Gamemaster’s System - Chapter 7 To Understand Nothing 007
Adrian hadn’t heard the name before, and decided that he should have a friend look up his name. He gave some thought on how he should help.
He sighed. Was everything going to be like this, where he can’t expect for anything to just play out like he was the protagonist of a novel, and have to live in this crappy world? There’s a possibility, sure, but everything feels uncertain.
Adrian felt like he had enough, but he knew he couldn’t quit just because he was tired. The mental strain he was getting from the last year and managing the community was quite the wildfire, and when the smoke is blown in the wind, headaches from breathing in the air occur everywhere.
“Darke, let me tell you something. This world, my own, needs people that can keep those in power from falling, you understand? If there’s nobody to lead, or there’s not enough leadership, then everything will fall apart. I will make sure you live comfortably here if you work for me. Do you want to take on keeping everyone invested, and make sure there’s plenty of mystery? I’ll add some NPC’s to fit the occasion, of course.”
Darke looked deep in thought, before asking, “can you restate what you are getting at? I don’t quite grasp what your saying.”
“I’m saying would you like to be an NPC. However, you will not be bound to do something you don’t like. I want you to keep some of the work load off me for a bit while I clear my head every once in a while.”
An enlightened countenance appears, but then it turned to a complex expression. They both waited for what felt like hours, Darke weighing possible pros and cons, and uncertain things.
“I… need to think upon this decision further. Show me what this world’s like and I may consider joining. If this isn’t what I want to do, you can delete me or whatever you want.”
Instead of the weight that Adrian thought would be lifted, it felt like his burdens increased, practically crushing him. For once, he felt like he actually couldn’t breathe, something that felt so simple before now difficult.
He couldn’t bare it, he thought.
[ Host… Host! Please calm down! Blood pressure slowing, breathing decreased, Host is in critical condition!
[ Deploying emergency help… Mental Stability Pill configuration complete! Spending 1,000,000 SP… Saving Host! ]
Despite these messages, Adrian felt like he wasn’t there anymore, as if he was in a different plane of existence. He was mentally shut from the world around him and given a void that took all his worries away…
The pill was taken in less than a few seconds, but for the dear System, it felt like infinite. The System, despite it’s computer-like attitude and abilities, held it’s breath. If the Host died, then it would die too.
There was a long pause. Darke was completely aware of the mental breakdown happening to the man in front of him. All he knew was that Adrian had been taken by surprise from his statement.
As if a miracle, Adrian then started talking, “w-well, I guess I’ll have- erm- P-Pride take you to explore the world.” The pill was starting to take effect now.
Darke just slowly nodded, and then, they disappeared from the white, ethereal void.
. . .
“I don’t understand, why would he decline my offer? He is here and has nowhere to go, why would he not want to?” Adrian was confused for a long time. Darke had left a long while ago, and Adrian was thinking about how he didn’t understand.
Adrian didn’t, of course, understand why people didn’t do things that were necessary. If you saw a way out, why not reach for it? Adrian was a simpleton, find something cool? Find if it had a use. He didn’t go outside often and he never replied in the chat whenever he would casually play games.
Adrian, as if he weren’t shaken from all his burdens in the first place, logged in as Mirror and met up with Pool and Loop. He decided that he was going to distract himself by focusing on a single thing at a time.
