Game Tester In The Apocalypse - Chapter 10
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!”
Marco gritted his teeth as he resisted the weight of two people above him using only one arm. The ax can’t produce enough power to strike the first zombie on top of him, so he hammered the ax on the furthest zombie’s head.
Thud, thud, thud! Splat!
After striking three times, he managed to carve the ax inside the head. The crunching sound when the sharp edge broke through the skull was so clear to him. He tried to ignore it and focused on what’s important.
Now, he only needs to kill the other one and he would be out of danger..
Unfortunately, his body was not listening to him. The ax was currently stuck at the zombie’s head and he doesn’t have the strength to yank it out. After several tries, his hand fell down trembling due to his sudden burst of strength. His meaty fingers felt like noodles because they can’t grip the handle of the ax no matter how hard he tried.
Of course, the zombie wouldn’t wait for him to recover and its jaws slowly inched closer. Not because of its strength, but because of Marco’s exhaustion.
At this moment, he regretted only taking one Kitchen knife when he went outside. If he still had one knife with him, he could at least put up a fight.
Just as he was losing hope, an idea popped inside his head.
‘I can just craft something! I need something light and sharp! Will a sharpened stone do?’
Marco was supposed to head over to the Creation Platform, but he stopped after seeing something from his inventory. He hurriedly took the item with his trembling hand and positioned it directly above his head.
After setting things up, he stopped resisting and allowed the zombie to fall to him. The zombie became excited thinking that it would be able to eat someone, however, its fate was already sealed the moment it fell down.
Shiiik!
Marco adjusted his aim as the zombie began to fall, causing it to directly land on the item. His hand slowly got dirty as dark blood started to seep out from the punctured eye. He felt extremely exhausted, yet a smile couldn’t help forming on his lips.
“He, hehe. Hahaha!” Marco laughed crazily after barely surviving the encounter. After making sure that the zombie really died, he freed his buried hand and used it to wipe the dots of blood that splattered on him earlier.
“I wonder if that looked cool?” he couldn’t help but grin, thinking about the earlier event. “Cool or not, I need to get these things off me.”
While gathering strength to push the bodies away, he heard frantic shouting from the corner of the street, followed by hurried footsteps.
Marco managed to peek by looking at the side and saw a middle-aged office worker getting chased by dozens of zombies. He quickly pulled his head back and further controlled his limited breathing.
Under the veil of overgrown grass and toppled zombies, he remained unseen and the new group left him alone. The grass helped cover his lower body while the zombies hid his upper body.
Marco perked his ears, intently listening to the surroundings. He even had the time to ponder whether these zombies were the same ones from the game.
“So far, I haven’t seen any deviation except for the Creation Platform, which was really identical to Crafting Platform. However, the crafting platform was limited by game design and adheres to a limited recipe system.”
The morning wind howled in the empty lot and gave Marco the illusion that the zombie next to him breathed on his chest.
“Your dead, right?” Marco poked the zombie’s cheeks with his bloodied pen. If this was a horror movie, the zombie would have opened its eyes and stared at him.
“Alright, I guess that’s enough buffer time for them to get far away. I should get going now, so get off me!”
Marco tried to forcefully push the bodies away but he didn’t have enough strength to do so. The last zombie on top of them served as a nail that sealed the three of them. His lower body can’t move while the upper body is exhausted. He had to remove the top zombie before he could get himself free.
He grabbed the ax and used it to pull the top zombie to the side. A satisfied smile formed after seeing the body slowly slide down to his right.
The load above him immediately lightened and he could feel his lungs gather air in a speedy manner.
While heaving and puffing, he heard an unnatural voice coming from the roadside. He raised his head and took a look and found a limping zombie, dragging its feet towards him.
On the thigh of the zombie, sharp jagged bones protrude to the side while the thigh itself bent in a strange way.
“Oh no, oh no.” Marco tensed up and continued shoving the dead zombie to the side. “Come on! Get off me!!!”
Shulala.
After pushing the body to the side, he hurriedly crawled backward and forced himself to stand up.
Holding the already bloodied pen in front of him, he decided whether to head for the stone ax or turn around and escape. He focused on the limping zombie, calculating its movement speed.
‘I can reach the stone ax before it got to me. With its speed, I can kite it out easily!’
After having everything figured, he prepared himself to dash forward and grab the stone ax when a silhouette appeared from the side.
A slim figure with long ponytailed hair hammered the zombie’s face using a red umbrella. The attack dealt no damage at all and only delayed its movement.
Seeing that another target appeared by its side, the zombie became excited and lunged forward.
“Kyaah!” the woman panicked and raised the umbrella instinctively for self-defense. Luckily, the umbrella’s end happened to align with the zombie’s lunge and entered its mouth.
The more excited the zombie became of the prey in front of it, the much deeper the umbrella’s end entered its throat. The zombie started choking yet continued biting the umbrella’s end.
“Jessica?”
Marco doubted whether his eyes were tricking him. It only took him a few seconds before he realized he was not visualizing things and quickly ran to help her.
