Game’s Dogma - Chapter 364: Soaring Fire Dragon
Danting, using his spatial teleportation array, was the first to arrive in support, emerging behind the beastmen chief almost instantly.
“Graa!” The beastmen chief was in a different league than its subordinates. It turned its seemingly bulky body and swung its mace in an arc at Danting.
“This guy’s crazy!” screamed Danting as he conjured another array in his left hand. An earthy formation took shape beneath him, and chunks of rocks materialised to cover him all over—Array of Sentient Earth.
The beastman smacked the sphere of rocks and sent it, with Danting inside, flying off into the distance. Two shots rang from Windstrider’s guns. Using Dual Magazine, he fired two Repelling Shots at the tall beastman. It merely glanced at the incoming shots and took the full brunt of them without budging at all.
“Damn!” Windstrider leapt back as a mace smashed where he stood moments ago. “It nullifies control effects!”
“Got it.” Idyllic Poet spun her staff with her slim hands, summoning several spheres behind her; Soaring Suns, the strongest single-target skill of the Elementalist class!
The beastmen chief felt a significant threat from her. It ignored Windstrider, who was pestering him like a fly, and strode towards Idyllic Poet instead. Using his mystical footwork, Greenstone reached her before the beastmen chief and protected her.
A cleric defending a mage? The beastmen chief couldn’t comprehend such foolishness and swung its mace downwards.
“Hah!” A voice rang out.
Drako Yau broke out from the cloud of dust and shot a blue beam. It flashed past everyone and hammered into the beastmen chief’s armpit. What looked like an ice arrow remained embedded, slowly freezing the surrounding area around the armpit.
“Go! Take it out!” Another shout reached them from the cloud of dust together with dragon howls. A dragon aura appeared from the dust and bit the beastmen chief, yet it lacked the strength to pull the bulky beastman. Still, the dragon aura continued to shrink in length, dragging Drako Yau towards the enemy like Spiderman, an urban myth among the Western Cities.
Idyllic Poet didn’t let the opportunity slide. She charged up Soaring Suns to its maximum, with five golden suns levitating behind her; five suns meant five times the damage. Windstrider’s guns radiated a purple glow as he also took the chance to charge Mana Shot.
A series of bombardments followed. They fired Soaring Suns and Mana Shot simultaneously, the projectiles battering the beastmen chief. Drako Yau also zoomed towards the beastmen chief using Dragon Capturing Hand. The blue part of his spear was missing, and the sapphire spear with flowing flames in his hand now turned crimson.
Drako Yau stabbed the spear into the beastmen chief’s chest. The stab seemed to have frozen time; the beastmen chief, still struggling to break free from the ice spreading across its body, stiffened.
The next moment, a three-metre-wide fire dragon roared and tore through its torso. The dragon roared proudly, its domineering aura stunning everyone. It smashed heavily into the mountain before vanishing.
“Ding!”
“You have cleared Beastmen Territory (Easy). Obtained title: Territorial Explorer.”
“New team record for clearing Beastmen Territory (Easy). Do you wish to make your name public?”
Everyone was left speechless. The dungeon’s final boss died just like that?
Vitality faded from the beastmen chief’s eyes like a tidal wave as it slumped lifelessly to the ground, stirring up a gush of dust. Drako Yau waved his hand, and the blue arrow lodged underneath the corpse’s armpit returned to him. It joined the red spear’s end and combined into one weapon.
“Why are you so surprised?” Drako Yau asked Idyllic Poet and Danting, both seemingly struck by disbelief. “This is only Easy mode. Didn’t you see that the beastmen chief was just a Level 40 rare boss? All of us are over Level 40, so we have the level advantage.
“Also, Idyllic Poet’s fire attacks are comparable to using legendary weapons with the Phoenix Ring. Strider’s Divine Zero-Angle Gun is one of the best Level 35 epic weapons, and my spear is a legendary weapon. With the three of us using our Level 40 ultimate skill, it’s only natural we killed it instantly.”
Danting’s eyes were shining as he asked, “Boss! That final move’s way too cool! What was that fire dragon thing? Gosh, why don’t I have such cool skills too!”
“It’s my Level 40 fire elemental skill, Soaring Fire Dragon, a single-target skill with many restrictions. It can only be used at close range and deals two hundred per cent fire elemental damage to the enemy. Once it lands, it’ll shoot a dragon at enemies behind the target, dealing one hundred and fifty per cent damage. It’s a single-target skill that can do a bit of splash damage when used effectively.”
“What about the Level 40 ice skill?” asked Idyllic Poet, apparently interested in the topic as well. Two hundred per cent fire elemental damage! That’s far better than my Volcanic Eruption! A hidden class indeed.
Drako Yau saw no point in hiding his skills from his companions. Knowing each other’s skills was vital to functioning well as a team, but it didn’t hurt to play mysterious once.
“You’ll know soon enough,” he laughed and said.
Soaring Fire Dragon’s damage potential was over the roof, but it wasn’t without its restrictions either. Most skills in the game belonged to two categories: lock-on skills and direction-specific skills. However, Soaring Fire Dragon belonged to neither; it was closer to being a basic attack. Its effects activated by landing a basic after casting the skill, yet that was easier said than done, especially when fighting against other elites.
Taking Drako Yau’s fight with Zeus as an example, neither landed more than several attacks on the enemy. He couldn’t even reach Hawk during the war. As such, the restriction was actually harsher than it seemed.
Still, Drako Yau was satisfied with Soaring Fire Dragon. At the very least, he didn’t have to intentionally incorporate it into his combat style thanks to its activation mechanism. It suited his spearmanship well as he was used to fighting with “basic attacks”. He’d have to train on targeting the subsequent fire dragon if he had to nitpick about it, but that was a matter for later.
