a cool glass of water, glanced at the boy.
She felt completely overwhelmed whenever they read lines together.
How could she explain it?
I wanted to quit, but I didn’t want to.
It was a strange feeling.
I feel like she was facing Sinclair and not Dohyun.
She felt like Alice who fell into Wonderland.
What fairytale-like thoughts…. I’m not even Eric.
Kayla shook her head when she recalled her six-year-old son who believed the world in the fairy tale existed.
Kayla, who thought she had to do something, peeked at Dohyun reading a book and opened the refrigerator to peel fruits.
A fruit that a picky child could eat.
She practiced peeling fruits because she wanted to do something for Dohyun. Mainly because she felt guilty, but her skills improved day by day, and now she could cut them in all shapes.
While delicately peeling the apple, the door of the hospital room opened.
Kayla’s eyes were on the door and Dohyun, who was reading, slowly raised his head.
The person who opened the door was an intelligent middle-aged man wearing a white gown and glasses.
Dohyun gave a little puzzled look to his doctor, who suddenly appeared.
“Hello, Dohyun. How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine.”
“Do you take a walk these days?”
“Yes, I go around the park at the front once a day.”
Benjamin smiled at Dohyun’s words.
Two weeks ago, Dohyun, who had a sudden seizure, had a hard time even getting out of bed for nearly a week.
And Dohyun was quickly recovering from the pain that suddenly disappeared, as if it had just came suddenly.
Benjamin talked to Dohyun as he wrote on the other’s chart.
“I’m here today because I have news to tell Dohyun.”
“News?”
“Yes. Dohyun. Do you remember the last time when I told you that there was a patient in Korea with similar symptoms as you?”
Dohyun was a patient with a rare disease that modern medicine had not discovered yet.
Since Dohyun was the only patient in the world with this disease, it had already been six years since he moved to the Withers Rare Disease Center, which was a leading research institute on rare diseases.
And two years ago, he heard from the doctor that there was a patient suspected of having the same disease as Dohyun.
Surprised by the unbelievable news, Dohyun remembered it vividly.
“Yes, I remember.”
“The patient heard about Dohyun and he decided to move to our hospital. I heard he would arrive in a week.”
Dohyun quickly guessed the situation.
“He must be getting worse.”
Benjamin, a little surprised by his childlike judgment of the situation, answered one beat slower.
“Well, yes. It’s hard to take care of him at a hospital in Korea, so he would transfer to our hospital, which has been taking care of Dohyun for a long time.”
He knew this child was brilliant, but he couldn’t help but be surprised whenever he saw him being not like a child.
Benjamin had been in charge of many patients so far, and many of them were at Dohyun’s age.
Therefore, he knew that Dohyun was too mature and smart compared to his peers.
Maybe it’s because of the environment, maybe it’s natural, but…. it just made him feel more sorry for such an outstanding child not being able to go out of the hospital because of this disease.
Benjamin hid his sorrow and said.
“Until now, there has been only Dohyun, but there will be one more case, so the research will be more fruitful.”
Dohyun knew that there would be no sudden solution just because there were one or two people suffering from the same disease.
However, he did not show it on the surface.
Benjamin was the one who tried the most to cure Dohyun’s illness.
“It’s not for me, but because of my desire as a researcher to conquer the unknown.”
Dohyun, who looked at Benjamin without hesitation, roughly accepted it. Benjamin looked happy despite Dohyun’s expression of no expectations.
“Oh, why don’t you meet him when he arrives next week? He’s also Korean like Dohyun.”
Somehow Benjamin seemed expectant, but his suggestion didn’t appeal to him.
Dohyun, who thought about it briefly, expressed his refusal.
We didn’t even share the same hobby, just the same disease. What could we possibly talk about?
Benjamin regretted Dohyun’s rejection, but respected Dohyun’s opinion.
Dohyun, who watched Benjamin leave, was lost in thought.
He’s a person who has the same disease as me….
Could this really be a chance for him to get better?
Dohyun laughed at the thought for a moment.
No way.
Dohyun erased Benjamin’s words from his head.
Rather than expecting and being disappointed for nothing, he knew it would be more comfortable not to expect anything.
