Game In Middle Earth - Chapter 42.
The next day, in the camp of the alliance, just like the day before, the troops began to wake up with the first rays of light, breakfast and prepare for the battle that was coming.
In the Adrin camp, the men were especially motivated, they knew that today they were going to attack, they would win and they could take revenge for the humiliation of the first day. The soldiers did not know the details of why it was so, but they trusted the leaders who had led them to victory so far.
Adrin was happy in his tent, thinking about what was coming, while he watched how motivated his warriors were.
His assistant, who was next to him, approached a little more and spoke to him whispering. – “I see you very happy, my lord. Do you think Ruldrick will have accomplished his task?”
The assistant could not avoid showing his doubts to his master, because he was very nervous and he did not know why. – ‘From the first moment we started this war, I had a bad feeling, and the worst thing is that it only increases’. – Thought.
“Worried Kin?” – Adrin asked while looking at him sideways without losing the smile. The assistant said nothing and simply nodded at him.
“It is not bad to be worried, if we lose the war, we will have lost everything. We would not have anything left. It is a very risky bet”. – For some reason Adrin spoke to him while laughing. This laugh made Kin feel a little scared. As he understood by the words of Adrin, he was playing with the lives and the future of all.
‘That twisted’. – The assistant thought. Of course he would never dare to say it out loud. If Adrin found out about his thoughts, he could punish him. He would not kill him, but Kin could take a beating.
“As far as we could see yesterday, there have been no signs that they were discovered, none of their signals showed yesterday”. – Adrin explained relaxedly. – “Whatever happens, we can only know the result at the end of the day. I just hope, that those three incompetent captains are redeemed today, but a punishment worse than death will await them”. – His last words said them with a very vicious tone and look.
“I hope so too, my lord”. – Kin answered to him, while inclining the head. – ‘I just hope, that you do not take us to death for your stupid ambition’.
…
On the northern flank of the Alliance camp, a young Dunedain approached the palisade along with another older-looking dunedain to observe the battlefield.
The young man was none other than Aldarion, and the one accompanying him was the loyal Dunedain captain, Duihir.
Before reaching his goal, Aldarion got to see the young dwarf captain, Khm. – “Oh Khm! I’m glad to see you. Tell me, is everything ready for battle? Have you arranged everything as I explained it last night?” – Since they got along very well, Aldarion greeted him warmly and he soon peppered him with questions.
“Good morning Aldarion. Yes, everything has been prepared as you told us”. – The young dwarf, who was focused on his task, looked away from what he was doing and responded with a smile.
Aldarion came closer to Khm to speak more comfortably. – “Great, if everything goes well today, Adrin’s troops are going to wish they were not born”.
“I understand what you want to do with oil, we dwarves have also used it throughout history, as I understand it, but do you need that amount? They are the reserves of a whole year!” – He said while scratching his head.
“Oh my naive friend. Once they fall into the trap, Adrin’s troops will go very badly chastised, and those who manage to survive… will have seen such horror that a great fear will grow within their hearts and minds”. – Aldarion explained to the young dwarf.
“That fear will make them useless the moment they fight again… we will slaughter them”. – He added at the end, with a grimmer face and tone of voice.
When he finished speaking, silence was made in the conversation. A drop of cold sweat fell down the young dwarf’s back. Both Khm and Duihir, who was with them, but had not opened their mouths at any time, thought they would not like to be enemies of Aldarion ever.
‘I do not remember Aldarion being so ruthless when he lived in the camp’. – Added to his thoughts Duihir. Due to his age and the trust that the dunedain had with the Aldarion family, he often took care of the two brothers when he was in the camp, but he was impressed to see how different it was from the Aldarion he remembered.
Duihir did not dislike change, this showed that Aldarion was slowly becoming the adult that Aravorn wanted him to be. A leader who cared and took care of his people, and, when necessary… he was ruthless with his enemies.
“Well my good friend, I will not bother you anymore, continue with what you were doing”. – Aldarion, seeing the change of mood in the environment, decided to say goodbye and continue towards the palisade.
“See you later”. – Seeing how his lord was leaving, Duihir reacted and also said goodbye to Khm to follow Aldarion.
for visiting.
The young dwarf captain, who had not yet left his thoughts, did not have time to say anything when they had already left him, so he continued working.
In the palisade, Aldarion saw the movement of enemy troops and he realized that, by their formations, there could be twice as many soldiers as they attacked on the first day. This made, against the logic, that Aldarion was happy inside.
‘Great, today they will suffer and this will bring me closer to fulfilling the final goal’. – He thought to himself, without realizing that a smile was appearing on his face. – “I hope you see it from heaven and enjoy it, God”. – Whispered while looking at the sky. This last, he said in a tone so low that Duihir, who was next to him, did not listen.
