Gaming Sword Magician - Chapter 244
As he explained himself, the little bit of animosity in Whittaker’s heart seemingly disappeared. Peter Chuck has copied his original magic, after all, but he didn’t hold him responsible as it was partially Whittaker’s own fault for not modifying the Weapon’s Fortress spell page in his Frost spellbook.
“Okay, I get it, your bet worked but why did you take such a great risk? There was barely any time left before I completed my test. And why did you expose the limitations about your spellbook to me?” Whittaker said. “Wouldn’t you be at a great disadvantage if we are to fight in a tournament?”
Whittaker still pondered about why Peter would bet on him, and why he would expose the weakness of his unique spellbook. It made more sense to him to think that it wasn’t just a simple bet, but a choice made because of confidence. However, he still couldn’t understand why Peter would expose the limitations of his spellbook to him.
“Let’s sit at the sides first. You know there are a lot of students who idolize you.”
Just like Peter Chuck said, Whittaker was being stared at by a lot of boys and girls older and younger than himself.
“He’s so cool!”
“He is so handsome he can give Dean Frankenstein a reason to worry.”
“The one standing beside him is also handsome. Not just that, he is the son of Duke Williams, but he is also just as talented as Whittaker and among the few who defeated all 100 puppets.”
“Please Whittaker. Look at me!”
“Kiyaa, he looked at me.”
So embarrassing. Whittaker thought. His cheeks turned red.
Shadow’s eyes blinked innocently. He shared the same thoughts as Whittaker.
“Girls these days are just like that,” Shadow said.
“Yeah, I kinda have learned to ignore them,” Whittaker said to Shadow before he looked at Peter. “For now, let’s sit down.”
They sat at an uncrowded spot. Just then, Peter gave a mischievous smile and replied confidently. “Well, I happened to eavesdrop on your conversation and found out that you were Zachary’s inheritor. Besides, you were the only D-rank mage on the testing field whose spell I was able to copy. And, I want to befriend you and group up with you for the next examination.”
Peter’s words were reasonable enough to curb Whittaker’s suspicion. But it was damaging to his pride. True, he had recently self-created this spell and haven’t had the time to add magical symbols to complicate the spell structure, but did Peter really have to point that out again and again?
“I will make sure to complicate the spell structure of my self-created spells,” Whittaker muttered.
“….”
“….”
Meanwhile, Ruth and Yato stared at Peter with the same thought in their mind. The power of status even works in the Royal Frost Fall Academy. They thought that because Peter knew about what’s going to happen in the next examination.
“You know about the details of the next exams?” Shadow asked. Although Shadow was Duke William’s child, he wasn’t welcomed or loved by his father nor does he utilizes the authority of his father, and thus, he didn’t know anything about the next examination.
Peter widened his smile and revealed a smile. Then, he leaned closer to them and whispered,
“Who am I? I am the son of a duke. Sir Lyon favors royals and nobles unconditionally. Especially those with higher status. I just needed to ask and he exposed a few details of the examinations to me. Though I hope you guys can keep it a secret for me. But if tell someone, don’t tell them that I told you guys about this.”
“Okay, we promise not to rat you out to the deans and headmaster.” They nodded their head. Then, Shadow curiously asked: “What is the next test about?”
“I don’t know much about it. But Sir Lyon said that it is heavily focused on team play and that it will be dangerous, almost life-threatening as we would be fighting tons of magical beasts. So who wanna team up? I came fully prepared and got some cool spells that can save our lives in different situations.”
Peter had prepared various types of spells for the final examination. His arsenal also contained a lot of potions and talisman. As a Duke’s son, the one thing he didn’t lack was money, and he purchased a lot of things to supplement his weakness.
Yato scrutinized him. Peter was unlike other nobles. The nobles and royals attending this academy would usually stare at Yato with disdain because he was a half-noble. Or ask him weird questions. But Peter didn’t do either. Moreover, he wasn’t offended by his presence. Yato knew that this was a great chance.
“Count me in!” Yato said before wrapping his hands around Ruth. “He will be also joining us!”
Ruth nudged Yato in the ribs with his elbow.
“Ah, why? Do you not wanna join?”
“Stop doing that. My necks hurts?” Ruth said.
In reply, Yato grinned; “My bad, my bad.”
“I gladly accept you both as a party member,” Peter said to them. Then, he asked the others, “What about you two? Have you made your decision? There is only a little bit of time left before the next exam begins.”
Three of the five top scorers among the newly enlisted students have created a party. Naturally, if Whittaker and Shadow join them then it would truly be a party made up of prodigies.
“A party of prodigies. This idea doesn’t sound bad at all. I will join.” Whittaker also accepted Peter’s invitation.
Shadow didn’t want to be left alone, and he also joined the party. However, he had a condition.
“The party leader must be the most capable one among us.”
“I don’t mind if it’s you. But I don’t know about them.” Peter was pretty cool with Shadow becoming the team leader.
“Am not qualified,” Yato said. He didn’t bother comparing himself with a hardworking monster like Shadow and the naturally gifted Whittaker.
“Same,” Ruth added.
“I also have no problems with Shadow being our leader. But I would like some freedom.”
“No problem.”
“Then, it’s decided.”
Shadow was the party leader and the main tank. Whittaker, Peter, Ruth, and Peter were the damage dealers.
“Although this party seems imbalanced in various ways, this party has its own perks. We would be killing the monster at an incredible speed.”
They nodded, understanding the advantages of a four mage and one tank party.
A while later, the examiners finished testing the newly enlisted students.
